In the process of trying to install 4.4.4 on my galaxyTab 10.1, I've installed TWRP 2.7.1.0.
At this point when in recovery mode I need to select the Zip to install, but none of the previously downloaded zip files are visible to TWRP. Neither under the install command nor in the file manager.
I had backed up, removed caches et al. When rebooting in normal operation mode, those files are browsable. Permissions are set to 777.
So I don't understand where the hang-up is?

I just picked up an Android tablet running 3.1 and am having a nightmare of a time configuring the email settings properly. It's quite embarrassing, really. This is my issue:
I have several POP3 email accounts from domains that I host. I am able to configure the android tablet to receive email from those accounts quite easily. However, I cannot get the bloody thing to connect to the SMTP server. I am in Canada, so port 25 is blocked and I need to use either 26 or 587. I use 26 on both my Linux laptop and my Blackberry. The server does not require authorization so I have that disable on both of the other devices. However, when I try to connect using the Android tablet I keep getting a server error for an invalid username / password. I have unchecked the "Require Sign In" box, so the device should not be trying to authenticate, and I have verified that the service is not asking for authentication. Yet, here I am with an authentication issue.
I know this has to be something ridiculously simple, but for the life of me I can't find it. I'm using the same settings that work on other devices and getting zero love from this tablet. I've tried using 587 and get the same response. I've been all through the settings on the device looking for another place to turn off SMTP authentication but I can't find anything anywhere other than the mail program itself. What am I missing here?

I've recently gotten an Asus EEE Pad Transformer (my first Android device) and I love it. I've updated it to 3.1 right away.
I tried to enable the "Encrypt tablet" option. After following the on-screen advice (fully loaded battery and having the charger attached), I entered the PIN and pushed the button.
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
All the time the tablet showed the green "encrypting" droid full screen, but didn't show any progress meter or any other text (even the system bar was disabled).
After several hours there was no visible progress (the introduction screen mentioned that it can take "an hour or longer") and after a while I shut down and rebooted the tablet. Everything worked just as fine as before, but nothing was encrypted.
I've attempted this a few times now, but every time it showed the exact same result (i.e. none).
I've searched around and found several accounts of the same thing happening to other 3.0-users and not a single post saying "yes, tablet encryption worked just fine for me".
Can someone shed some light on this? Or at least post a "it worked for me, sorry"?
Note that this tablet is not rooted and I don't plan to do that (yet).

Motorola Xoom running Honeycomb 3.1, for the last few days, every few minutes I get a popup in the middle of the screen saying:
> Sorry!
> The process com.google.process.gaps has stopped unexpectedly. PLease try again.
> Force close
This happens when I'm running pretty much any app: browser, Google Reader, Gallery, GMail, File Manager HD, etc. Can't work out any pattern to i, sometimes it happens every couple of minutes, sometimes I can go for 10 or more minutes without seeing it.
What's causing this (or how can I tell what's causing this) and how can I stop it?
**Update**
This does appear to only happen when I've got a network connection (mine's a Wifi only tablet) - after installing alogcat , I did a 40 minute commute on a train using Google Listen and playing Angry Birds, with no errors popping up at all (and therefore no way to catch anything in the log. Will have to wait until I'm home again to investigate further.

I've got a Logitech USB mouse and keyboard plugged into my Xoom, which is running Tiamat 1.4.4 kernel on top of Android 3.1. Both are recognized and provide input correctly, but I noticed that the right mouse button is treated just as a left mouse button click. I had hoped that this would instead act like a long press since that's something of an analogue to the right click concept, but I can't find a way to do so. This is particularly annoying because I'm trying out Splashtop and it makes a lot of things really awkward or downright impossible.
Is there any setting (or other method) to make the right click button actually perform a "right click" type of action, such as a long press?

I have a Samsung galaxy 10.1 tablet (GT-P7500) with android version 3.1.
I upgraded the android to 4.0.4 (the latest one available). It was rooted but I guess I've modified something since it always used to show "permission denied" for superuser requests.
So I rooted the tablet. When I did, the tablet didn't reboot by itself. Someone suggested that I wipe all data. So I did it and now the tablet reboots well, but it isn't showing the mobile networks options when I go to
Settings > About device > Wireless & Networks
.
I am not getting the 3G network either.
I want my tablet to get the mobile network again and I want to upgrade it to android version 4.0.4.

Is it possible to shutdown or restart a Logitech Revue without pulling the power cord?
My Revue (Android 3.1) was acting balky, so I wanted to restart it. I spent several minutes looking through menus, but didn't find an option to shut down or restart the OS. I ended up pulling the power cord, but it seemed a bit harsh.

Is it possible for an Android 4 phone with only a standard micro-USB port (not OTG), to be provided with a USB host port through an adapter using the Android accessory protocol? Do such adapters exist?
The adapter would need power and 2 USB ports. One USB port would act as a host and plug any USB device (for example a keyboard), the other would act as an 'Android accessory' and plug into the phone. Android should be able to use the device as if it were plugged in directly to a host port (on a tablet).
It would be really great if the adapter was also powered by micro-USB, and that it could pass-through data to a computer host (Storage, tether, ADB, etc.).
**Diagram:**
Is all/any of this possible? Do such adapters exist? If not, how would I make one?

I have a large collection of books on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, organized by topic in many nested folders. I have a certain subset of them (coming from multiple folders) that I expect to refer to frequently, let's call them the "popular" books for convenience.
*I'd like to have a single icon I can press on my home screen that will, one way or another, bring up the list of popular books, from where I can select a book to open.*
- I want to preserve the organization of the folders, so creating a separate folder containing the popular books is not an option.
- I want to save space, so I don't want to make copies of every popular book and put all the copies in a separate folder.
Given these constraints, there are two approaches I can think of to do what I want.
First way:
1. Get an app "A" that can create shortcuts to individual files, and puts the shortcuts on the home screen.
2. Get an app "B" that can take *arbitrary* items on the home screen, and bundle them together into a single folder on the home screen.
3. Use A to create shortcuts to all the popular books on the home screen, then use B to bundle them together. Clicking the icon created by B should bring up a list of the popular books that I can then select from.
Second way:
1. Get an app "C" that can create shortcuts to individual files and put them *in the file system*, like (for example) Windows can - in Windows Explorer, I can right click on any file and choose "Create Shortcut", and the shortcut appears right there next to the file, not on the desktop.
2. Get an app "D" that can create shortcuts to folders in the file system, and puts the shortcuts on the homescreen.
3. Use C to create shortcuts to all the popular books in the file system, move them all to a single folder in the file system, then use D to create a shortcut to that folder on the home screen. Clicking the shortcut created by D should open the folder, which contains links to the popular books (this, presumably, does not have the same space issues as having two copies of every popular book).
So, here are my questions:
- Are there any other approaches you can think of to doing this?
- Do you have any recommendations for apps that would fill the role of B or C? I currently have Linda Manager, and it is only able to do A and D, as far as I can tell. For B, I have looked at Folder Manager, whose purpose is to create folders of apps on the home screen, but (as far as I can tell) it can't see the home screen shortcuts that Linda Manager creates to individual files.
- Are there any issues with either approach I proposed above that might prevent them from working? For example, are shortcuts "in the file system" even possible in Android?
Many thanks for your help.

I'm using a Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G (GT-P7500), Android 3.1, Baseband version P7500XXKG7, Build HMJ37 P7500XWKG9, rooted. (I got it *with* 3.1 and TouchWiz preinstalled.)
A few weeks ago, I got a notification about an OTA update. The only information I get about this update is:
Update details (9.61MB)
Improved stability.
Trying to install this update reproducibly fails. It downloads, then asks me whether to install. I confirm, and it tells me that it will reboot the device. The device reboots. During the reboot animation, I see a low-resolution progress bar that runs until about 25%. Then it reboots again, I enter my PIN and it tells me: "Failed to update firmware. Try again using PC software (Kies) or visit a Samsung service centre". It does not give me any details as to why it has failed.
I connected DDMS to the device during the update, but (as expected) it doesn't show anything during that phase. I don't know how to get any additional reporting as to why the update failed.
I can't connect the device to Kies either. Again, it doesn't report the problem. Kies notices when I connect the device, then says: "Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode.Current connection mode not supported by Kies." (sic!)
What can cause an OTA update to fail?

I just got a new ASUS Eee Transformer TF101. (Ironically on the day the Prime is officially released/announced. Oh well).
It came with Android 3.1 per the Settings page. I tried Settings: About tablet: System Update and am told there are no updates available.
I read that 3.2 is available on these devices. (I know 4.0/ICS is still a future thing).
How do I get to 3.2 on this device? No obvious downloads on Asustek web page.
I am on my WiFi at home, checking mail, downloading apps, etc.
So how do I troubleshoot why the Over The Air upgrade did not show an available update, when there has been one available since early 2011 (many moons ago).
I am logged in to my Google Account. (I have my Gmail, Google Voice, and Youtube accounts all connecting ok).
What else can I check or look at, to understand why the OTA upgrade is not being made available.

One of my Samsung Galaxy Tabs v10.1 will not accept certain dialog input unless the tablet is some other direction than right-side up (left portrait, right portrait or upside down all work fine). For example hold the power button to turn it off, it asks "are you sure you want to shutdown?" It ignores all touches including "Ok" or "Cancel".
Also when you use the keyboard it often inserts two letters on one key push.
Thinking that this HAS to be a software issue I rooted and installed clockwork Mod ROM manager and restored an image from another working tablet. No change. This is the weirdest issue to date with my tablet adventures. Any idea what is going on?
UPDATE: Samsung repair said the screen was bad. They didn't elaborate but at least I have a working tablet now!
