I have cooked up a JumpCloud Command to automate the configuration of desktop backgrounds. I can get the command to run on a test system (Monterey, 12.4) via Shell if I approve a dialog asking for permission. When I execute via JumpCloud, I get:
59:74: execution error: Not authorized to send Apple events to System Events. (-1743)
The command itself: ``` target_user=$(w | awk '$2 == "console"{print $1}') export target_user sudo -u $target_user osascript Security & Privacy > Privacy > Automation" but there are no apps listed under "Automation." Under "Full Disk Access" there's a check for "jumpcloud-agent" ... perhaps I can extend that somehow?

I have a 2018 MacBook Air running the latest non-beta Catalina (10.15.3 as of this writing). For as long as I can remember, I have used Safari’s bookmark syncing via iCloud, and it has worked very well. One might even say flawlessly. Last weekend I decided that I had accumulated too many bookmarks that I was never going to use which was making it hard to find what I wanted, so I decided to “clean house” — I exported my bookmarks from Safari and deleted _everything_ except _one folder_ named “Forums” which I use often. I logged in to my Macs and iOS devices to make sure that they all had the same one folder left. I think I might have had to manually delete them again on one or two devices, honestly I don’t remember because I didn’t realize this was going to become A Thing. So now have: - one MacBook Air running Catalina - one Mac Mini running Mojave - one Mac Mini running High Sierra - one iPad - one iPhone The bookmarks on the MacBook Air are working fine locally. However, everything else is broken. Changes made on other devices will sync to other devices, but do _NOT_ sync to the MacBook Air. All of the other devices (except the Air) keep getting duplicates of that “Forums” folder. I just deleted about a dozen of them. Even as I was deleting them, more appeared. I tried deleting a bookmark on one of the non-MacBook Airs, and not only did it not sync to the Air, but more duplicates re-appeared. Once the duplicates stopped happening, future changes sync between all of the devices _except the Air_ seem to happen almost simultaneously, even for the Mac mini which is co-located across the USA. I logged out of iCloud completely on the MacBook Air. I rebooted my MacBook Air. I logged back in to iCloud on the MacBook Air. The exact same problem is happening. The MBAir is not getting changes from other Macs, even though it is on the same Wi-Fi network with several other devices which are syncing perfectly well. Making changes on the MBAir causes more duplicates on the other devices. At this point it seems like this must be a Catalina issue. Then I remembered my 2015 MacBook was running Catalina too, so I booted it up. It is syncing just like all of the other non-MBAir devices. So it’s not Catalina. It’s something about Catalina on _this_ account. I tried logging into iCloud.com to see if I could delete my Safari bookmarks from there (“The truth is in the cloud”) but there is no option to do that. The only option is to restore deleted bookmarks from the previous 30 days. I am well-and-truly out of ideas. I guess I could create another local user account on my MBAir and log in to my iCloud account there, but I’m not sure what that would really accomplish anything meaningful. If it worked—then what would I do next? Any ideas welcomed and appreciated. --- ***Edited to add:*** Not sure if this is important or related, but I'm also having problems with the Home.app on my MacBook Air not syncing properly with other HomeKit devices. I do not have any outgoing firewall software installed like Little Snitch or Trip Mode. --- ***Edit 2:*** I did a Safe Boot to eliminate any potential software issues with iCloud, and it had no effect. --- ***Edit 3:*** Finding no good answers for this anywhere, I logged in to my backup Administrator account, deleted my regular account, and then re-created it. Safari bookmarks are syncing again. I did find some messages in the Console log about the SafariBookmarksSyncAgent but googling the error message and/or SafariBookmarksSyncAgent itself did not turn up any helpful information.

I like to read PDFs on iPad (manuals, articles etc.). For some reason, unlike on macOS Preview, the thumbnail side is shown permanently. This seems to me a SERIOUS design flaw: it deprives the user of control over the presentation, wastes precious screen space, and, most importantly, RANDOMLY – which I think is the worst quality of a design – reduces focus without ANY gain (the thumbnails could show up by tipping the screen, just as all other additional controls are and/or show up when scrolling). Did I do something wrong or is there really no way to hide it?

I'm trying to connect my Mac Pro tower (2020) to my network using ethernet but am experiencing problems if use my Netgear GS105 switch, this setup results in the MacPro saying "Cable connected but self-assigned IP". I've renewed DHCP leases, changed all sorts of settings including on my router but nothing works, I have also validated that this setup does work fine with every other computer (including a MacPro Trashcan) and if I connect the MacPro Cheese-grater directly to the router it works so to recap: This does *not* work: [Router]----[Switch]----[MacPro2020] This does work: [Router]----[Switch]----[MacPro Trashcan] These also work: [Router]----[MacPro2020] [Router]----[MacPro2020] I've also tried different cables in place of both and and it doesn't improve the situation, every possible combo works except if I have the MacPro 2020 Tower plugged in via the Netgear switch. Is there some issue with unmanaged switches and MacPro 2020 Towers?

The installation was based on the answer from [Drivers not working on Windows 10 installed (CLI process) on external SSD running on MacBook Air 2018](https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/384355/drivers-not-working-on-windows-10-installed-cli-process-on-external-ssd-runnin/384447#384447) . However, the exact procedure, including additional steps taken, is documented in a secret gist on GitHub. I have tried multiple different cables and cases. I am using an Imac18,3. I have tried plugging the SATA case into the mac via USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C. All of these cables should allow data transfer. The Cable that it works with is a USB-A to SATA cable. The device crashes when plugging the drive in from boot. (Only if booting from that drive though) Does anyone know why this happens? Is there a way to fix it?

Why is it different from what's displayed on iOS.

This apple script seems to be doing exactly what I wanted it to do, (save screenshots both to a file location and to the clipboard) but I can't for the life of me figure out how to change this script to point at a different folder (currently it is saving to the Desktop) I'm not very familiar with Automator or AppleScript and haven't been able to pin down where that is being set so that I can change it This line looks relevant: set thePathFilename to POSIX path of (path to desktop folder as string) & theFilename And this is the full script on run {input, parameters} -- # Screen Shot to Clipboard and File -- # Clear the clipboard so the 'repeat until isReady ...' loop works properly. set the clipboard to "" -- # Copy picture of selected area to the clipboard, press: ⌃⇧⌘4 -- # Note that on my system I need to keystroke '$' instead of '4'. -- # I assume this is because the 'shift' key is being pressed. tell application "System Events" keystroke "$" using {control down, shift down, command down} end tell -- # Wait while user makes the selection and releases the mouse or times out. -- # Note that the time out also acts as an escape key press of sorts. In other -- # words, if the user actually presses the escape key it has no effect on this -- # script like it would if pressing the normal shortcut outside of the script. -- # -- # As coded, the time out is 5 seconds. Adjust 'or i is greater than 10' and or -- # 'delay 0.5' as appropriate for your needs to set a different length time out. -- # This means, as is, you have 5 seconds to select the area of the screen you -- # want to capture and let go of the mouse button, otherwise it times out. set i to 0 set isReady to false repeat until isReady or i is greater than 10 delay 0.5 set i to i + 1 set cbInfo to (clipboard info) as string if cbInfo contains "class PNGf" then set isReady to true end if end repeat if not isReady then -- # User either pressed the Esc key or timed out waiting. return -- # Exit the script without further processing. end if -- # Build out the screen shot path filename so its convention is of -- # the default behavior when saving a screen shot to the Desktop. set theDateTimeNow to (do shell script "date \"+%Y-%m-%d at %l.%M.%S %p\"") set theFilename to "Screen Shot " & theDateTimeNow & ".png" set thePathFilename to POSIX path of (path to desktop folder as string) & theFilename -- # Retrieve the PNG data from the clipboard and write it to a disk file. set pngData to the clipboard as «class PNGf» delay 0.5 try set fileNumber to open for access thePathFilename with write permission write pngData to fileNumber close access fileNumber on error eStr number eNum try close access fileNumber end try activate display dialog eStr & " number " & eNum buttons {"OK"} default button 1 with title "File I/O Error..." with icon caution end try -- # Convert the POSIX path filename to an alias. set thePathFilename to POSIX file thePathFilename as alias -- # Hide the file extension as is the default. tell application "Finder" try set extension hidden of thePathFilename to true end try end tell Which I found here: Copy screenshot to clipboard in addition to saving the file

Which one is supposed to be faster?
