Occasionally (maybe twice a month) my **Milestone** just reboots (goes black and then to the Android start-up screen, but not all the way to the Motorola screen). I presume that such behaviour could be caused a poorly written app. I have uninstalled a few but to no avail. Is there any sort of log that I could pull which would shed some light on this or even a dump file? Could this restarting issue be caused by something else? I am currently running **Android 2.1** (no OTA update available for me, yet) on a Milestone and have had this problem since I bought it in December (when it was 2.0).

I bought it at Amazon.com, and had it delivered to a friend's house in Massachusetts. I flew to the US, visit my friend, did some tourism, and brought the phone back with me to Brazil, where I put in my GSM chip and it works just fine. Here is the phone info: - Model number: Milestone - Firmware version: 2.1-update1 - Firmware configuration version: GAS_EMEA_USASHLS00RTINT_P012 The box says: SM,A853,TR,RETAIL,LICBRZ So, I should be waiting for an update for what? Europe, like it says in this thread ? Or Latin America? Or can I get 2.2 safely from somewhere else? The software looks pretty American to me. What if I follow the instructions from this site ? Do I risk bricking my phone?

Is it possible to record a video as avi or mp4?
I've recently bought a Motorola Milestone 2 (Froyo) and I see that when I record a video it produces a .3gp file. Is there a way to have it produce an avi or mp4 instead? Would I have to root the phone?

New Facebook app activates GPS when launched -- how to disable?

This started happening with the latest Facebook app update. I don't want to disable my GPS outright -- I like that it comes up automatically when I call Google Maps. (Which usually is in a "where the hell am I" situation.) But I see no valid reason to allow Facebook to query where I am all the time. Facebook's settings don't have an option to disable this. Since my phone (Milestone I) is rooted (but still with Motorola's official 2.2.1 OS), I wonder if there's some app through which I could enable/disable GPS usage per app. Is there such a thing? (If there is, I'd like to disable it in the browser too.)

I have an Android Phone (a Motorola Milestone) and trying to connect it to my Ubuntu Maverick (10.10). The problem is that i can't even charge it using USB, so there's no message on the phone nor on the computer that a device has been connected. I also have a Laptop running Ubuntu Maverick aswell and there I can access the phone via USB. I already created the 51-android.rules file with the according settings, but it didn't work. And I guess this rules-file doesnt matter in this case, because my laptop doesn't event have this file. Other USB devices like external hard drives can be used as usual, the USB cable itself can't be the problem, because I can use it on my laptop and it works. I really don't know what the problem could be. It is also not listet in lsusb on my computer. Did anybody have a similar problem? Thank you in advance for any help!

The stock media player on my phone has an annoying behaviour. Whenever I unplug the headphones, if the media player is paused or not running, it immediately starts running and playing my playlist. This is very annoying because everyone in the room is forced to listen to my songs until I manage to tap (twice) the Music Widget. Has this been happening to anyone else? And what did you do to fix it? *Note: I'm not sure if it's Android's stock player or if it's Motorola's stock player, it's just called "Music". Note 2: From the comments, it seems this is Android's stock music app.* **Motorola-Milestone, firmware 2.1-update1.**

I have a Motorola Milestone, and I've come to learn that it has a relatively low memory (runtime memory, not storage capacity). The problem that comes with this is that whenever too many apps want to run in the background, the android system starts killing stuff, and with my Milestone that happens very easily. That wouldn't be so bad, if it weren't for the fact that android seems to think the home launcher is the least important app of all (which is absurdly wrong). For instance, right now I have a series of apps poluting the background, some important (like *Swype*) and some pointless (like *Facebook*). If I open up even a simple app like *Messages* or *Contacts* or *Settings* the homelauncher gets killed in the background. Once I press the Home button, I am greeted with an empty home screen, and have to wait around 1 or 2 minutes for everything to load again. This happens with all home launchers I tried, though it happens more easily with the heavier ones. So far, I managed to live with this behavior by religiously avoiding apps that run in the background (as well as widgets). But this solution is not perfect. It still happens more often than I'd like. Is there a way to change android's priorities when it comes to killing background apps? But why does the home launcher rank lower than *Google Maps*' location service **and** *Facebook*'s (inactive) uploader **and** everything else? I want the home launcher to be last thing that gets killed when memory is low, or as close to last as possible (e.g. it obviously can't rank higher than the currently active app, but you get my point). I currently have Cyanogen mod 6 installed, but it also happened on the stock android OS, and I am willing to install absolutely **ANY** custom ROM to solve this issue.

A pretty funny and tricky situation: I've got a Motorola Milestone with almost completely not working display. I know that it was a fall that probably damaged some cabling inside and now display only shows some colorful garbage on the top 5-7 mm section and everything else is dark or almost dark. Everything else seems to be working on this phone: i.e. touchscreen is working (for example, I can blindly unlock the phone - according to haptic feedback, it unlocks), hardware keyboard is working, sound is working, etc. I want to send it to service center, but I want to wipe sensitive phone contents (i.e. messages, contacts) first. I also know that this phone was flashed with Cyanogenmod 7 for Milestone and OpenRecovery. USB connection yields proper USB storage device with inserted MicroSD card exported on it. What I've tried: * My first instinct was to use USB debugging, just logging into the phone with adb shell and then running something like recovery --wipe_data. Alas, it doesn't work - this phone doesn't seem to have USB debugged turned on. Without any visual feedback, I guess I have no chances to travel through all the menus (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging) to enable it. * My another attempt was to log into recovery (given that this phone has OpenRecovery, it should be a breeze to use it to wipe the phone or at least access USB debugging bridge). While pressing "Camera" on power on seems to be working to get that "triangle" screen (at least I don't seem to get regular boot), I find myself struggling to press VolUp+Camera to get to recovery menu and then blindly selecting any items in probable recovery menu. May be a good visual guide with screenshots would help me here? * My last attempt was using Google's Play settings to control this phone to remotely install some sort of remote control application - but, alas, it seems that this phone is long gone from my Google account. What I've also thought of: * Going to fastboot. Alas, it seems that Milestone does not have fastboot. * Making screenshots to get some visual feedback. Long press on "power" seems to show some kind of 6 items menu, but when I select last menu item (I thought it's "Screenshot") * Installing something using SD card - such as creating custom "install.zip" in SD card root with clever instructions to install remote controlling software - but, alas, I don't know anything about these mechanics. So, anyone has any more ideas what can I do, given these funny limitations?

I don't mind giving it away rooted, but if it wipes out the Superuser application (hence allowing any app to enter root mode unchecked) would be very very bad. If it erases that app while leaving it rooted, can I just re-download the .apk and reinstall it afterwards? Or does that procedure unroot the phone? That would be OK too. It's a Milestone 1 with Motorola's official 2.2 update. I just rooted it so I could use the ClockSync and Screenshot apps.

I am going to buy a new MicroSD card for my Motorola Milestone. The phone has Cyanogenmod 7. The upper limit as told by the manufacturer is 32GB, and because they got cheaper now, I'm going to buy the maximum possible. However, there are those new types of cards called “Ultra High Speed” which, I believe, weren't available when the phone came out. Questions: Will those cards work with my device? Do they need any special support from the OS? Will I benefit from extra speed?

I have a Milestone and sometimes when I plug my (supplied Motorola) charger in the 'charging light' on the side does not illuminate and the phone does not charge. I think that this may also happen even after a successful initial connection (i.e. after plugging it in and getting the light) since occasionally I have unplugged the phone in the morning, after an overnight charge, and it is only 30% full (rather than the expected 100%). This problem is intermittent and sometimes rights itself but other times I need to reboot the phone. I have replaced the cable, and still have the same issue, so it is unlikely to be due to a faulty cable. This happens both when charging it from a wall socket or a USB port. Does anybody else have this problem? Or maybe have an idea of what it could be? *edit:* Faulty hardware may be the cause... I have seen similar posts about people having intermittent problems connecting their Milestones to USB ports, so I'm curious that this may be either a generic bug or a generic hardware fault, rather than just my phone.

im using a Motorola Milestone. I have tried to connect to various bluetooth devices (laptops/other android phone) with this phone but none of them work. I can pair them But after pairing it says "Paired but not connected" I have tried all normal steps: Soft reset, Hard reset etc and the phone is running the latest OS 2.2.1 Intrestingly, If I download the application "Bluetooth File transfer" by medieval software - I can succesfully pair and connect via this application to my macbook and send files. However, for my purpose I need to use the bluetooth SPP profile off the phone (Which it claims to support). So the question here is, Is it a software/hardware issue? -Seems to me like a software issue, because It doesnt connect with my macbook with the official bluetooth settings menu, but works through a third party application? any fixes? - I called motorola, but no luck as Im not in the states. Every so often, my phone (Motorola Milestone, firmware 2.1-update1) decides that the battery is almost drained and that I have to turn the phone off. This may happen just a few hours after charging it, and a subsequent restart confirms that yes, the battery does still have a charge, still at 70-80% capacity. This tends to happen every few weeks, and it's been happening basically ever since I bought the phone a few months ago, so I'm pretty sure it's not a charge memory issue, especially when combined with the fact that the problem is intermittent and very infrequent. Does anyone know why this might happen, and what I could do to fix it?

I rooted my Motorola Milestone 2.1-update1 with the latest beta of Universal Androot , and it seems to have worked fine. I've installed busybox, used titanium backup, and installed a couple root-only apps. Now I'm thinking about using ROM Manager to see what custom ROMs can be installed. However, I'm worried because I've read the milestone has some sort of lock in the bootloader, and I never actually unlocked the bootloader while rooting it. Am talking sense? **Will I run into problems if I simply install ROM Manager and try to install a custom ROM?** Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that rooting and unlocking are separate issues. And so I'm wondering if I don't have to unlock my phone before messing with ROM Manager.
