I want to transmit and receive custom wireless data by using Android's baseband. So the question remains: - How to do it? - Is that true that the baseband operates on separate SoC & separate firmware? - If the baseband operates on different firmware, then can it be changed? - As we know, OTA updates exist on Android, so it means it's possible to upload a different firmware. But, is it possible to change the baseband firmware using a Cable-USB-PC method or not? Case 2: if the baseband shares the same storage unit with the main OS, then it could be easier, but where to locate the firmware, what does the firmware extension look like, converting binary files to relative files? Scenario 3: We can modify the stock ROM which contains baseband firmware. The stock ROM file contains baseband firmware which can be edited/modified or replaced with custom firmware, then we can upload it to the phone. There could be multiple cases. Please help me. I have experience in coding, custom Android firmware cooking, mobile rooting, extracting firmware of TVs/routers, etc. Please remember my ultimate goal is to transmit and receive wireless custom data using a built-in Android baseband radio chip.

In a SIM, there are several lists used by the phone to know which network it has to try to register to. The lists are updated when the mobile device tries to register under the mobile network of a foreign operator. If a mobile network is included in a list of forbidden networks, the mobile device doesn't try to register to that network. Some not-exhaustive examples: - Forbidden PLMNs for GPRS service - 5GS forbidden tracking areas for roaming - Forbidden tracking areas for roaming - Forbidden location areas for roaming - ... The list update is done on the basis of the answer the mobile device gets from the foreign network during the registration phase or after the registration through a message called OTA (Over the Air). TelephonyManager provides a method to get the list of forbidden PLMNs (getForbiddenPlmns): is it a complete list of all the operators included in all the lists in the SIM (see list above), or is it only the list of Forbidden PLMNs for which the mobile phone received a Roaming not Allowed answer to the registration trial?

So now i want to: 1. replace my current EFS partitions via Termux/Terminal emulator app. 2. replaced EFS should also sync with modem without any reboot. **I have successfully done above via Fastboot and Recovery but that i don't want to.** **My Findings:** I found EFS and modem partitions are mounted as modemst1, modemst2, modem and fsg etc in /dev/block/ and /dev/block/by-name. But replacing them via Termux won't make any difference to actual EFS partitions. Also after reboot these again gets re-created/replaced. But if i replace all these partitons via Recovery/Fastboot then it make actual permanent changes to EFS partitions and sync with modem and also sustain reboot.

I searched the internet for a solution, but I couldn't find anything except for some apps which didn't work (or only worked in the app itself but outside did nothing). Is there a config file with the microphone volume so I can adjust it myself or some script or so? If I visit call logs in my mobile, I can see My friend's number in the log. I was having this issue for past 4 days. Thankfully, I checked the logfile(log.txt which resides in phone memory somewhere. I understand [what Android permissions mean](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/38388/what-do-android-application-permissions-mean) and I have a specific question about two telephony permissions. I've been using [XPrivacy](https://github.com/M66B/XPrivacy) for a while and noticed that many apps that ostensibly have nothing to do with the low-level telephony features, nevertheless make repeated calls to [getSimOperatorName()](http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/TelephonyManager.html#getSimOperatorName()) and [getNetworkOperatorName()](http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/TelephonyManager.html#getNetworkOperatorName()) . MyFitnessPal Calorie Counter is one such app. What need would ordinary apps have to call these methods? For example, why would MyFitnessPal care I'm using AT&T or Verizon, when the app could be running just fine on a Wi-Fi only device?

I would like to leave a tablet on my shelf and be able to video call into it while away and talk/hear/see my home without anyone necessarily being there, just to be able to check in. I have looked for auto-answer settings in Skype and Hangouts. The situation is that I have a baby I'm going to leave in my home with her grandmother, and other sitters and relatives, and I don't want to have to teach them except to say that I'll check in via video sometimes. This way I shouldn't ever disturb the peace with phone ringtone sounds, nor have to wait for someone to pick up, nor have to wonder why they didn't pick up. Skype has auto-answer, but it doesn't turn on video from the receiver. What else can I try? I haven't installed *everything* in the Play store…

Tried plugging the dongle into my android phone (Galaxy A40, Android 10, 4.4.177-18598463) via an OTG cable and the headphones work with the media output. But for calls *in Skype and Teams* the sound goes to the phone's speaker. I guess there might be a standard with these 2.4 GHz wireless headphone dongles because it just works with Android with no additional apps or drivers. What is the name of the standard? Is there a way to make calls with an Android with these headphones? **Edit:** I think the headset gets detected as a USB headset (I checked using the "Device Info HW" app), so the question becomes how do I configure Android to use the USB headset for calls (Skype, Teams).

I have a TicWatch Pro 4G. As some may know, the watch only supports Vodafone. But from what I have seen, that's mostly down to the fact of the correct APN for other networks not being available. After looking in the usual places like /system/etc/apns-conf.xml, I found most APNs to be present there. However, the menu to choose the APN is always empty. After a lot of digging, I found this thread on here: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/170634/where-apn-configs-are-saved-in-android/170656 In there, it is mentioned that there is such a thing called "ApnSourceService". However, there is basically no information available on this except that thread and some mentions in the source code, one of them being in the TelephonyProvider. In that thread, it was said, that one can disable such a Service using Magisk. However, I found no information on which service that might be, or where to find any clues. Also I looked into system-apks to find any mention, but I didn't find something useful. I also tried listing running services, but at least I didn't find something useful in there. Also I'm not really a professional, it might well be I'm completely on the wrong path with the "ApnSourceService". Thanks for any help

Is there some kind of app or service that notifies me, if I cannot be reached by phone? WiFi is available, so it wouldn't be sufficient to just ping an internet server. Any other ideas? Phone is a Samsung Galaxy E5 SM-E500m (lte, dual chip, codename e5lte). Android version 5.1.1 "lollipop" Stock ROM. I pulled the database file from /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db and tried to inspect it with both the DB Browser for SQLite and also the sqlite3 command-line tool. The file is 1.7MiB in size. It has 42 tables. From my research efforts, I was hoping to be able to see the call log in the calls table; but it is empty (0 records). Other tables in this db file all appear to have data. I also checked the file over /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db but it does not appear to contain call logs (only 4 tables: android_metadata, carriers, siminfo and sqlite_sequence). Where else can I potentially find the call logs for this device? The call log is shown correctly in the Phone app. Thank you.

My phone (Micromax Q415) attached to the SIM card operator megaphone. If I insert a SIM card of another operator, the phone will ask for the unlock key. I found an application that shows this screen and decompiling it. I want to modify this application so that it performs a brute force attack locally. Each entry attempt occurs with a fake delay, which I already lost. Now you need to know where are the attempts to enter the NCK password. I tried to backup the entire system, spent one try, performed a backup restore. But the attemts can not be restored! Where are these attempts? In the course of this application I saw that the number of attempts is taken from the telephony-common.jar. But I did not find where this request goes.

In CyanogenMod 13, I've removed all telecom/telephony/GPS support from a ROM in an effort to reduce the device to basically be a wifi-only mini tablet. This entailed removing all relevant apps and a few libraries. The ROM boots fine after removal, but lockscreen, security, and privacy aren't accessible in the settings; settings crashes when attempts are made to access any of them. On previous versions of CyanogenMod on the same and another device this didn't happen, but then again I've updated the script I use to be more comprehensive as I discover new parts of the system that address telephony. I've cross referenced the options in each settings subsection with the apps and libraries removed, and there seems to be zero crossover. Nothing in privacy, lockscreen, or security references GPS or telephony in any way. I've done some tests to replace removed apps to try and do a process of elimination, but there are a lot of apps the script I use removes. I've only gotten through two or three of them so far, but none of them restored access. The obvious one seemed like it would be dialer.apk, but allowing that one did nothing. Anyone know: 1. what telephony/GPS apps are required to run the aforementioned settings 2. what the reasoning is behind this counter-intuitive entanglement, and 3. how to maybe rebuild the ROM so that these apps and libs aren't required to access the full settings?

I have a Sprint HTC One (m7wls) and recently switched over to Ting. I was using Cyanogenmod and couldn't use Ting's instructions for activating with them, so I used an RUU from HTC to get back to stock. Now I can follow the reset instructions, but they don't seem to be working. When I enter # # 72786 # I can see some fields (MDN, MSID, M.IP Customer Profile...). Not sure how important it is, but the MDN and MSID show 'No' rather than any info. So then I tap 'Reset' in the menu, and the phone reboots but then that's it. No more activation activities happen on their own from there. I can continue to Update Profile and Update PRL in settings and that will get me a 4G connection, but still no cellular network (no texting or calling and no bars). Using code # # 3282 # gets me into a more advanced menu where I can see more fields (other than MSID and MDN) and alot of them say 'No'. I have that Slot Mode is enabled, but there's a 'No' under Slot Index. Mobile Country Code and Access Overload Class also say 'No'. I'm not sure what they all are, but I thought I'd mention them incase they help point to a bigger problem. I'm guessing that part of the problem is the missing my MDN and MSID numbers, so I've been focused on getting those configured. I've tried using these menus to set the values (just MDN and MSID at first, but I've also tried once with just the Slot Index) and every time I tap 'Commit Modifications' in the menu to save it I see a toast that says 'Commit Failed'. Using captured logs from logcat and a decompiled version of the EPST I think I've found that it won't save anything because the Telephony interface indicates that the radio is still on when it's about to save. I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts are explanations of how things work. I'm going to try a rooted stock ROM that will let me get into the EPST app. If I still see the same problems then I'm going to write an app that will let me turn off the radio (hence, the *rooted* stock) before trying to set the MDN and MSID. But I'm still worried about all those 'No's and am wondering if those will have to be set too before network connection will start to work.
