Nexus One, cleared internal user storage to near-factory settings using the boot menu. My computer is connected to wifi, and I have a USB tether to my phone. But when I click on "Connect to wifi" -- even in the virgin "user setup" menu -- No networks are found, and the device becomes unbearably slow. The device had functioned properly for 1.5 years ... until yesterday. I don't know whether the problem is hardware or software. If it is in software, I would like to fix it... but I don't have wifi, and I don't have 3G. What are the steps to diagnose this problem? If it is a software problem, what are the steps to fix it?

Nexus One's 3.5mm headphone jack accepts standard 3.5mm plug?
As you know, the Nexus One comes with a **4**-segment 3.5mm headphone jack, whereas the standard 3.5mm plug has 3 segments. As you know, the Nexus One comes with a **4**-segment 3.5mm headphone jack, whereas the standard 3.5mm plug has 3 segments. I visually compared a standard 3-segment 3.5mm plug with the **4**-segment 3.5mm plug that comes with the original Nexus One headset and they seem identical in length. My only concern is that plugging in a standard 3-segment into this **4**-segment jack will damage the Nexus One. Better safe than sorry... so instead of empirically plugging in the standard 3-segment plug in the the N1 just to see whether it causes a fatal short or not, I prefer to ask those who are already knowledgeable with this: Is it **safe** to use a standard 3-segment with the N1 headphone jack?

One app (Dino Dominion ) will not register location but will express this complaint: "In order to register your location, please turn the location permission setting on in the application settings." The app itself has permissions (told to me when installed and when Managing Applications) of coarse and fine location. I didn't think these permissions needed "turning on" - other apps are using GPS without problems. I asked the app developer, but all they said was "You have to turn on location permission on your device" and "GPS needs to be valid on the side of your device." I couldn't see any relevant settings anywhere. The GPS is working fine. Also, other users of the app seem to have no problems. I have HTC Nexus One and Android 2.2.2.

For some reason when receiving pictures from people with iPhones, they sometimes show up as a video. The video is usually 20 seconds long with the first half blank (sometimes there is text depending on how the person sent the message) and the second half contains the picture (though it is really small). Any idea what is going on here? Googling didn't really turn up anything so I suspect this is only happening with the AT&T version of the Nexus One with MMS sent from AT&T iPhones or something. This has happened since 2.1-update1 when I first got the phone and still happens now (running 2.3.4 stock Google OS, unrooted). OK, I did find some other people with similar issues: Does anyone know of a way to workaround this? It's really quite annoying. Even a bug number in Google's issue tracking system would at least give me some hope that this would get fixed.

I love Android and have been a proud Nexus One owner for over a year now. I was also really excited when Gingerbread dropped and flashed my phone before the OTA update (who can wait for these things anyway). However, since upgrading, Gingerbread has not been the bliss that I had hoped for. The first thing I've noticed is that the new keyboard seems to freeze every other day rendering any app that uses text input unusable. This causes me to have to reboot my phone (or at the very least end the keyboard process). I also started to notice that since my upgrade my phone will sometimes stop syncing with my work's Exchange server, causing me to miss emails that I used to get while not at my desk (again a reboot seems to fix this). I tried removing this account and re-adding it only for it to continue happening. After these initial complaints some of my friends, also Nexus One owners, have started to report similar issues. One such friend says that his home screen icons will stop displaying leaving him with only his background to look at after pressing the home key. Another friend says that he must reboot his phone every day, at least once a day, due to his keyboard not working. In general, though, the internet does not seem to have any reports of these kinds of issues outside of my few friends. Have any other Android users out there noticed these or similar issues with Gingerbread? Does anyone know of any possible causes?

Does android switch to a different APN when in hotspot mode?
I've tried turning on the portable hot-spot mode on my nexus-one and got a message from my operator saying that my plan doesn't cover data traffic made through the `web.operator.com` APN, as opposed to `mobile.operator.com` (my "usual" APN). I've tried turning on the portable hot-spot mode on my nexus-one and got a message from my operator saying that my plan doesn't cover data traffic made through the web.operator.com APN, as opposed to mobile.operator.com (my "usual" APN). That made me curious. Does that mean that android switches APNs when the hot-spot feature is active? And if so, is this a built-in feature/configuration option or an operator customization? **Update** No, the phone doesn't switch to a different APN, but I'm still not sure what triggered the message from my operator... **Update** There's kind of a persistent rumor that European Nexus-One phones get tweaked OSes, see the xda-developers forum threads [](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714747&highlight=vodafone) and [](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709449&highlight=vodafone) , or google nexus-one forums [](http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=7fd03026a89e3568&hl=en) and [](http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=71fe16740c60ebf0&hl=en) . One of the most likely tweaks seems to be the tagging of hotspot traffic, in order to be able to charge for it differently.

Even though 3G was on, there were no 3G icon appearing in the top bar. Before installing roms, I did a **wipe data/factory**, **wipe cache** and **format** **system** using ClockworkMod Recovery. My baseband version is 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04 How can i solve this ?
