**The problem** When I use my laptop, it always heats up a lot in the center above the touch bar on top. I can feel it quite heated below as well under the top center. The CPU is fine (no processes going crazy). Fans are not really loud at all and I suspect they are working below the speed they should be. This was an issue when I bought it as well. **SMC reset** I did (multiple) SMC resets when I first bought, as this was an issue straight away. After the reset it worked fine for a few weeks and then I'd do another reset. A year and a half later thouhg, when I do an SMC reset, I don't notice the heat going away and it's still working the same way. P.S. Since I have been working from home, I often connect to an external monitor, no-surprise there that this causes heat. When I don't work with one, it's still warmer that it should be in my opinion. Any idea what may be the causing the issue and how can I fix it? My Macbook has the following specs: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) Processor 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 Memory 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Graphics Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I've made my first shortcut for creating my own daily journal entry in Apple Notes. It actually works very well except, the tags that the shortcut adds to the new note are not recognized as tags. The tags render in the default black font color, and the note is not collected in a smart folder that organizes by tags. If I place the cursor at the end of the "tag" and hit enter, it turns orange, indicating it is now a tag. How do I add a tag to a note template via a shortcut? Here is a screenshot of the relevant part of the shortcut shortcut screenshot

I recently encountered error 500 when trying to add new playlists, with the option set to add playlisted items to my library. I haven't found any documentation for Apple Music error messages. What does an error 500 in Apple Music mean? **Update**: Adding new items directly to my library instead of via a playlist gives a more helpful error message, stating "These additions would exceed the Cloud Music Library limit of 100,000 songs". So I think error 500 probably means the same thing.

I find that I generally cannot remove files on my main (hfs) external drive via Preview. I can remove them via a Finder window, and I can remove then from Terminal, just not Preview! If they're on my main drive (the internal SSD on my Mac Mini), I can remove them via Preview without any problem. Here's the directories (and security flags) for one file in question (foo.jpg): ls -l -d / /Volumes/ss /Volumes/ss/pics /Volumes/ss/pics/misc drwxr-xr-x 20 root wheel 640 Oct 12 2022 / drwxrwxr-x+ 97 root wheel 3366 Jul 26 22:49 /Volumes/ss drwxrwxr-x 33 sieler staff 1122 Jul 27 21:17 /Volumes/ss/pics drwxrwxr-x 13 sieler staff 442 Jul 27 21:24 /Volumes/ss/pics/misc -rw-r--r-- 1 sieler staff 3035137 Jul 19 12:40 foo.jpg Attempts to remove via Previe (e.g., right-click, select 'Move to Trash'; or left click and hit command-backspace) get a popup: You do not have permission to move the file "foo.jpg" to the trash. What's wrong with Preview? (And, can I fix it?) My external drive is: macOS Extended (Journaled) I'm on Monterey (12.6.1) *** **Update**: Oddly, Preview will let me rotate them and save them back in place, which effectively removes (and recreates) them, so it *has* access! And, since I can Finder-remove, or Terminal/rm-remove, I clearly have the rights to remove the file (and to access the .Trash folder). (Yes, the vast majority of other files on the drive are Preview removable.)

I am trying to mod an old iMac 21" late 2009 with an Intel CPU and repurpose it as a monitor. I was hoping to find the PSU pinout, which is a 14 pin one. My further goal is to allow the button on the back to turn on the PSU. So far I have identified: 1. GND in pins 01, 08, 07, 14. 2. 3.7V in pin06. 3. 12V in pin04. This is on a turned off PSU, connected to AC. I have to mention here that the pin06 is not connected to the motherboard connector but to the jst4 that is connected to the LCD controller. Here with your help I have found a pin guide: - PSU/logic board pinout voltages Pin12 suggests that it is waiting for a signal from the logic board, possibly the 3.7V on Jst4. I tried connecting the 3.7V via a 1K resistor to pin 12 but nothing happened, voltages across the pinhead remained the same. The momentary switch has a very small resistance about 24ohm. Will I need some additional circuitry, like a transistor, to accomplish the turn on. Is there any other resource for finding how to mod this iMac and use its PSU?

I have a larger, external monitor connected to my MacBook Pro and have arranged it such that the dock is in the external monitor (via System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement, by dragging the white bar to the larger screen). This works fine, except for the fact that every now and then, the dock will suddenly shift back to my MacBook screen, but when I open up Displays to change this back, the white bar is still on the external monitor. So I have to drag it to the smaller screen, and then drag it back to the external monitor. It's a minor issue, obviously, but I've noticed that it has been happening more and more frequently and it's getting quite annoying. Perhaps there's something I've been doing unintentionally for this to happen? I'm using Mavericks, 10.9.5.

I have a 2023 M2 MacBook Pro, with an Anker USB-C hub. I also have a USB 3.0 Switch, that I use to switch my keyboard/mouse between my MacBook and my PC. When I plug a USB-3 to USB-C cable directly into my MacBook, nothing happens; sometimes my mouse will light up, but the MacBook doesn't see it. The USB-3 to USB-C is male on both ends. However, if I plug in the same USB-3 to USB-C cable into the Anker USB-C hub, everything works as expected. Is there any way that I can use the USB-C cable directly, without having to use the hub? Basically, right now my set up looks like this: Mouse --USB-A Cable--> USB Switch --USB-3 to USB-C--> Anker Hub --USB-C--> MacBook But I want it to look like this: Mouse --USB Cable--> USB Switch --USB-3 to USB-C--> MacBook Note that the USB3 to USBC cable that I'm using did not come with the USB switch; its a separate cable that I had lying around. These are the items in question. - Anker 555 USB-C Hub (8-in-1) enter image description here - ABLEWE 3.0 USB Switch enter image description here

I’m trying to retrieve the name of my Wi-Fi network via the terminal, but I’m encountering some issues. I tried with the command:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport -s
However, it returns the following warning:
WARNING: The airport command line tool is deprecated and will be removed in a future release.
For diagnosing Wi-Fi related issues, use the Wireless Diagnostics app or the wdutil command line tool.
I also tried:
networksetup -getairportnetwork en0
But it returns:
You are not associated with an AirPort network.
Even though I am connected to Wi-Fi. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, as well as deleting the following .plist files in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/:
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
com.apple.network.identification.plist
com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
NetworkInterfaces.plist
preferences.plist
Despite these efforts, I still have not resolved the issue. I **DON'T** want to use wdutil since it requires the sudo password. Is there any way to fix the problem with networksetup, or is there an alternative method to retrieve the Wi-Fi name? Specifications: macOS Sequoia 15.0 Apple Silicon M3 Pro **UPDATE:** Today I reset my mac to the factory settings and the system installed Sonoma as the default OS. I have tried the terminal command networksetup and it works fine. After updating again to Sequoia the problem appears again so I think the problem is directly related to this new update. Unfortunately, I can't find any info about deprecation or warnings on the man.
