Installing the English (United States) language
I recently got my Desire HD, and it came pre-installed with Deutsch, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, each in a (Spain) or (Portugal) flavor. Is there some way of getting an English (United States) or English (United Kingdom) on it? Removing the other languages as well, would be nice.

Some background: My HTC Desire HD has several issues. **The first issue** being that I can not connect to it using a USB cable. So I found that I can tell ADB to work over wifi and I was using this method for some time. I am using VISIONary to temproot the device, then I run a terminal on the device and execute: $ su #setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555 #stop adbd #start adbd I then use netcfg to find my device's IP and finally on my pc I use adb connect {device IP}:5555 I am then able to run on my pc adb shell and use this shell to do the following: cd /etc echo 127.0.0.1 localhost >hosts echo {my pc's IP} some.dnsname.com >>hosts This is when **the second issue** comes into play: once in a while (seems related to killing and clearing cache of an app that uses some.dnsname.com - but not always) the hosts file just reverts to an empty file :( Not having the deep knowledge to handle those problems (yet) I just "learned to live with them"... A few moments ago, when I went through this process for for maybe the 30th time or so, A **new issue** decided to make my day more interesting. I tried to modify (overwrite) the hosts file and I get the following message: cannot create hosts: read-only file system I tried to read some about it and it seems I need to remount the system in read/write mode. running mount | grep system returns /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system ext3 ro,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 none /system/xbin tmpfs rw,relatime,gid=10132 0 0 **I need help with**: 1) Making my system read write again (what mount/remount command do I need to run?) 2) Understanding what could have caused this new issue. 3) Any ideas on how I can handle the two background issues is also most welcome. thank you for reading...

I know ADB allows for screenshots, but is there a way to *stream* the screen output to my PC's display? Not necessarily at 20+ fps, just a couple frames per second will do.

Just I find that 7 screens is excessive for my needs, and I heard I can get a decent performance / battery boost from having less screens. So is there a way to reduce the number of screens without using a custom launcher (which I think gets rid of HTC sense?) Currently I just have my two side screens blank, but that looks off when you zoom out, however I have found that even that has produced a noticeable improvement on my Desire HD Thanks!

I want to move the SD card to another phone, and have this one without an SD card. I know that it works without an SDcard, but how? Do I need to move the /data partition somehow? How do I do that? Edit: It was the CM build I used, which was aceopt. The *opt* part means that it uses the SD card as internal storage. So I need another build if I want to take the card out. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a non *opt* version of CM 13 for this device, so I'll have to go with 12.

Rejecting the call is even worse, as the ringtone continues indefinitely and the phone blocks all input. There is a support thread about this with other people having the same problem. The solution for re-syncing all Facebook contacts didn't work for me. Has anyone here had the same problem and knows how to fix it?

I own an HTC Desire HD and it currently has the IceColdSandwich custom rom on it. I also own a usb OTG adapter and a D-Link USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet adapter DUB-E100. What I want to achieve is to connect my phone on a Cisco Router with that "cable sequence"(Phone -> USB OTG adapter -> USBtoETHERNET dub-e100 -> ethernet cable -> Router) and be able to sustain a telnet connection between the two in order to give network configuration. In order for this to work I definitely need to enable the USB host mode on my device through kernel. Let's say I can get my kernel to work do I need the usbnet driver with my combined hardware for the dub-e100 to work? or maybe there is really no way for this to be done? any ideas on alternative ways to do this? -edit- There are many reasons why one would want to do this. For example, testing an ethernet port in an office building without having to lug around a laptop. Another, be able to configure a router that does not have wireless, or one that you can't access the wireless on (maybe you butterfingered the encryption key on the AP) -edit- by Izzy

I've recently got the new HTC Desire HD, which has a poor battery to start with (1230 mAh), but in the last two weeks I've had several nights waking up with a dead battery. The first few nights, I suspect that wifi was still running and by default the radio didn't go to sleep when it's idle (changed that). I reduced syncing frequencies for most services to once a day, so that can hardly be the problem. When looking at the battery usage reports, it's mostly the huge screen draining the battery, but that's turned off at night. Last night I turned off any data connection and went to bed with 90% battery and woke up with a dead one. So what on earth is crashing my battery so quickly? Does anyone have any suggestions other than the no-brainers mentioned here.

My girlfriend plugged her phone in to charge and it started vibrating, and never stopped. The only way to stop it is to power off the phone, and take the battery out. Even if the phone is off, it still vibrates if the battery is in. She recently installed the eBay application, and tried removing that but nothing. Running standard HTC/Telus (Alberta, Canada) 2.2.1. Phone has not been rooted or anything else. Phone is only 3 weeks old. I have same phone, with no problems. How do we make it stop? **Part 2:** Sometimes, after removing and replacing the battery it stops. But you just have to push on the back in a spot or two and it cranks up again. Seems like a hardware problem that we can't fix. Will probably end up going back to the Telus store to see what they say, and will most likely have to warranty it. Still open to ideas though. **Part 3:** We can adjust the volume up and down, and it will go all the way up to full volume, make the little 'bing' noise to let you know the volume is turned up, all while still vibrating. Going up/down, changing the ring mode in settings, changing vibration settings in keyboard and other areas have no effect.

Can I override the HTC Sense "slide down to answer / slide up to decline" screen locker?
I can't be the only one who has this problem: my touchscreen reacts to the cotton of my jeans. I carry my DHD upside down in my pocket, and on an incoming call, when I drag it out of my pocket, it interacts with the jeans tissue and slides the bar up, thus declining the call. I tried such apps as "Easy answer button," "Advanced telephone," "Full screen caller ID," but they simply overlap what's already on the screen, and while they do work (i.e., I press instead of swiping), either the result is very ugly, or the caller ID is partially invisible — not to mention I would like to swipe left/right (as in vanilla Android), rather than just press, as this is also not jeans-proof.

Than I have installed a custom rom to my HTC and added my Google account but my contacts are lost. Where should be those contacts? Where did it synced? Do you have any idea? Update: The rom I have installed is CyanogenMod and I have enabled sync and contacts to display is set to all. The problem is I can't see my contacts in gmail. Before I install new rom I have confirmed in contacts application of HTC that all my contacts synced with my Google account.

I have HTC Desire HD and installed an official update of the system: Android 2.3.5, HTC Sense 3.0, system 3.12.405.1. After the update my phone runs very slowly and reboots every 2 minutes. If I remove the memory card it runs well. If I change the memory card to another empty one then everything is also good. But I have a lot of apps and other data on that card and I don't want to format it. I looked at a log, there are a lot of mistakes like this: W/ResourceType(13907): Failure getting entry for 0x7f0200df (t=1 e=223) in package 0 (error -2147483647) Link to the beginning of the log (250kb): http://pastebin.com/P3zq0k5x Full log (3.3Mb, phone rebooted several times while writting this log) is here: http://file.karelia.ru/9kjwqz/ I don't understand anything in programming or Android. Can you help me? Maybe I should just remove one of the apps and problem would be solved?

Been given a Desire HD that seems to have had a bad Radio Flash I have spent perhaps 50 hours on this problem as follows: Screen is always black whatever I do (unless /sbin/recovery - see below) **Power on:** 3 Vibrates and Orange light (flashing) and in Windows Devices shows: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM **Power on + Volume up:** same as above **Power on + Volume Down:** 5 vibrates and Green light and in Windows Devices shows: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM **Connect device power lead and don't turn on:** One Vibrate Shows in Device Manager as Android USD Devices -> "My HTC" (installed OK) Also shows an "HTC DIAG" device with question mark (can install this with software from the web) F: drive comes up but cannot be accessed can be seen in ADB devices as: HTCxxxxxxxxxxxxx RECOVERY **fastboot devices** *NO* fastboot... (not seen whatever I do) **adb shell** At this stage I cannot adb shell into the device as the "sh" is missing, so I adb push /system/bin and/system/lib over to the Desire HD (from another Droid) and can then adb shell to a root ('#') prompt. I seem to be in a ramdisk, with no changes saved across reboots (not persistent) - *but* I do have write access to /dev/block/mmcblk0 partitions!! **NO SDcard mounted** The sd card is not mounted and seems not be recognized due to the faulty (radio?) flash.androidboot.cid is totally *corrupt* (crappy strange characters) if the kernel boots why doesn't the screen come up??? Also: **dmesg** msmfb_probe() installing 480 x 800 panel mdp_lcdc_probe: initialized (probably probing for the display???) ...some stuff.... err: Device config mismatch is this where the screen fails? also **#reboot** Issuing reboot from adb root shell # and the phone vibrates continuously and green led flashes!! **My only hope of recovery it seems is:** 1) Reflash all mmcblk partitions with stock from adb (but I don't have the images). 2) Somehow rebuild the bootloader so I can get some life on a reboot/power on. 3) Flash a radio.img via adb (I don't have any fastboot access). And perhaps this will 'repair'the device. 4) Make PD98IMG.ZIP (or whatever) persistent in storage to allow me to access it on an /sbin/recovery reboot (somehow get it into /data which at the moment isn't persistent across reboots). 5) "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" somehow from adb (I don't have fastboot) so that an /sbin/recovery can retrieve the PD98IMG.ZIP from the sdcard and reinstall stock. Any help appreciated. I really believe it can be done!

First, I'd like to make myself look less a madman than I may have appeared to be. I wanted to have a bootable USB stick with me at all times, but it's less convenient because it's an extra object and it's easier to lose, forget etc. Then I thought, I have an Android phone, and it has a micro SD in it; perfect. Not all PC's can boot off a card reader, but the phone itself **is** a card reader when attached as a disk drive. Or at least so I thought. Turns out that my netbook BIOS (tested on Asus eeePC) refuses to see it as an external harddrive; it only recognizes it as a generic USB device and doesn't offer an option to boot from it. The device has a name "Android phone" or smth, so it seems to me that it doesn't work as a "pure" card reader, and instead still manifests itself as a phone. Can it be somehow overridden?
