After updating my UK HTC Sensation to Android 4.0 I was keen to try out Face Unlock. I'm happy to say that it works *reasonably* well, however the setup process has led to me having a query. When setting up face lock, after your face has been captured for the first time and setting up your backup access, you are given the following prompt: > #You've Finished! To unlock your phone, just look at it. >*Tip: Improve face matching by having your face captured in different conditions* The tip sounds good, however it doesn't actually tell you how to have your face captured in different conditions! After clicking OK to the prompt you are returned to the security menu and any attempt to re-set-up face unlock just seems to over-write your previous settings (or at least I assume it does as it asks you to set up a new backup system). How can I recapture my face multiple times to improve face recognition?

I have a problem with the mail (not gmail) app on my HTC Sensation, that I'm guessing is part of HTC Sense 3. I'm using a server that has an untrusted certificate, and every time I try to refresh my email a dialog requesting the certificate to be accepted pops up. The problem is that when I try to send an email from that account the messages get stuck in the outbox until I manually refresh the mail forcing the certificate to be accepted again. Is there any way of storing the known/already-accepted certificates for the mail app? Thanks!

Friend of mine gave me HTC sensation XL with android 2.3.5 and asked one question: why I can't install any app from market? I understand that device and adroid version are old enough for mid of 2016. But I can not find out what is exact problem. I've tried to clear cache/data/etc of market app and etc hundred times but no luck. Market doesn't say that your device is incompatible or doesn't support anymore, just stucking on download process. Otherwise some "base" apps were updated normally. Also I've tried to download some data directly from browser and it was ok. So, all I want a small message that I own old piece of... hardware.

*Recently my nice old HTC Sensation broke. Only 1-2 few weeks later, when I had a new one already, I managed to resurrect it by just using a different back cover. Since I didn't find the particular symptoms anywhere else on the internet, I decided to post the problem here and to answer it myself so that it might help anybody to recover his data when seeing similar symptoms.* --- **History of my HTC Sensation**: 16 months ago, it got wet in the rain and stopped working for at least some days. I guess this is relevant because the contacts probably started corroding then. I bought another broken phone of the same model, hoping I could replace some parts, but two weeks later, when I came around to do that, it worked again. This year, the phone more and more often suddenly rebooted, and about two weeks ago, it was stuck in a frozen state where the system buttons below the display were lit but the power button wouldn't work, so I had to remove the battery in order to reboot it. This happened once more and this time, after connecting the charging cable, reinserting the battery, and powering on it did nothing but **vibrating in regular intervals**: it vibrated every 18.4 seconds but the display stayed black. Again, this could only be stopped by removing the battery. I brushed the contacts a little and the next time it booted fine. One day later this happened again and this time no brushing helped. At that time I haven't tried recovery mode since I didn't know about it yet. So I was sure this is a hardware problem and the phone is predestined to die finally soon, but what can I do now to make it boot at least once more so that I can backup or transfer my data to another phone? Brush the contacts even harder?

I pressed Power button once, choosing **FASTBOOT** FASTBOOT My phone connected to Windows, but this time device was **not recognized**. Unknown Device I tried to add drivers for that device manually, but it failed Failed drivers I even tried to add **%MyHTC%=HTCAND32.Dev, USB\UNKNOWN** to **androidusb.inf** and then add driver manually, but device was not working anyway and **fastboot devices** command returned empty list. I tried same operations on my Mac using fastboot-mac for that and i got same result as on Windows - device is not recognized in fastboot mode. Any ideas?

I have a broken HTC Sensation with a forensics lab who are trying to recover the data from the phone's internal memory chip. The technician says he is unable to recover the data on the chip because the chip itself is MMC password protected. This is the first time he has ever encountered this on an internal memory chip. He added that he was mystified as to how an internal memory chip could become MMC password protected in the first place. I should add that this phone belongs to me. It is not nor was it ever password protected. Can anyone here offer any guidance on solving this problem? I simply refuse to believe that HTC have for the first time in the history of civilisation, created a perfect security measure and then installed it into a mid-price mobile phone handset. Many thanks

I have a problem with my HTC Sensation that I think is either due to problems with the electronics that interfaces to the battery or a memory problem. Basically the phone turns off spontaneously by itself every now and then. Very often - as far as I can see - when the CPU is running 100% (and hence there are a big battery drain)... Turning on the phone again can easily take 2-3 turns before it is running stable (until next time). It seems to be starting first time though if connected to power... If this occurred on a Windows PC, I would first download a hardware test/diagnostics application and see whether this could find anything... ...but for all the usual security reasons, the Android platform is way more closed than the PC/Windows platform and I suspect that it is not so easy to install a diagnostics app to test the hardware. So... how do you go about this then? Short of using a full-blown hardware analyser, which I don't have access to :-) [Note that I have rooted my device and don't mind flashing a new ROM if needed...]

I've tried doing the same test with each individual device and each pair of them but the result is the same. Any ideas why this is happening?

Please try again. The actual stack trace shows the error to be: > java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to create application com.google.android.app.TabletBooksApplication: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Expected a directory for path: /data/data/com.google.android.apps.books/cache/logs/null_account at android.app.ActivityThread... I didn't consciously choose to install this application, it just seems to be part of the android application set. I'm assuming the null_account bit is the problem but have no idea how to go about correcting this.

I've been having an issue with my apps where an error "Package file is invalid " keeps appearing. I read a tutorial somewhere which told me to "uninstall updates" for the Google Play Store application. I was told doing this would uninstall the application, and then the device would automatically reinstall Google Play Store. I did this, restarted my phone, but the application never reappeared. I think tried downloading an .apk file to install this manually, but on install the application wouldn't load. Has anyone done this before? How can I reinstall this application? I believe I need it for all future downloads and updates to my applications. For the record, my phone is **not** rooted.

I have a HTC Sensation running Android 4.0.3 (HTC Sense 3.6, 3.33.401.53). Of late I've been having increasing problems with global lag, however this is really most noticeable on the dialler/phone app itself. By more noticeable, I mean several times worse compared to anything else. I can open the contacts menu in the dialler without difficulty and filter by name to get the number I want up, however I get no response when I click the name (aside from a green flash of it to indicate I've pressed sucessfully). There's then a pause of I would say up to a minute in the worst cases before it actually dials. Usually I've pressed it multiple times in the hope of it working, whereupon it calls the person multiple times and I end up with several calls to the same person 'on hold'. Is there any known cause for this or *even better* any likely way to fix it? I could do a factory reset if this doesn't get resolved as it makes the phone close to unusable. The effect isn't really on answering calls, though there is a lag on that too (but not to anywhere near the degree).

Whilst I am a complete n00b to it, I would not be unwilling to root the device if it could solve my problem (if it's even possible at this stage). Cheers.

I have HTC Sensation 4G. I have a very peculiar issue with the battery. I've been using the phone for just over one year now. There are some periods (about 7 to 15 days) when battery performance is absolutely fine. But then after certain days of good performance battery starts behaving weirdly: Phone gets switched off even at over 60% battery. Restarting it shows about 5% battery, again switches off, restart shows around 20% etc. So I guessed there is some calibration issue. **Taking out the battery at the time of this erratic behavior makes it work fine for a little while** (half an hour to a couple of hours) then again the stupidity starts. I have tried draining the battery to 0% and then a full charge, tried various usage models (not using wifi, disabling animations to reduce usage etc.) nothing seems to work. I can't properly debug this issue properly as connecting to computer starts charging and when its charging there are no such issues. This is **REALLY** frustrating, Any one has any idea how to debug it? (I have come to know that certain batch of HTC sensation has this issue, not everyone has experienced similar problems but there are people and no one has been able to point me in the right direction)
