I'm out of ideas. How do I get S-OFF on my HTC One S in this day and age? (The only reason I want S-OFF is to install HBOOT 2.16.)

Apart from complaining that /data could not be mounted (EDIT: fixed this by turning off encryption), it claims to have worked. * I wiped the cache and rebooted. Nevertheless, if I adb shell and su I get /sbin/sh: su: not found. There is a /supersu/ directory which contains su and some other stuff, but I can't run /supersu/su: permission denied. The find command finds no other file on the device matching /su$/. I also tried flashboot boot superboot.img to get Superboot, but if I do this, the device does not boot past the initial splash screen (the one saying "This build is for development purposes only..."). What went wrong?

The other pages I've seen present a very muddled picture and no links through which to download the actual firmware. I have a rooted device, S-OFF, super CID 11111111, formerly H3G__001 I believe. I'm going round in circles trying to figure this out. How do I upgrade my firmware?

I am working up from the bottom of this list: the instructions for Super cid begin adb shell su dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 This gives me a permission denied error. Here is the full contents of the shell: #> adb shell shell@ville:/ $ su 255|shell@ville:/ $ dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p4: cannot open for read: Permission denied 1|shell@ville:/ $ ls -al /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 brw------- root root 179, 4 2017-02-28 20:35 mmcblk0p4 shell@ville:/ $ I find it odd that su seems to change the user to 255 and the failure of dd seems to change the user to 1, but what do I know? Why is this permission error happening and how do I fix it? The phone currently runs Cyanogenmod.

I have an Android HTC One SV (Android 4.1.2, HTC Sense 5.0, not rooted). It's recently been struggling for storage space to the point where it was reporting low and then critically low storage. Note this is the *app* storage, not anything to do with the built-in or external SD cards. >tl;dr: **Is there a known issue with "dead files" cluttering up App Storage? Is there any way to clear said storage out, or at least view the app storage and see what's taking up the space?** ---------- Steps I took as space became more and more scarce: - Moved apps that don't care about being on the App Storage to the SD Card - Cleared all the caches I could find - Cleared all the data I could find - Deleted all text messages - Moved apps that really don't like being on the SD Card to the SD card - Uninstalled all uninstallable apps except the ones I was actually using on a daily basis - Uninstalled updates to the non-uninstallable apps - Uninstalled apps that were actually on the SD Card out of sheer desperation Whatever space was regained by this was in the 10-50 megabyte range in total and was "mysteriously eaten" over about 2 weeks of normal usage (e.g. web-surfing on Chrome, checking e-mails). By the time I'd got to the bottom step, the automated storage tool was informing me that there was nothing to uninstall/move. When the phone finally started reporting "less than 0Mb" and crashing the basic phone functionality, I took extreme measures and "Power+Vol'Down'd" it, selecting "Clear Storage" from the BootLoader. That got me back almost 1Gb of space, at which point I was finally able to install Android 4.2.2 (up to this point, it couldn't even *download* the necessary update). I also updated all the built-in applications to current. I then installed my core application suite: - Note Everything - BeyondPod Pro - NoteEverything Pro - Amazon MP3 - Audible My phone currently reports that it has 355MB of "App Storage" available; out of 3.85 Gb. Of the used, 673MB is Apps, and a staggering *2.85 Gb* is the mysterious "Other". I want that **Other** back. The space reclamation tool merely suggests I uninstall the 5 apps above for a grand total of 66.7 Mb, which is... irritating. Is there a known issue with "dead files" cluttering up App Storage? Is there any way to clear said storage out, or at least view the app storage and see what's taking up the space?

I have HTC One S. When I open my Storage , it says : 4.10GB/6.07GB ; Apps: 220MB ; Other : 3.88GB ; Available: 1.97GB . That's after I restarted my phone on Backup & Reset. I did it several times , and it doesn't change. I'm clueless. I don't have any ideas on what could take that space , nor how do I clean it (properly ofc.). I was looking on the internet for a whole week, and still have found nothing useful. I have tried Clean Master. It doesn't make any difference in the "Other" category. Still the same. It is a old phone , my dad was using it for 1/1.5 years , but I don't think it has any influence on the current memory , after resetting the phone. Only the "Apps" is clickable in Storage. In other words - I cant click on "Other" to see what's inside. I tried an app called "Disk Usage" , and it says: 1)When I click on app storage : Applications : 220MiB ; Data : 2236MiB ; Free space : 2016MiB . Now , 2)When I click on Storage card: Storage card: 10171MiB ; System data... Android... (and many more little stuff) ; Free space 10164MiB... I'm not worried about my phone storage - on storage card. I'm worried about my internal storage , which is, I'm pretty sure , showed on app storage. The big thing : FREAKING 2236MiB FOR DATA? It has to be Data that's messing me up. Data is lost when resetting the phone with erasing al the data , right? I did it several times , but still , the category "Other" still doesn't change at all. From this , kind of a bigger talk... well to read it is big, right? Never mind... Again , from this bigger talk , I actually only want to know the answers for two questions : What is on "Other"? and , How do I clean "Other" Thank you for responding in advance. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=ABE64B8B54D4B3FA!3407&authkey=!AEzUeDYmxJnRCo8&ithint=folder%2c (here are the pictures)

I recently discovered that all my photos on my phone has disappeared from the Gallery application. I connected my phone to my computer, and the images are still present in DCIM/100MEDIA/ directory. I did a backup of my photos, tried stopping the phone, the app (gallery), removing the cache from that app but no luck. While searching for a solution online, I found that some people also had the same problem with the music app. I have albums that used to work, so I was sure to find them. But now they also have disappeared. So Gallery and Music is empty despite having files in the correct folder. Regarding Gallery, if I take a new photo, it will correctly be added to the DCIM/100MEDIA/ folder, with the name IMAG001332.jpg (for example), but with 1332 being a correct incremental number (not starting from 0), which is even weirder. I don't know what to do to fix it! Does anyone can help me? (Note: I have an HTC One S) Update: I did a reset of my phone (http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-s-t-mobile/howto/315367.html) without any luck.

As far as I know, flashing the wrong ROM could brick my phone. Well, I was able to find exactly one guide but I would have needed the HTC Sync Manager which I cannot install because the installation gives me a Blue Screen of Death on windows 8.1... So I'd need a guide that works without the Sync Manager (Windows 8.1 or Linux - Linux preferred). Unfortunately I'm completely new to rooting Android and don't know what to pay attention to while doing so.

I have begun doing research about rooting my HTC One S phone (HTC Sense looks so nice but unfortunately is so unstable) and one of the first things I've noticed is that [there are two versions of HTC One S](http://androidforums.com/one-s-all-things-root/597701-htc-one-s-has-two-versions-s3-s4.html) . One has a 1.5gHz dual core CPU, the other has a 1.7gHz dual core CPU. I went through all the information I could find in my phone's "about" menu, but the CPU section only specifies "dual core". The packaging also has no further details than this. The **only** reference I have is that the (online) shop I bought it at, has 1.5gHz in the spec. That would mean I have the S4 which is the most common version. But the vendor may as well get that information from somewhere else rather than the actual product, so I want to be sure before doing anything. I've already searched google and can't find anything, but I hardly know what to look for either. Seems like no other website knows of this distinction. On a side note, if anyone knows (has experience with) any good and reliable guides about rooting the HTC One S, feel free to post them as well.

After removing my Google-Account on my HTC One S and adding it again, i recognized that all birthdays stored with contacts are in my calendar twice. When i change birthday at some contact, there is only one, which changes. The information is not from another calendar like Facebook or Google. After removing my account once and adding it, i had two birthdays for each contact, only one changes. After removing my account another time and adding it, i had three birthdays for each conatct and only one changes. So why this happens or how can i delete or avoid this? I would like the delete either automically or manually (prefering automatically) but i found no solution to do this. I made a screenshot to make it clearer. enter image description here

This is something that's been bugging me ever since the 3.4 kernel was released: **Problem:** I am getting intermittent reboots when using any ROM which is based on the 3.4 kernel. It happens totally at random, but only when I'm actually using the phone - never when it's locked, or in my pocket. Here are my last_kmsg logs , but this is where it gets really weird - it reboots twice. Every time. Once I get the initial reboot, it reboots to the HTC screen, then immediately reboots again. So I'm not sure the last_kmsg will even be that accurate. **Things I've Tried** - Returning to stock RUU/upgrading/reflashing - Not restoring apps - Switching off Wifi - Undervolting/Overvolting - Different CPU Governors/Clock Speeds - Many different ROMS - CM10.2 Kernel & also Bubba Kernel Would love to hear anything else I could potentially try, or other users with similar issues.

Always had it. Can i somehow get it? The only things i've done before was unlocking via htcdev, flashing twrp, backing up, restoring backup, restarting, and started installing apps. So it's the original HTC rom and i haven't done changes to rom. Did OTA after didn't found it but still, it's not there. enter image description here

In the pull down menu of my HTC One S, there is this persistent download icon, it's just stuck there even though download completed days ago. It came when I was doing some app downloads and has refused to go away even after downloads are over. On the top icon row of the phone, the animated download icon also shows, has been showing for days, even with no downloads. Rebooting does not get rid of the icons. Does anyone know how to get rid of these? Your help is appreciated. The screenshots below show the icons - icons of concern are circled in black: [Screenshot 1](https://www.dropbox.com/s/nl57x13vo6w9lii/shot%20of%20persistent%20download%20icon.png) [Screenshot 2](https://www.dropbox.com/s/s8gd4l3zbrid87d/shot%20of%20persistent%20download%20icon%202.png) Screenshots (click images for larger variants)
