When using my Verizon HTC Thunderbolt running CyanogenMod to call my wife's Verizon HTC Incredible, also running CyanogenMod, it always goes straight to Voice Mail. I can call other Verizon phones with no issue and my wife can call me with no issue and my wife can receive calls from other Verizon lines with no issue and she can call me with no issue. Issue is only from my phone to hers. I called Verizon and they said it is not a network issue and suggested an installed application might be causing the issue. They suggested to put both phones into Safe Mode boot. I was able to do this for Incredible, but failed using the directions they provided for the Thunderbolt. They said after boot starts, hold down volume down key for boot process on Thunderbolt.
How can I debug this issue of my phone going straight to Voice Mail? What would cause just my phone to experience this issue? Any advise and suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm trying to set up a VPN so that I can have a connection to my LAN from my phone (HTC Droid Incredible, Stock ROM, Not rooted) wherever I am.
AFAICT, everything is set up correctly. The Domain Name resolves correctly, I forwarded the ports required by the how-to I was following, yet I still can't connect.
I have no idea what's wrong or how to get to any debug information. The only thing I can think of that I haven't verified yet is the port, but I couldn't find a way to select one.
What Port Does Android Use For VPN Connections?
P.S. I would *really* like to do this without rooting.

sluggish performance due to mmcqd CPU usage

I have an older Droid Incredible running Cyanogenmod 7.2. Recently, I've noticed some sluggishness on the phone that doesn't seem limited to a single app. The CPU Usage Plus app (which I think just runs
top
) often reports that the mmcqd\2
process is using up a lot of CPU (sometimes 50-60%). Googling around, it seems that this process is somehow related to SD card access.
Is there any way for me to diagnose in more detail what exactly is causing this process to use so much CPU, e.g., by seeing what other process is accessing the SD card? Could re-formatting the SD card help? Or could CPU Usage Plus be leading me astray? I have some apps installed on the SD card, and I could try moving them all back to the phone, but it would be nice to figure out a more detailed diagnosis before trying random solutions.

False "low on space" (internal storage) warning on HTC Incredible

A while ago, I posted [another question here](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/15666/low-on-space-warning-with-over-50-free) when I had plenty of free internal storage but was getting the following warning:
Low on space: Phone storage space is getting low.
The problem was apparently a bug during the upgrade to Gingerbread, and following the steps in the accepted answer to get the hotfix resolved the issue for several months.
However, recently I've been getting that same message again. Even though it complains about low internal storage, clicking on the warning brings me to a screen that shows me:
Internal storage: 348MB used, 400MB free
I'm using a Verizon HTC Incredible running Gingerbread. I have followed the steps in the other question (clearing system cache) and rebooted the phone several times. I have moved many apps to the SD card which seems to resolve the issue for a few days, but then the warning comes back. It seems like 47% full should not be triggering a low space warning (which has other ramifications, like my email not refreshing).
Any ideas what's wrong this time?

I'm running MIUI 11.20.90 on my HTC Incredible. I recently updated the Google Search app via the Android Market and now the default search app has changed from Google Search to MIUI's built-in Sidekick search app. To be clear, this is only when single-pressing the hw search button; long-pressing the search button brings up Voice Search (as desired) and the default setting for that action is still configurable. I really prefer Google over Sidekick and would like to change it back.
I tried resetting the default search app but can't - under the Google Search app's properties "Launch by Default" says "No defaults set" and the "clear defaults" button is grayed out. I can't find the Sidekick app in the applications list.
I also tried to uninstall/reinstall Google Search but the market only allows me to revert from the update with the message "Do you want to uninstall all updates to this Android system app?" When trying to uninstall Google Search in the OS I get the error "Unable to remove system application."
I think it's silly to have the Google Search bar/widget taking up homescreen real estate when I have a dedicated hw search button, so I'd really like to find a way to get the default corrected.

I'm trying to add my Facebook account instead of using Facebook for HTC Sense. However, when I go to Accounts & sync > Add account > Facebook, nothing happens. If I tap any other account, I get prompted for login information (or, if I'm already logged in, the ability to change settings or add a second account). I really dislike the Facebook for HTC Sense, so there's got to be a way to add my Facebook account without using Facebook for HTC Sense.

My HTC Incredible refuses to let me view my SMS messages. It will show the list of SMS senders, but when I click one to see their messages I get blocked by this popup:
> Unable to manage your messages because your storage is full. Please
> delete content from other applications to make more space.
Of course I checked right away to see if I was using too much memory. I went to Menu->Settings->SD & Phone Storage and saw I have plenty of space:
SD card - Available space: 5.72GB
Internal phone storage - Available space: 6.25GB
Phone memory - Available space: 571MB
I have more free memory than used memory so that can't be the problem. I tried restarting my phone as well but no change in message. I also Googled the problem and among all the "me too" responses found that other have this problem where SMS is blocked even though they have plenty of memory.
I couldn't get a clear resolution and I'm worried the answers are now out of date. ZDNet published a couple of articles on the issue:
Have I solved my Droid Incredible storage problem?
Is your Droid Incredible low on disk space?
Both suggest this is HTC's fault and that there is no fix. They say you can try clearing the cache on HTC's apps like Peep, Messages and Mail and also advise clearing the cache on your browsers.
I've tried these techniques, but they didn't work.
Does anyone know what causes this and what solutions exist?

I've had my phone rooted and flashed/reset/reflashed it several times in the last couple years. However, I recently reflashed to the stock image found here .
When I try to use SU apps, it prompts to allow, I say yes, it seems to proceed as I'm used to, but nothing happens.
So I open up trusty terminal and get a $. I type
su
, prompt/approve, but it just hangs. I never get a #. No error, no permission denied, nothing. I'm assuming this is the underlying cause of why SU doesn't seem to work for anything.
I've checked and confirmed that setuid is set:
-rwsr-sr-x root root ..... su
So I'm kind of at a loss here. Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to Root to uninstall the default HTC apps that keep causing my 'Low Memory Errors'.
If i install Gingerbread, is that a ROM like CM7 is?
Confused as to what exactly to do after a root, can i install Gingerbread without rooting?
If i want to install HTC sense, is that a ROM??
Thanks for the clarification here, i've searched numerous forums, but can't seem to find specific answers.
