Frequently, and for no apparent reason, my Macbook Pro 15,1 (15-inch, 2019) with macOS 10.14.6 freezes, then hard-crashes during video chats (hangouts, slack, FaceTime). I have not seen this problem during regular video playback (Youtube, VLC). The error report is attached at the bottom. I had hoped it has to do with integrated graphics switching, but turning it off didn't prevent it from happening. Can someone parse some useful info from this crash report? https://pastebin.com/raw/9zTnntxv (too large to paste here, unfortunately).

Google Hangouts on Mac Catalina
I know that 32-bit apps will not work on MacOS Catalina. Unfortunately, I use Hangouts very often and the plugin requires the use of a 32-bit app. As far as you know, is there the possibility to make Hangouts work on Catalina? Thank you so much in advance.

How do I use Messages with Google Hangouts on MacOS Mojave?
After upgrading to MacOS Mojave, Messages no longer allows me to sign in to Jabber / Google Talk. Previously, if the Jabber account was offline, it offered a dropdown to sign back in. Now, that dropdown appears to be gone.

Whenever I receive a call or a text message in Google Hangouts, the notification appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, but there is never any audio to accompany the notification (even when the Hangouts-extension window is the active window). My computer would previously ring for calls and play "dings" for messages. I have no idea what happened to stop this from occurring. I've ensured that my system volume is at the maximum setting and that audio is enabled in the settings of the Hangouts extension, as you can see in this screenshot: I've also ensured that "Play sound for notifications" is checked at System Preferences → Notifications → Google Chrome. I've tried: - Restarting computer - Uninstalling and reinstalling the Hangouts extension from the Chrome Web Store - Clearing cookies/cache in Chrome - Logging out of my Google account and logging back in - Changing *"Autoplay policy"* to *"No user gesture is required."* at chrome://flags ---------- OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6. Google Chrome version 66.0.3359.170 (64-bit). Google Hangouts version 2018.123.418.2. ----------

Missed keyboard inputs in Slack and Bear but not in other apps

My late-2013 13" MacBook Pro recently started missing some keyboard inputs in _some_ applications, particularly [Slack](https://slack.com) and [Bear](http://www.bear-writer.com) , and especially (but not only) when I'm in a Google Hangout video call. Hangout typically hogs the CPU when running in Safari and typing on Slack results in missing characters (not just delayed!). Interestingly, typing in Sublime Text always works fine. 1. What makes Slack and Bear more likely to miss inputs when the CPU is overloaded? Slack is running on the notably slow framework Electron but I don't believe Bear is. 2. Is anybody else noticing this behavior? 3. My Mac is up to date and uses an SSD and 16GB of RAM, but it's also 5 years old. Would a brand new MacBook 12" run Hangout and Slack more efficiently?

I am trying to launch a Google Chrome extension in AppleScript or Terminal. By "launch," I mean replicate the act of clicking on the extension icon found in Chrome's toolbar. The Chrome extension in question is Google Hangouts. Clicking on the extension icon creates a new pseudo-window in Chrome that houses the Hangouts dialer. ---------- Here is what I've considered: - I uncovered the physical location of this extension on my hard drive: - /Users/Me/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Extensions/ nckgahadagoaajjgafhacjanaoiihapd/2018.123.418.2_0 - However, I didn't find anything of significance. - I entered chrome-extension://nckgahadagoaajjgafhacjanaoiihapd/ in Chrome's address bar, which led to a *"Your file was not found"* message. - I do not know of a way to associate a keyboard-shortcut with the Hangouts extension. The Options item in the context menu of the Hangouts extension is not selectable (i.e., it is greyed out). - The Hangouts extension has a second shortcut, found in the systemwide, top menu bar. I tried programmatically clicking on the menu-bar icon with code like this (source) : - tell application "System Events" to tell process "SystemUIServer" to tell (menu bar item 1 of menu bar 1) to click - But, I am unable to get AppleScript to click on any icon that falls to the left of the wifi symbol. - I am aware that Hangouts has a web interface (https://hangouts.google.com) . However, any phone number that is given to the web interface is dialed by the extension (not by the web interface itself). So, interacting with the extension directly is more ideal. ---------- Is the dreaded *mouse-click simulation* the only way to accomplish what I want? ----------

I could have sworn that Google Hangouts *used* to provide a settings panel for testing and adjusting audio settings. I know I've used it in the past: it was a facility that showed volume levels, let you play a test sound, etc. Now I cannot find it anywhere. After starting a video Hangout in the latest Safari or Chrome on OSX 10.9.5, clicking on the gear icon in the top portion of the screen brings up a dialog that has only the following options: enter image description here The only feature now is "Play test sound"; none of the submenus, or elsewhere in Hangouts as far as I can see, is there any ability to adjust volume, test that the microphone is working properly, etc. I feel I'm either a complete idiot now or dreamt the whole thing. What am I missing? How do I adjust sound settings for Google Hangouts? I really believe there used to be a more extensive preferences/settings panel than the one (the only one) I can find now.

Using AppleScript, I want to set the bounds of the window for the Google Hangouts desktop application. The application file is located at: >/Users/Me/Applications/Chrome Apps.localized/Default knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl.app (I have no idea why the application name is knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl.) I've tried the following tell application "Default knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl" to set bounds of front window to {405, 23, 1037, 633} but I am given the error: > Default knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl got an error: Can’t get > window 1. Invalid index. So, then I thought, "The Hangouts application must not be scriptable." I tried the method provided in this answer to change the window size for a non-scriptable application via System Events: set theSBounds to {{405, 23}, {1037, 633}} tell application "System Events" set size of front window of application process "Default knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl" to item 1 of theSBounds set position of front window of application process "Default knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl" to item 2 of theSBounds end tell but I am given the error: >System Events got an error: Can’t set application process "Default knipolnnllmklapflnccelgolnpehhpl" to {405, 23}. After opening the dictionary for the Google Hangouts app via Script Editor.app, I realized that the app is in fact scriptable and can respond to **bounds**. The app is compatible with both the standard and text AppleScript suites. Does anyone know how to set the bounds for this application?

On an iOS 8 device, I installed Google Hangouts and upon first launch, it pre-populated an account that was previously associated with a different, and long ago deleted, Google app. Since I had just Reset Advertising Identifier, I assumed it must be the Vendor ID (there was another Google app installed on the device). So, I deleted both (all) Google apps on the device, which *should* reset the Vendor ID. I then re-installed Google Hangouts and launched it. It STILL had the old account active. This is not only mysterious behavior, but is also a pretty serious security and privacy vulnerability. When an app is deleted, and especially when all apps from a vendor are deleted, there should be no active accounts or data left on the device. Any ideas on how Google Hangouts knows about the old account?
