By mistake when forwarding an SMS I selected a thread that does not allow replies (messages from my bank). Now each time I open the messaging app there is the draft message on top of the list and there is nothing I can do to delete. I cannot find any option to delete the draft from this thread. Also when I actually open the said thread the draft text is nowhere to be seen...
I tried deleting the apps cache, but it does not help.
I tried force stopping the app. No help.
Within the thread there aren't any options related to drafts.
I know I could delete the entire thread or app data, but I do not want to lose the data from it.
Is the solution from this link (it's 7 year old) really safe in terms of not losing all SMS history?

If not, is there anything else I can try ?

I am trying to find out privacy settings behind the Wi-Fi chat offered by... Samsung? It is built into my S10e as an additional chat service with little to no information about it. It's free and enables chat over Wi-Fi and to groups of users who have the feature enabled. It also enables Android users to see when others who have the service are typing like on the iPhone.
My concern is privacy. If it's free, how do I know that I am not the product here?

This morning my wife sent me a series of messages on Telegram X. I didn't get any notifications.
This has become the usual for most of my messaging apps on Android. (I have Android 14.) I have Telegram X, Threema, Discord, and Teams. Teams is the only one that consistently shows notifications; the other three often get messages and don't notify about it at all. (Standard text messaging also works.)
I've obviously checked the usual places, notification settings, battery settings, etc.
Not sure if it's related, but I also find that my Polar watch no longer background-syncs with Android. I have to be running the Polar app for it to sync properly; otherwise it can't connect.
Is this a known issue in current versions of Android? Is Android intentionally disabling these apps to save battery life at the expense of functionality or something?
How can I fix this (meaning, get my notifications as expected)?

I have a persistent issue with my Pixel 7a Android 14 phone, that messages sent through WhatsApp don't always get received on my phone until a while (30+ minutes). Sometimes they don't get received at all until I grab my phone, in which case they all get received at once, and in some cases they aren't received until I actually open the WhatsApp app and there I will see them all rattling in.
I suspected Doze Mode to be the culprit, but the issue persists even after disabling battery optimizations for the app. I have also tried using other applications such as Skype, Instagram, which experience the same problem. I have also completely deactivated Do not Disturb and it does not solve the issue either. Reinstalling WhatsApp has also not solved the issue.
The issue is not with the sending phone - they communicate just fine with other people on WhatsApp during these problems.
What is happening? How do I make my messages received and notify me when they should?

I want to install Signal on a Samsumg Galaxy Tab A (2016) with Android-Version 8.1.
According to Signal official page, Android 4.4 or superior is required (so, this should be no problem)
But in the Google Play app on the tablet, I can't find it.
And on the website ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms ) , it clearly shows that Signal is NOT 2 of my tablets (the Tab A above, and a even younger one)
( x sign to show the Signal app is not availlable on this device, and the "v" sign for availlable)
I have 2 ideas to explain this fact:
* I installed Google Family Link on these tablets. But as Signal is not age limited, I really don't understand
* these tablets has no SIM card slot. They are "WIFI version only".
Could someone help me installing Signal on this Tab A ?

I have WhatsApp installed on my HTC Sensation running Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). I also have other social contact related apps such as Google Voice, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. For my Google Contacts, it links each of these services up to the people in my address book.
When using WhatsApp, only a few of my contact's icons shows up for the screen with recent messages. When I view the contact in my address book, they have an icon (headshot) either from Google contacts, Facebook, or some other social service.
Why do only some of my WhatsApp contacts have icons showing? The other WhatsApp contacts default to an Android avatar. I've refreshed the WhatsApp contacts list and the problem still persists.

**My device**: I use Android 9 on samsung galaxy s9.
**Background**: I believe there was a feature before (or maybe currently still, but I turned it off) about showing number of unread messages on apps like whatsapp, viber or the SMS app (and i guess gmail or facebook) or at the very least there's some kind of dot or something on a corner of the icon of such an app that indicates there exists at least 1 unread message (so the dot is an alternative to a specific number of unread messages).
**My situation**: I do not have such number or dot on icons on apps on my device. If I get a message on whatsapp or viber or regular SMS but say I have to install some updates and so my phone has to turn off or restart, then the notification of this message is gone.
**Question**: How do I see number or existence of unread messages on icons of apps such as viber and whatsapp and the SMS app?
I have tried looking this up, but
1. I wasn't able to find any articles specifically on Android 9 and Samsung Galaxy S9.
2. The solutions proposed in articles I've found on Android 9 but a different phone or on different versions of Android have not worked for me.
3. I've tried looking up some apps on the play store, but I haven't downloaded any because of the reviews.

I just purchased a [Logitech K760 Wireless keyboard](http://amzn.to/KHGuV4) for my Nexus 4. I have the keyboard paired properly to my phone, but I am unable to *send* from the keyboard, when sending IMs via Facebook, Skype, etc.
I also have SwiftKey installed, and have tried using both SwiftKey and the default Google Keyboard, and both behave the same way.
Is there a configuration option, or add-on app I can use to control how this works? My ideal configuration would have ENTER send, and SHIFT+ENTER (or similar) insert a newline. But I would also be willing to map the *send* function to one of the F-keys or something else, if that's what I must do.
I am using Android 4.4.2.

If I don't have the app open, I don't get messages that people send to me. When I open the app, I see unread messages. I have seen this with LinkedIn messages, Quora messages, and Signal recently (these are the apps I do use - I don't know if there are more apps that are showing this behavior). And this has been going on for about a year now, if not a little more; it didn't use to be like this before. The only apps where I do get notifications for messages are Facebook Messenger, Instagram messages and WhatsApp (basically, all Facebook owned apps), in addition to the plain old SMS.
I have checked in App settings; I have turned on notifications, so I should receive notifications for messages. But I don't. For example, see this screenshot of LinkedIn permissions, where you can clearly see that that I have enabled every kind of notification there is, but I still don't get notifications for messages that are sent to me:
And here's a screenshot of the battery optimization settings of LinkedIn, where you can see that I have not enabled battery optimization for it, and given it permission to run in the background:
If I further click on "Battery optimization", this is what I get:
Could someone please explain in detail, is this the result of some OS update, possibly as part of an attempt to extend battery life? How do I make it such that I get notifications for all messages sent to me all the time, regardless of whether I have the app open or not? I don't care much about other notifications (likes, shares, etc), but it is important to me that I get notifications for DMs (direct messages) sent to me.

1. on WhatsApp
2. via a plain-textu representation (which still makes it clear who says what, and isn't just a concatenation of the text)
3. via some reasonable structural represntation, doesn't matter exavtly which (e.g. XML, HTML, markdown, RDF, email-like quoting etc.)
Which of these options is feasible, and how?
PS - I use a Doogee X5 phone with Android 5.1, in case it matters.

I want to remove the default messages application called Messages which handles sms sending and receiving from my Wiko View 4 Android 10 device.
The reason I am wishing to uninstall this app is that I deem some of the content in this app inappropriate.
Can I install SuperSU or something to root the device and then remove this app?
Is there some other way to remove it?
Is there a way to remove it at all?
When I click on it I can only remove it from my home screen, but cannot uninstall it because the uninstall option to drag the app to in the screen is missing (only the remove place where to drag the icon appears).
If I remove the Messages app from the home screen, I still can see it in the list, if apps, when I scroll up on the home screen with my fingers to see all apps.
But I don't want this app anywhere on my phone.
Thanks.

Today I noticed that when I typed and sent "One way they can fit it in" in the Facebook Messenger app for Android, it created a link (underlining the text, see first image below). When I follow this link, it prompts me to open the Compass app or Google Maps.
I have found that it does not work on the Messenger app for iOS or Windows, but does work for other messaging apps within Android. When opening the link in Google maps, it responds with a message, "No results found" (see second image below).
Can anyone else reproduce this behaviour? Does anyone have any idea what Android feature might be causing this phenomenon?
**Edit:** I am on a Samsung S8, using Android Pie, although my friend can also see this on his Huawei P10. This behaviour happens on both Facebook Messenger and the default Samsung Messages app. I have tried several other similar phrases, but I have found that the general form of text that forms this link must begin with "one", end with "in", and have three or more words in between, one of which must be the word "way" (For example, "_One_ foo bar _way_ hello world _in_" creates a link).

I was using Discord on my AOKP 7.1 GM7102 and there was a message that looked like this.
I copy-pasted one of the text in a text program -Xplore Text Editor- in the phone and the same boxes appear when I copy to the notes app. I sent the file to the PC and this is how it looks like.
When opening in Word. Out of major encodings, apparently only UTF-8 worked rest were messed up and weirdly when I selected the text it was half the length of the selection box.
So how do I fix that? I once changed Roboto-Regular with Lucida Console.ttf but I don't think it's related. Changing to the online Roboto-Regular download didn't help either.
This is probably an app-based problem but I want to know if it has something to do with Android in general.
Here is direct copy-paste from the Discord browser.

TLDR: Is there an Android app that would allow for reliable instant messaging in areas without internet of any sort?
I am looking for a free Android app that would allow several users to communicate with each other over short distances even when there may not be any internet connection available to them. This means that the app should be able to run in the background, connect to a mesh network of all other devices running the same app and send and receive messages reliably. Having to give the app special permissions is not a problem. (Though the previous option
is preferable, if there is a way that works using a private WiFi (without it having to be connected to the internet) and a server hosted on a local machine I am also interested in it.)
I know this is asking quite a lot, however, a number of apps on Google Play claim to possess all these features. I have tried some of these that work via Bluetooth and ad-hoc WiFi but I found that none of them worked reliably. These include:
- FireChat: I know it used to work in the past but the current version does not
- Bridgefy: only seems to support text messages in the current version and is unreliable, but it's still the best I could find
- Briar: did not work well
- Signal: did not work well
- goTenna: likely works well but very expensive
I only tested these between two devices each time, might any of these work better in practice with more users as mesh networks should in theory? Is there an app that might help I have not tried yet? Or is there a point to trying out old versions of FireChat hoping to stumble upon a working one? If so, would I be able to trust it (both the APK from a mirror and the app data security-wise)?
