Samsung A14 5G SM-S146VL from Tracfone (part of Verizon) was bought for cheap from QVC.
Phone was unlocked after 2 months of service using the code received from Tracfone.
US Mobile SIM card inserted.
Calls and SMS work.
Mobile data does not work.
When I go to the APN settings it shows "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".
"Add" option is greyed out.
"Reset to default" option under three dots is greyed out.
So, it seems like Verizon prohibited using their phones with other carriers even after unlocking them?
Any ways to solve this issue?
NO root, BL not unlocked.
Thank you!

My good old phone from 2013 is dying. I have been satisfied with it, but even if it was still sold nowadays, I would not buy more of the same since it’s becoming increasingly difficult to not have either an iOS or an Android phone. I don’t want iOS for reasons not pertaining to my question, so Android remains, however, constant internet access is blocking me.
There are a few reasons to disable mobile internet on one’s phone, but I’m not here to discuss these. I just want to be able to disable mobile internet.
There are tons of sites giving tutorials on how to do this, but as far as I’ve seen, none gives a correct reply, because :
1. Either they provide steps on how to disable mobile data, which indeed disables mobile internet, but MMS too in the process
2. Or give a per-app solution, which won’t really completely block all mobile internet traffic, let’s be honest
A few years ago, someone with a Huawei phone asked me for help on this very subject, and I was indeed able to help him, by defining explicitly which APN was for what, keeping only the MMS role for the MMS-only APN and removing everything else. And it worked.
But things may have changed, and I certainly don’t want to buy a phone only to find it’s now impossible. If it’s become impossible indeed, then well, despite the drawbacks I will definitely get an oldie.
**So, more concisely :**
- How can I disable mobile internet ?
- Not per-app, system-wide
- MMS shall remain enabled
- Android 12+ (I suppose that’s what all new phones are running nowadays)
- I’m not afraid of using
adb
and going through a shell
- No third party programs
- Jailbreaking/rooting is a big no no, if I have to fight against the phone vendor, then I better buy somewhere else
- Which brands leave it possible ?
- Which brands block it ?

However, for some reason, the option to add one is missing from my phone. There is no + sign and the 3 dots doesn't bring up an option to add an APN. The current APNs can't be edited as well. I've attached screenshots as well.
I downloaded myAPN but it didn't work on my phone and I'm not sure what else to do. Would really appreciate any help with this as I'm quite stuck and have tried everything.

I have tried:
1. Installing APN backup & restore app, setting as a system app in Titanium Backup and moving to the priv-app folder. Then deleting all APNs, resetting the phone. Still can't add an APN.
2. Creating a basic APN record, without all of the settings. That saves so that I can see it in APN list screen but when I update the record to include all of the settings it disappears again.
3. Looking at the apns-conf.xml file. There are loads of settings in here, but I'm not sure what this file does.

I'm getting my phone service through a medium sized company in my country, which means they have their own LTE network (called ice+). With my current plan I have practically free use of this network, but in the cases I can't find that network, my phone will automatically connect to their backup one (called ice, which I believe they access through a cooperation with a larger company), of which I have a small limit on data usage. This has been working out great for the past half year, but recently my phone has started changing the network operator from ice+ to ice randomly, even though I know it has access to ice+ (it will change to and stay on ice when I'm at home, even though the phone has been lying in the same place the whole time). Even if I manually select ice+ (which takes a few minutes to find because of searching), the phone will automatically change back to ice without me touching it at all.
Because of this I need a way to lock my phone to ice+, so I won't have to deal with restricted access and high bills, which should be completely unnecessary. Does someone know how I could do that, if there's something I can change in the APN settings, or maybe some app I can download that will do it for me? Even something that will check the network and automatically change back to ice+ would be okay, if not as convenient.
For reference I use an LG G6.

This was probably an issue before but only became an issue when I changed providers in a foreign country. Running CM12.1 nightlies.
I can't connect to data and get the above message when I try to manually enter the APN settings.
I have tried:
1. The other fix on this site to change permission in
com.android.providers.telephony
to **660** from **751** but that resulted in non-stop error messages from the phone app.
2. Upgrade to the latest nightly with the new SIM inside. No change in service or in ability to change APN
3. Delete the data and cache for the settings app
4. Wipe cache and Dalvik cache.

An Access Point Name, APN, is a gateway between mobile networks and the public Internet.
I've done research, and there's not much online about what the individual settings are or do.
This is what I've managed to figure out so far, listed in the order they appear on an Android phone.
Settings in **bold** I do not have a good answer for. Please tell me the setting's "full name" and what it does. If you know of a site that lists these out and describes them please share it. Thank you!
----------
1. Name: User given label that doesn't actually affect anything. It can be anything.
2. **APN:** Stands for Access Point Name I guess? Usually, this is a short single word and ALL CAPS for some reason. No idea what this does.
3. **Proxy:** Is this for using a regular proxy server or something mobile specific?
4. **Port:** Port for the proxy? 80 by default?
5. Username: Credentials to use the carrier.
6. Password: Credentials to use the carrier.
7. Server: Found out this is for a WAP Gateway Server - kind of like a proxy except that it also translates/decodes web pages.
8. **MMSC:** A URL to send MMS messages to? What does MMSC stand for?
9. **MMS proxy:** Why does there need to be a proxy? Why not just send it to the MMSC directly?
10. **MMS port:** Why is this here, won't it always be 80?
11. **MCC:** Mobile Country Code - I believe this specifies to the cell phone towers which network to default to. Why would they need to know this?
12. **MNC:** Mobile Network Code - tells the towers what carrier is being used?
13. **Authentication type:** Port to send the Username & Password over?
14. **APN type:** So instead of IP port numbers mobile networks use "port names" to specify the data type. So if you put "default, mms" then those communication protocols will be used. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
15. APN protocol: Whether to use IPv4 or IPv6.
16. APN roaming protocol: Roaming is using another carrier company's service. This specifies what IP type to use when doing so.
17. APN enable/disable: For when multiple APN's are on the phone. Allows one to pick a certain configuration.
18. **Bearer:** What does this do?
19. **MVNO type:** Mobile Virtual Network Operator - a reseller carrier that uses one of the larger (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile) carriers. This option can be either None, SPN, IMSI, GID, or ICCID. Tells the major carrier what the reseller is I think.
20. **MVNO value:** The number given to the reseller?

So my gf and I both have the Xiaomi Mi A2, her works perfectly, but when I tried to setup mine, I realized I had no data connection.
In order to make it work with my provider, I must configure a new custom APN but for some reason, the button to add a new one is missing. I´ve checked, however, my gf's mobile, despite being apparently the same in every aspect, she has such button.
Then I thought there must be some differences between both devices operating system's version, so I wonder if is there a way to compare both to check what I'm missing in order to have the option that I need?
If not, any way to fix this would be really appreciated.
Thank you in advance

However, now android seems to ignore my set proxy - after hitting Save it disconnects from 3G for a few seconds (I have no internet access), and then it connects again as usual.
To check it I also set a fake proxy (fake address/port) and it doesn't fail to connect - it just ignores my settings.
I have Android 5.0.2, so I tried to find some info about lollipop having this issue but with no luck. Maybe someone can confirm it, or has some sort of a solution?

I have a TicWatch Pro 4G. As some may know, the watch only supports Vodafone. But from what I have seen, that's mostly down to the fact of the correct APN for other networks not being available. After looking in the usual places like /system/etc/apns-conf.xml, I found most APNs to be present there. However, the menu to choose the APN is always empty. After a lot of digging, I found this thread on here:
https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/170634/where-apn-configs-are-saved-in-android/170656
In there, it is mentioned that there is such a thing called "ApnSourceService". However, there is basically no information available on this except that thread and some mentions in the source code, one of them being in the TelephonyProvider.
In that thread, it was said, that one can disable such a Service using Magisk. However, I found no information on which service that might be, or where to find any clues. Also I looked into system-apks to find any mention, but I didn't find something useful.
I also tried listing running services, but at least I didn't find something useful in there.
Also I'm not really a professional, it might well be I'm completely on the wrong path with the "ApnSourceService".
Thanks for any help

I own a Samsung Galaxy A71 and I'm on Reliance Jio network.
When I had bought this phone and put a new Jio SIM on it, my mobile data worked fine, but the hotspot didn't. My laptop browser said 'DNS not found' or something along those lines. I solved it by updating APN settings.
Fast forward to eight months.
Right now it's the exact opposite. My mobile data works very rarely. I get maybe a bar of signal at best. On 4G network I get 20-30 Kbps. A WhatsApp message goes through after 10 min. But if I connect my laptop through the hotspot, suddenly the data works seamlessly without any problems. A YouTube video on the laptop at 720p can load without any buffers, the same cannot be said on the app in my phone.
Any idea why this would happen? Something to do with the APN? Or something with the network?
Also, the JIO tower is right next to my house. Why would I get only a bar of signal?

I also read the comments to the question https://android.stackexchange.com/q/212209/302598 but the deleting
/system/etc/apns-conf.xml
dosn't help and I don't have the /system/app/telephony
as well as /system/CarrierConfig.apk
and /system/SettingsProvider.apk
, maybe because I use Android 4.0.4 (?).
I know that to disable Wi-Fi it's enough to obtain root permissions and rename the folder /wifi
inside of the /etc
to another e.g. /wif
. Can we do something like that to permanenlty disable also mobile data for example by renaming some directories or files or edit some file(s)?

I have been provided a device for a telephone carrier that cannot be joined automatically. When the Sim is inserted into another phone, it cannot find/connect to the network. Due to the nature of the network I am on, and given I was supplied the phone from the telephone carrier, I believe its customized in some way.
I want to use this network and sim card, but on a better phone (Razer Phone 2).
Is there some mechanism I can use to transfer all settings from one phone to the other, including whatever secret settings the carrier may have setup prior to handing out the devices?
