I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195) and successfully installed CyanogenMod 13 with the CM 13 Recovery on it. Now I am stuck with the installation of GApps by means of TWRP.
I have tried to follow this tutorial to install TWRP (3.0.1 or 2.8.7):
1) App Install Method: it tells me that something went wrong and it does not boot the recovery, indeed. What seems wired to me is that when I have to choose an image it shows me the device code **serranolteusc** and **serranoveltexx** for my S4 Mini rather than **serranoltexx**, like on the website of CM 13. Is this normal?
(I even tried Flashify instead of the TWRP manager, but it did not function!)
2) Since I am on Linux and have no Windows, I cannot use the Odin method. But I tried Heimdall via
heimdall flash --RECOVERY twrp.img --no-reboot
to no avail.
3) I tried the dd Install Method via dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
, but it still does not boot into recovery mode. Is it possible that there is an issue with the path in of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
?
Is it possible that there is no TWRP for **serranoltexx** available?

It currently does not show the screen like this when closed, but parts of the vanilla Cyanogenmod screen which does not help at all. Any ideas how to change that behaviour?

How do I make sure my notes and highlights from Google Play Books are saved when I factory reset my Android phone?
I need to unlock my Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini, Android ver. 4.2.2, and I'm not sure if the notes I took on my books using the Play Books app will still be there after the reset. I need all those notes for school and it would take forever to copy them all down.

Here's why I want the data: Although the android calendar app "syncs" with my Google calendar account (as in, events on my google calendar appear on my phone), any events that I added through the app on the mobile device do not get uploaded to my Google calendar. After a while, I realized that I should use the "Google Calendar" app instead of the default "Calendar" app that came with the phone. But I would like to export the events from the android calendar to my Google calendar. Is there an easy way to export the data from the Android calendar app to the Google calendar? It appears that at least one other person has had this problem .

I have a GT-I9195 running Lollipop 5.1.1 (currently PAC-ROM) which in theory has 8GB of internal memory. However, I can't seem to track down what exactly has happened to all that space. With a paltry 100 or so apps (including system essentials) installed, the phone starts reporting it's out of space until I move apps to the external MicroSD card. The problem persisted even through the custom ROM installation and subsequent recent ROM update as well as a few factory resets/cache wipes/etc. It's been an issue for nearly 8 months now, and periodically I've trawled the Internet for suggestions and clues but without making any real progress.
It seems to me as if a large chunk of space on the phone's memory is simply inaccessible and unused. Is this possible? How can I delve deeper into what's going on?
I've included the output of a df command in terminal emulator below. I notice that there seem to be duplicates of the internal memory /storage/emulated/0 and /storage/emulated/legacy (though I think one is just an alias of the other), and that they are both the same reported size as /data.
Storage Analyser reports 541.93MB of that 5.3GB is used by accessible files and 3.59GB used by "android/inaccessible files". This adds up to the 4.1GB which df claims is in use, but I can't understand what that 3.59GB is when every app which can be put on the external SD card is already on it, and I thought that the /system partition contained the OS itself and was not included in /data?
I've tried to get ES File Explorer to do its SD card analyst trick on the /data folder but without success, so it's not easy to probe it and find out how big each subfolder is.
I'd really like to get to the bottom of this... can anyone offer a suggestion as to what to try next?
**Edit:** also of interest to me is that I do have more than a gigabyte of space on the internal storage (/storage/emulated/0), but this is apparently unavailable for installing apps on. It holds DCIM and other random storagey things, and naturally freeing up space here doesn't allow me to install any more apps on the phone memory.

**Edit2:** I finally did some digging in /data by manually selecting directories and querying them with ES File Explorer. Thankfully this didn't take too long before I found the main culprits:
data/media 1.45 GB
data/data 1.11 GB
data/dalvik-cache 1.17 GB
data/app 642.57 MB
data/user 1.11 GB (this appears to be a symlink of data/data)
Investigating data/media, I discovered a **1GB backup file created by ClockWordMod recovery**, presumably when I first flashed the ROM. Moving it to my SD card has apparently recovered that space in /data, which is fab. **This has, presumably, been the main source of my problem** - that is, assuming this space is actually available for installation of apps now (not easy to check with this ROM other than by installing apps until I run out of space).
As for the other big directories: I can believe that data/app is the total size of my installed apps, and I guess there's no getting around the dalvik cache being so huge. I'd really love to dig into data/data and see what exactly is using so much space in there, but in ES File Explorer I have to manually select each folder and click properties to find out how big a directory is - a task for another time as I've been unable to find a utility to do this for me.

I'm currently trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, so to install CWM, I boot the device into download mode using my Linux Mint 17.2 laptop:
$ adb reboot bootloader
Now, as intended, my phone boots into download mode, yet fastboot doesn't recognize the device:
$ sudo fastboot devices
$ sudo fastboot continue
However, in
lsusb
, the phone clearly shows up:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04e8:685d Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd GT-I9100 Phone [Galaxy S II] (Download mode)
As you can see above, I run fastboot as root, so it certainly isn't a permission problem.
I can't find a solution anywhere on the internet, so any help is appreciated. If you need any further information, let me know.

I have Samsung S4 Mini phone which I bought about 10 months ago. I used to transfer my files from phone to my PC and vice versa without any trouble using the USB cable. Recently, I enabled the Developer Settings (by tapping the build number 7 times), turned on USB debugging mode. I could transfer files even after this.
After a few days, my PC stopped recognizing the USB. I don't see the the USB button in the notification panel. I get a notification - "*The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it*".
In the device manager, I find Other Devices under which I see "*Unknown Device*". If I disconnect my phone, I don't see this entry.
I had searched quite a lot on Google for the same, but couldn't come up with a resolution. In fact, I did factory reset as my last attempt on my own and still couldn't find any result. (Lost all my apps for no reason).
**Other Details:**
1. I tried connecting my friend's phone onto my PC with the same cable, his device was recognized.
2. And yes, the cable was provided by Samsung itself, which used to work in the past and now it is not working.
Some one, please help me in connecting my phone to laptop using USB.

A relative of mine brought me his *Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190*, which is stuck at boot. When I boot into recovery it gives the error
Failed to mount /system (invalid argument)
.
How can I dig through the file-system of an android phone which doesn't boot, except in Recovery? The goal is not to flash it but to recover the data if possible.
I don't mind rooting or flashing, but I don't want to overwrite the system partition that may still have the valuable info on it. I've managed to install clockworkmod according to these instructions .
**Is there a way to mount it, or expose the raw device to USB, or just back it up to SD, _without_ overwriting it?**
**EDIT:** Now I have Clockworkmod installed. Trying to use it to make a backup of /system
. It fails to mount /system
with the message:
mounting /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/b/system on /system failed: Invalid Argument
W:failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system (File exists)
**EDIT 2:** with ADB shell I looked into /system
, found an empty folder called bin
and removed it. Now mounting /system
fails with a longer error:
Error mounting /system!
W:failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system (File exists)

So this is a recent development since last night.. when the phone suddenly started misbehaving. Hanging, apps crashing, working really slow, screen going blank, Vol / Power key buttons not working etc.
Messages kept popping up that storage space is low.. with great difficulty managed to delete apps and other data. Images, audio, video etc. The instant I clear up and check storage it will indicate the appropriate amount - 200 mb, 300 mb...
However in a few seconds, the same issues of hanging reoccur, and upon checking storage I see that it has gone back down to 180 mb, 700 kb n finally now its showing 56 kb despite having removed more than 2 gb worth of data and apps. CACHE continually being deleted, best I can do since the phone is barely functioning, but it keeps filling up to about 1.84 mb (not that it matters).
Help! I cannot purchase a new phone as I do NOT have the funds for it.
I also get a pop up which goes something like
android.acore
stopped functioning. Sometimes "process system" stopped functioning
along with the usual pop ups of Whatsapp, Google apps, Touchwiz not functioning.

Device: Samsung Galaxy S4 mini [SCH-I435]
OS: Android 4.4.2
**Problem:**
When I try to open my browser (Chrome) it auto redirects to **us.councilors425qd.top/**.... and starts auto downloading **"Female for Portuguese (..."** [Voice data for text-to-speech]
while throwing up multiple un-closeable **popups**:
I can't seem to get rid of this issue. I've tried shutting off my device, clearing my data and even reinstalling Chrome. It keeps happening.
(By the way, this all started when I did a google search for "weather forecast Raleigh tomorrow" in my google search widget, which redirected me to Chrome and opened this mess... -_- )
Also, it finally successfully downloaded the "Female for Portuguese(..." voice data for text-to-speech (TTS) file, and now my phone just rattles off Portuguese non-stop. I've now muted my phone.
**2 questions:**
1. **How do I get rid of this terrible thing?**
2. **How do I find and delete the Portuguese TTS file???**
What else I've tried:
- I've already downloaded and ran Malwarebytes and Norton Antivirus,
neither of which found/did anything.
- I've done a search of my files using OIFileManager, but I could not
find the TTS file.
- I've checked the download history in Chrome, but it similarly shows
no evidence of the TTS file.
Note: Looks like [others had this problem in 2014](https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/447925-download-wont-stop-i-never-asked-help.html#post6190305) .

Any suggestions?
Details:
It was Android 4.2.2; the original OS in it when I bought it. Then one day I rooted it. I did not upgrade the OS. It was still the original TouchWiz on 4.2.2. (No CyanogenMod or anything....) Everything was fine for 1 year. Then one morning I clicked on a whatsapp message and my phone restarted & has gone into a bootloop.
I do not have an external SD card. I tried two different batteries, each works fine in another phone. I did not insert an SD card or SIM card during any of these processes.

I have here a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195). It has met a terrible fate on a parking lot, and is damaged beyond repair: broken screen and digitizer, battery bent out of shape.
Apart from these terrible wounds, it appears to still be working fine: it boots and vibrates, the side and home buttons work fine, and USB access is operational. In particular, I was able to backup all that I wanted using MTP.
We are going to buy a replacement of course (though finding a good 4.3" phone is not easy nowadays). **My question is: can I wipe this phone? If yes, how?**
Obviously, anything involving reading or touching the screen is a no-go: that part is truly fully dead. I am hoping I can access and blindly use some kind of boot menu using only the side keys, or that I can somehow perform that over USB, or that I can press or short some internal reset switch inside the phone.
(Software would preferably be run from Linux, but Windows 7 or 10 is also possible.)

I'm struggling with my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Actually the battery is very good and since I don't use my phone a lot, it lasts pretty much 2 days when I let it die and full recharge it.
The issue is, everytime I recharge it when the battery is not dead, the battery is draining very fast even though I don't use my phone.
As you can see, after I unplugged it, even though everything was off, the curve is plunging whereas when everything was off before the plug, it's almost horizontal.
Does anyone have an idea how can I fix it?

How to stop fallback from H+ to 3G data

**Is it possible, and if so how, to lock the phone to using H+ for data and not dropping back to 3G?** I suspect it isn't (firmware of the radio hardware I'm guessing) but there's times where I would be willing to take the battery hit to keep my data on H+ (specific application with data demands that doesn't like dropping back and forwards to 3G).
**I'm not talking about changes in signal quality:** I can be sitting in a single location, not moving, where both H+ and 3G are available. When data is being requested the phone typically goes to H+ as it is faster. Once the data demands reduce it drops back to 3G. I have read in a number of other places that this is on purpose to save battery. However my issue is that one app I use doesn't handle the transitions well so I'd like to stop the auto-fallback.
Android 4.2.2 on Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, Australian networks.
