So after replacing the battery in my One (M8) with a new one from eBay, the notification light just blinks orange when charging. When swapping back to the battery before replacement, it, at least, shows a battery charging screen. What am I doing wrong? I've heard something about 'deep discharge' where it needs to be on the flashing light for 15 to 30 minutes to actually start charging or something like that.
Is this new battery a dud? Should I keep charging it? Really don't know what to do at this point...
Update! I reseating the battery connector on the motherboard and now it's a solid red light when plugged in! Hooray! When pressing the power button, though, nothing is shown on the screen. It's still all black. I just now replaced the screen, since I broke the LCD below the glass last time I tried to take it apart.

To any hardware engineers out there - build a phone without vibration and I'd buy it in an instant.

Why is my internal memory almost full while the files add up to only a few gigabytes?
My HTC One M8 internal memory is almost full (15.40 out of 16). The phone says it's mostly applications. But when I connect it to my computer, go to Internal Storage and add the sizes of all directories, the total is about 3 gigabytes.

He wants the whole system to be translated to Arabic, and that language isn't available. According to this video , if we just force stopped customization settings provider, it will allow us to select the Arabic language from settings.
Is It correct? Is it that simple? Don't I need to root it and stuff? What happens if he restarts the device?

Couple of days back, I got the notification to download and install official Android 6.0 (build 6.12.401) in my HTC One M8 (not rooted, was running Android 5.0.2). As I downloaded and installed it, from that point it's gone to boot-loop state and showing only HTC logo.
Now I have tried to do Factory reset that ends in the same loop, recovery mode which does nothing and stays on that screen with exclamation sign, installed ADB on a friend's advice, *but the mobile's debugging is not on*.
Any advice or explanation of the issue and the fix?

I have an HTC One (M8) with Cyanogenmod 12 (12-20150625-snapshot-yng4nao09n-m8) which I have been using since June. Before that I had a different version of CM on the same phone and did a full reset. Late September, high data usage by the Android OS system showed up like the bogeyman out of nowhere. I've had a 3GB plan for 2 years and have never once gone over until now where I am over by 4GB.
Verified Backup and Sync is turned off for the phone and for photos. I also cleared the cache and data for Google Backup Transport, Google Play Services, Google Play Store, and Google Services Framework, rebooted, and thought I had the problem solved, but installed My Data Manager and waited.
The built in Data manager shows everything as Android OS, with no option for me to restrict. Data Manager caught it happening today and says its EasyAccessServices. What is EasyAccessServices, anyway? In All Apps the option to disable EasyAccessServices is greyed out.
Every data jump has been in the same amount: 0.64GB (650-680MB). It will happen at different times of the day, on random days. This has got me tearing my hair out in frustration. I've got some rollover data built up but I can't afford too much more of this.
**EDIT**: Its been explained that EasyAccessServices is the pointer/gesture app built in to the OS that basically acts as the touchscreen driver. I can't tell if the data was uploaded or downloaded, but maybe the app is trying to update itself and failing. Looks like
" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">
" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">
" class="img-fluid rounded" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto; margin: 10px 0;" loading="lazy">
com.htc.easyaccessservice
is version 2.0.831094.
**EDIT2**: I can Force Stop the application. When I do I still can use all the gestures I can think of in NovaLauncher and Facebook.

I have HTC One (M8). I just found out that the model on the back of the phone is 0P6B100 while it's 0P6B700 in
getvar
. I found that out after trying all the x.xx.651.x RUUs flashed down below because I thought it needed Sprint RUU.
First of all, every time I reboot I find the same apps installed, pics, and missed calls no matter how many times I erase all that, and if I installed new apps, every reboot it's not there. I wanted to get it back to stock as new but I couldn't and here is what I have tried:
1. Couldn't flash stock or custom recovery. Got [failed (Remote : Not allowed)]
because the bootloader is locked, and I couldn't unlock the bootloader. After getting unlock code from HTCdev.com and installing it and after selecting yes on the phone to unlock the bootloader, the phone just reboots.
2. Tried to flash RUU (3.30.651.2 & 4.25.651.14) wizard while the phone was on fastboot mode. Phone couldn't boot into bootloader while on fastboot mode so it reboots regularly.
3. Tried to flash RUU (3.30.651.2 & 4.25.651.14) wizard while the phone was on. Did the first steps and it was ok, but again, when the wizard is waiting for the bootloader while phone was in fastboot mode, it just reboots regularly.
4. Tried renaming another (4.25.651.14) RUU to 0P6BIMG.zip
and put it on SD card and went to Hboot. After clicking yes to confirm the update, the phone rebooted in the middle of the steps.
5. Tried flashing the same 0P6BIMG.zip
from recovery mode. After 3 minutes of hope crushed by verifying update package.... - Installation aborted....
6 Tried flashing RUU.zip
via fastboot. The phone just reboots regularly when trying to reboot RUU.
Here is the result from getvar

I have seen links to ruu.lalleman.net with stock recoveries and RUUs, but the links are dead now.
My HTC M8s is fully stock now and I want to try Lineage 15.1 from https://src.voidzero.net/ (unless you can suggest some even more stable ROM with at least Android 7). I found twrp-3.2.3-0-m8qlul.img also on the same website, and also MindTheGapps-8.1.0-arm-20180808_153837.zip, so it should all work together nicely (I hope).
But before I go on, I want to make sure I can return back to stock. So, I have obtained RUU 0PKVIMG_M8_QL_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_2.21.401.1_Radio_1.0.U20410.1@60201_20.05_018_F_release_496316_signed_2_4.zip that matches my radio number and currently installed mainver number. However, I can't find the stock recovery anywhere.
Here's my fastboot info:

Perhaps naively, I switched the sd card between my phone and my tablet.
Trouble was some of my phone apps has been installed on the sd card and they no longer work, I felt at the time that I could live with that.
The thing is that as the internal memory starts to fill up again, I can no longer bring up the list of apps from the settings screen. When I click on it, it shows the circle like it's working on it but never finishes the job! I'm guesnig this may be because it's looking for apps that were on the sd card which I removed. This is a pain as I can't move or delete any of the apps that are left (in the internal storage).
However, recently my memory went critical and at that point the phone was able to show me a list of apps which allowed me to chose some for deletion, but this only comes up when the phone memory gets critical. So it must be possible for the OS to find the list of apps.
Is there a way to move the apps to the SD card using an app or a PC?
I have an HTC One_M8, Android 6.0 and HTC sense version 7.0.

My HTC One M8 phone has just gotten the Android 6 update (like a week or few ago). I successfully downloaded and unzipped the update. However, I was the confronted with this screen (sorry for the poor resolution, I took it with my iPad since I couldn't screenshot):
I tried to do this multiple times (including recently, which is when I took the photo), and the same thing kept happening. I contacted HTC support, and someone told me to download a ROM onto my laptop and update from my laptop. However, to do so, I also needed to download HTC Sync Manager.
HTC Sync Manager had trouble connecting to my phone. It would start a sync process, but then say that there was an error. After an hour of fruitless research, I tried to update anyway. After a bit of updating, it would say that the update failed, and it would just revert back to the old OS. Frustrated, I said that I would try again later, and uninstalled/deleted everything that I had downloaded.
Trying it again now, I'm getting the same thing. What can I do to circumvent this and successfully update? Everything I've tried, I've tried twice.

Having a bit of a stressful problem. My HTC m8 (Marshmallow) is encrypted, as well as the external SD card. All my photos are on the SD card. I have lots backed up but I'm having a great trip to NYC that didn't backup to google because I was roaming (it seems). Anyway, today my phone crashed (I think the battery is failing, it turned off instantly at 14%). When it turned on, all my photos are showing a gray icon (like they are corrupted). I cannot imagine how every single photo (of thousands) in multiple folders has corrupted.
Now, I noticed that when I go into Storage options the "Encrypt SD Card" box is UNTICKED. Implying the phone has forgotten the card is encrypted and thus cannot read the images. Though I thought it was weird that it can read the directories at all, implying its doing a file by file encryption rather than a full card encryption.
Anyway, obviously I know my PIN number that I need to decrypt the phone at boot up, is there any tool I can use to decrypt the images using this PIN? My fear is that (upon some research) that this is "encFS" encryption, which uses an encfs6.xml file to read the data and consequently the crash has deleted/corrupted this file. If so, this seems like a very delicate encryption mechanism.
Something else, when the phone started up again, it had reset a few other things. My default keyboard was no longer SwiftKey, I'm getting Android "tips" for scrolling etc... Does android back that file up anywhere? Does stock android call the file encfs6.xml?
Anyway, please, anyone, help me get my photos back :(
Many Thanks

I've been trying to unroot my HTC One M8 (India) for a long time and get it to 100% stock so that I can receive OTAs. It took me some time to get it all together but I still have the wrong stock recovery.img.
So when I download the OTA and the phone goes into recovery to install it, the error message says:

Where can I find the correct recovery (KTU84P)?

I am following [this](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708628) guide to root my HTC One M8. I just need root, I don't need a custom ROM.
I have gotten to step 7 (weaksauce). I can install weaksauce fine and it roots my device (at least, it says it roots it).
However, when I try to run SuperSU (downloaded from the Android market, latest version) it says
The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?
It says this in my notification bar as well. I click Continue
and it says Installing, please wait. If you see this message for more than five minutes please restart and try again
. After about 30 seconds, it says Installation failed ! Please reboot and try again
.
I've tried it multiple times with all forms of rebooting (adb reboot, holding power button, etc) as well as a factory reset (which put me back down to 4.2.2), however it keeps giving me this error.

I have an HTC One M8 running Marshmallow 6.0, kernel 3.4.0-perf-gd7aafa47 and build MRA58K.H15, unlocked bootloader but non-rooted device. The device is a tab over 2 years old now, and the system has been shutting down on its own when the battery charge gets closer to 10%. Yesterday, after charging up and powering on, I've noticed no more notifications are shown. The sounds are played, but no icons are displayed at the top left. Further, when I try to draw down to see more information, nothing other than 'No notifications' message displays. Also noticed that the gear icon on the top right has disappeared, I actually have to go the long route to access settings now. Another thing I've noticed is that the 'developer options', which were always enabled, now display '...not available for this user'. I've tried wiping the cache partition, but that made not difference.
Any ideas?

Today the phone was forced shut-down at 13% battery (it had that problem for a while) and when I charged it and tried to turn it on, a message pops out saying that there's an internal problem and it may be unstable until I factory reset the phone. And there is indeed a problem. Messages keep popping out saying that google apps are crashing and I basically can't use it.
So, can I just factory reset it like that? Since it's rooted and everything.

Recover data on internal memory of a dead HTC One M8

I happen to drop my HTC One M8 due to which the screen got cracked and also made the phone stop working, doesn't start, doesn't charge, absolutely nothing, as good as paperweight.
I took the phone for repairing and they told me that, the phone needs following:-
1. Chipset rework to main board
2. Charging connector replacement
3. New LCD
4. Software flash - all personal data will be lost/erased
What I am more concerned about is the loss of data from the internal memory.
I would like to know if there is anyway that I can recover the data, I have some important files, text and WhatsApp messages(which were not backed-up before the drop)
One thing I came across is tools for recovering deleted files.
Is it possible that I get the phone repaired including software flash and then run one of these tools viz. H Data Recovery to recover my data?
I mean even with a software flash the data will still be in the memory and just the pointers will be removed, right? like it happens in simple disk format. I am assuming this, please correct my understanding.
If the above is possible, what should I ask the repair center to not do, so that there is still the possibility of data recovery?
