Can I Install the Newer Samsung DeX Version on a Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F?

I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F) and am interested in utilizing Samsung DeX to connect my phone to a Windows PC via USB-C, leveraging the newer DeX features that allow for a more integrated experience compared to the original DeX Docking Station . I understand that the newer generation of DeX offers additional functionalities, and I'm keen on exploring how I can benefit from these on my device. After conducting some research , I found that the following packages are essential for DeX functionality, and most of them are already installed on my phone: - com.sec.android.desktopmode.uiservice - com.samsung.desktopsystemui - com.sec.android.app.desktoplauncher - com.sec.android.app.dexonpc The last package (com.sec.android.app.dexonpc) appears to be what I need to enable the newer DeX features. I attempted to install it using an APK from APKMirror through adb install .apk, but encountered the error:
Performing Streamed Install
adb: failed to install .apk: Failure [-3001]
As mentioned in a Stack Overflow comment , I've also tried several commands to address installation issues, but none have succeeded. My questions are: 1. Is installing the newer version of Samsung DeX on a Galaxy Note 8 feasible, or is this endeavor a dead end due to hardware/software limitations? 2. How safe is it to download and install APKs from third-party websites like APKMirror or APKCombo for this purpose? I appreciate any insights or experiences you can share regarding upgrading DeX on older Samsung devices.

I have a Samsung S10 phone with Samsung Dex. Dex is fun and can (sometimes) be quite useful. With it, I can use a desktop environment on my phone, like I would on a computer. My workplace is equipped with a wide range of Dell docking stations. For some reason, some get recognized by Dex. And some do not. For instance, Dex works immediately with the WD19 , but not with the TB16 or the WD15 . My questions: is there a (good) reason why not? How can I fix it?

I came across with a very interesting problem: Given a Samsung phone (Fold3), and an USB docking station, and 2 thumb drives. I wanted to copy files (10Gb total) from Thumb1 to Thumb2 with the phone (FX commander). No matter what I tried, 10 of 10 attempts failed with various reasons (USB became instable, please reset phone, etc etc etc). Sometimes the whole UI was frozen for a couple of minutes. Then I realized that using all the same equipment, but also plugging a monitor to the dock solves the file copy issue. If I do this on DeX, 10 of 10 times success. What could I do to make this work without DeX?

I tried uninstalling docs, tried different browsers, tried to change the default action for Google docs links and tried to activate the desktop mode where possible but I still couldn't access the desktop mode of Google Docs that I would see on Windows. I'd be grateful for any help.

I decided to debloat my Samsung Note 20 Ultra phone of all the garbage apps Samsung installs. I used ADB shell to perform this bloatware removal and the list shown below identifies all the Samsung bloatware app names which I used as a guide in my removal process. Everything went perfectly except for the fact I mistakenly uninstalled DEX which is an app that allows me to connect my Note 20 Ultra to a monitor via an HDMI connection. Once the connection is established DEX would automatically start and magically generate a "Windows Like" desktop GUI on the monitor. In short, my DEX is no longer working in the same way it was working before I performed the debloat process. I hope somebody in this community can identify to me which Samsung parent app from the list shown below is the DEX app subordinate to? Because my theory is the DEX app is hiding inside one of the parent apps shown below and what is not making it easy is how the word "DEX" is nowhere to be seen. Therefore, I hope somebody can tell me which of the Samsung apps shown below I should leave untouched so my DEX app remains operational. I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, and it's quite good... except for Samsung's software, which I would qualify as bloatware without hesitation. I bought a cable that is able to move signal from USB-C ports to HDMI ports, and I connected my tablet to my TV using that cable. The problem arrives when Samsung, in all its wisdom, refuses to just stream my screen, and insists on starting this Frankenstein thing of Dex. Even if the idea seems good, its execution is very poor, and all the software running on it becomes highly unstable, crashing all the time (when it does not have any problems running in basic mode). And that's why I'm looking for some way to send my tablet screen to my TV while avoiding to activate Dex. As an extra, I also considered using something like Chromecast Ultra, and in fact I did, but its streaming quality is just a disaster, and looses a lot of quality (hence my intention to go with simple cables). Thank you for your attention.

When I connect my tablet via SmartView it works, but not when doing so via HDMI. (I want the connection to be via HDMI because of different reasons.) Is there some option that I missed? Or is it simply not possible to send the needed signals over HDMI to my tablet? If so, do you know of some workaround? Like connecting your smartphone to the tablet and use it as touchpad? I would like to avoid buying a bluetooth mini keyboard. Kind regards

I am wondering why when I start Netflix's app it fails to playback any video (even downloaded ones). Youtube works just fine, it's only an app running on Desktop looking environment. So is it the DRM that could forbid that without an app knowing, I am not trying to ask an app specific thing, but globally for any app if DRM framework is the cause. Like for instance when a banking app blurs out, it's not the app causing it, but the category of the app. The full setup looks like this: - 1 Samsung S10 - A smart tv (MHL compatible) - 1 cheap usb-C to HDMI adapter - A long HDMI cable (which doesn't matter at this point, since we have a connection to the tv) - A Samsung Dex running - Target app is in maximized window (Please don't flag the question if it's poorly written, I really think this is a problem that some people will find it useful if solved, especially if they want to watch videos using some evil DRM based apps)

Play a video on a TV over HDMI without DEX experience

I see there are two options on how to connect my S9 to a TV over HDMI: dex and screen mirroring. Neither of them quite fits what I want to do. I'm coming from the iPhone and I want to do the same as there - use a tv only when a video is playing. E.g. I'm browsing web on my phone as usual but once I start a video I have a choice where to run it on the local phone screen or on the connected screen. Full dex experience is just too much hassle and looks like overkill for this, not all the apps support it and sometimes there are minor issues with fullscreen players. While screen mirroring is even worse, works only with phone display on and adds black bars twice horizontally and vertically, I believe it's because screen ratio of S9 does not match my TV screen ratio 16:9

After recent two Android security updates, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 plugged into a DeX station is unable to detect it and therefore it is not offering the notification which allows to turn on the external monitor or going to DeX options. Attached keyboard and mouse via USB ports on Dex Station still work fine with the phone as it is. Only the DeX mode recognition seems to be gone. What I did try: * An advice to plug the phone into DeX Station unplugged from the power and the re-attached the power cable but it did not help the DeX recognition. * A troubleshooter from Samsung. Update was completed, no change. * Trying the device elsewhere with a Galaxy S9 phone. It worked normally.
