Why can't I save an emergency phone number in my addressbook?
I live in Thailand, and the emergency medical response number to dial here is 1669. When I try to save this number in my address book on Android, it says "Emergency Number Cannot Be Saved". What gives? It's probably the most important number for me to save, and I can't. Is there any way to fix this?...

- My device isn't rooted.
- I'm saving to an address book that is synced via CardDAV.
- I'm running Android 8.0.0 on a Xiaomi Mi A1.

I have a Mi A1 device which I didn't use for months and today I charged it to root for some work. I am sure Wifi was working earlier, but not sure about USB file transfer. (I didn't check wifi this time, just charged and started the rooting process)
I was able to unlock the bootloader and root the device and while I was in TWRP, I was able to transfer files from my PC to the android device. After rooting this device, I am seeing this
1. When I tried turning the wifi on, it automatically disables the wifi. I click the enable button and it automatically disables.
2. I wanted to connect the device using ADB, but when I connect the USB cable to the PC, its not showing up in ADB. Its not even showing in windows explorer where you can transfer files.
I am not sure how to solve this issue.

Until recently I had multilingual typing enabled on my keyboard. It was possible to swipe in German and English at the same keyboard without changing languages. The spacebar had "English - German" written on it.
Somehow it got accidentally turned off. Maybe by some gesture on the spacebar?
Now I can't figure out how to turn that feature on again.
The toggle used to turn it on in the keyboard settings is disabled and can't be turned on.
The hint says that multiple languages have to be enabled. But where can that be done?
On the languages screen there are already two languages. Unfortunately they are also separate keyboards and I always have to switch with the globe button.

My phone Mi A1 showed first the notification update for Oreo, it failed twice before showing the update for Security Patch of December after which the update of Oreo totally disappeared. Checking for the update manually the phone shows the message that I am on latest update.
I tried the available online solutions of:
1. Reset Factory Defaults.
2. Clear data of Google Services Framework followed by a Disable then Enable.
None of them worked!

Hey guys i recently bought an Xiaomi Mi A1.
The OS needs 8GB plus much goggle on it (I hate google) so I decided to flash a custom rom. I figured some how out how to boot and afterwards flash the TWRP recovery (Version 3.1.1 By Mohan CM-Mi A1). Through TWRP I want to flash Lineage OS which throw the error 255. Confused with this, I tried different TWRPs, ROMs and also formated all partitions exept recovery and boot (so I formatted Data, Cache and Dalvik, System, and Internal Storage) and even tried sideload. None Worked... so now I have no system to boot on and dont know what to do to get Lineage running.
SOLUTION:
The lineage wiki always links the TWRP they are using in the tutorial (Mi A1: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/tissot/install)
which also links to an TWRP build. This build should normally work.

After the Oreo 8.0.0 update on MI A1, the screen timeout when the lock screen appears, takes the same value as the sleep timeout.
Usually when there was Nougat, the timeout on lock screen would be very short (5 seconds I guess).
Is this is a bug or intentional feature? Also is it only on Mi A1 or all phones running Oreo 8.0.0?

Two days ago, I got android oreo 8.0 update for my xiaomi mi A1 phone which is a device based on *Android One*. But one of the features which I loved the most before Oreo was complete control of network access for specific apps. When I was using nougat, I could completely allow or block network access to certain apps in both mobile and wifi networks separately. But after oreo update, that option is gone. I can now only disable the background data usage but can't block the network access of an app completely. Even if i set the wifi network as metered one and disable background network access of an app, it still uses the network and keeps consuming my data.
It's kind of disappointing how the developers gave us super granular control over notifications but removed a very useful feature, at least for me, which was already there in nougat. For those who don't know about it, the option is available in *data usage* section, when you tap the three dots in upper right corner, two options come up. One is mobile network and other was **app network access**. **Unfortunately, it's not there anymore in Oreo.**
Although, I found a solution, a temporary one. I started using *no root firewall* app from play store and it did the work but it has limitation. It creates its own vpn to pass the network data for the specific app. As long as it's running, your choice of allowing or blocking network access for a certain app will be as per your choice. But what if i use a paid vpn service, which I do, the vpn created by *no root firewall* app will get disconnected as you can't run two vpn simultaneously in phone and your network access choice for apps won't work anymore. Well that's unfortunate, isn't it! If you haven't tried this yet, try it once.
I could do this without *no root firewall* app on nougat but I have to use this app on oreo
The built-in option for network access control was good but i don't know why they removed it. It's still there on xiaomi phones with MIUI but not on A1 as it's running on the android one. If any developer from Google is reading this then please restore that option back as it was in nougat. Also for MI A1 phone.
There are other issues also with Oreo on Mi A1. They say oreo has gotten more snappier and smoother but I think not more than it was in nougat. It's become more sluggish. I can't scroll through apps in a folder with smooth effect. I can almost see the lagging scroll, even the app drawer has a slight lag when it goes up or down. The battery backup has reduced than it was on nougat and most annoying, I can't remove the system notifications completely which keeps showing me apps running in the background. Well, I want it to run in background and I want their notifications but I don't need an extra notification badge telling me which are those apps, all I can do is snooze it but no more than 2 hours. The most annoying feature taking notifications space and good for nothing.
I think the lag and sluggish UI for A1 will be fixed later but the annoying notification and options for **app network access** really need some attention.
There are many more things but i hope it's already long enough. Sometimes, I regret updating to oreo. I don't need that picture in picture or super granular notification control which I could do it previously also on nougat. I could turn off notifications of an app completely. Whether I want or don't want, no need of giving options like marketing notifications, miscellaneous notifications, etc. I mean, most of the people don't even need such options. I just want that **inbuilt app network access option in data usage section which would allow me to have complete control over network access of certain applications** because sometimes I just want to go back to nougat but I think I can't do it without losing my data.
Thank you for reading.

I tried uploading some large audio files recorded on my phone to Google Drive to free up space on my phone (Xiaomi A1).
Almost immediately, I got memory insufficient warnings; apparently the Google Drive app stores a local copy on the device everything something is uploaded.
Is this counter-productive or am I using Drive wrong? I'd like to store files on the cloud and not on my device, with an option to download them to device when I require them. Any solutions towards this end are welcome!
( I would prefer not to migrate to another cloud storage app, but if that's the only option and/or there are other good reasons for that, please let me know.)

MiA1 is probably the only one of it's kind that **doesn't** wipe data when bootloader is unlocked (tested by me and widely known)
It is said to be a security threat. **I am not clear how**
Say my device is stolen and one wants to access data how does this feature make it easier given
* I use 6 digit PIN and fingerprint. One has to get past that before
adb
can be activated and used to transfer data to a PC.
* The device is encrypted (Oreo 8.0.0)
* Debugging turned off
(I am not talking of risks of unlocked boot loader. I understand that)
This is not a hypothetical question but something I need to understand, this being my daily use device.
I don't have information that calls for three letter agencies to use sophisticated tools , so that angle can be ruled out while answering (though useful to know).
I am looking for realistic threat assessment

My phone is kept always on vibrate mode. When the screen is on and I get an SMS I can see the pop up notification and that's fine. Problem is when the screen is off - SMS sender name is read out aloud " Message from [sender name]" preceded by two long vibrations
I find this highly annoying sometimes and found no setting to mute this ( to replicate screen on behavior). I don't want to activate DND mode because I want to know that I have a text message waiting to be read via vibrate buzz
Surprised to see that no one complains of this on the net so obviously no solution ( Imagine your phone is on vibrate in a meeting but your phone announces to the world message from AXAIRNF or some embarrassing contact name) I tried automation, some Xposed / Magisk modules but none worked
**Edit** These additional attempts didn't help
1. Switching off the notification of SMS app
2. Trying alternate apps such as Textra etc
3. Putting the device on low ringer / notification volume when screen is off
4. Suspecting Text-to-Speech to be the culprit, killed that service when screen is off - no luck
**Any solutions # including rooted means?**
Mia1 stock 8.1 rooted with Magisk and Xposed (had same problem on 8.0 too). [Stock Messaging app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging)
----------
# If you want to suggest automating, please stick to MacroDroid (don't want to add another automation app just for this). Gravity Box doesn't help. If your solution involves an alternate messaging app, it should be good at blocking spam SMS / be able to control reading of sender name(Textra already tried)

I'm having a problem with my Xiaomi mi 5X and i wondered if someone on this forum could help me solve it.
As i said, i have a Xiaomi mi 5X but i changed its firmware and OS to the one of Mi A1 (Android One).
Today I was trying to install on my device the GCam app, with the tool Mi A1 GCam.
After I clicked the "Enable HAL3, EIS and install" the phone went dark. Now i can't boot into the OS, nor the twrp nor to the fastboot mode. When i try to do it i have to hold down the power button and corresponding volume key for several seconds and the Android One boot screen appears but just in a flash, and goes dark again.
Can any of you help me, please?
Thank you

I have tried enabling USB debugging. Not sure what else to do? I also tried plugging my mouse in instead but nothing happens.
