I often leave my phone plugged into my MacBook over night. After switching to an iPhone with USB-C, it started charging up my Mac from the phone battery if the Mac isn't connected to power, which results in my phone being dead in the morning. I'm unsure whether the Mac's battery is already flat when this happens, or if it happens when the Mac is still sleeping. The battery settings on the iPhone show power being used by "USB-C Accessories". Is there any way to disable this reverse charging behaviour?

I updated my Mac to new MacOS version (*15.6 (24G84)*). During the MacOS new changes overview tour; I was asked whether to add Password in Menu Bar and that time set it to yes, and now I’m unable to remove it from top menu bar. this was the suggestion I found - Open **System Settings**. - Go to **Control Center** from the sidebar. - Scroll down to the **Menu Bar Only** section. - Find **Passwords** in the list. - Click the dropdown next to **Passwords** and set it to "Don't Show in Menu Bar". But there is no such item present on **Menu Bar Only** section; someone can help me how to remove item from menu bar ( see the screenshot, passwords icon is visible )

I have got a problem with booting into Windows 10 after changing Superdrive to SSD - "**No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key**". It works if i leave only old hard drive, removing the new SSD, the Windows boots well. The boot option screen can detect old MacOS, new MacOS and the partition with Windows on old HD. I have a MX Keys keyboard, connected via bluetooth, and recently, the media keys just don't work anymore. If I use something like BeardedSpice, it does, but I don't get why it doesn't work without it as well... Volume keys work fine though, just the play, next and previous aren't working (on any player). I don't know what could possibly cause this. Any ideas? EDIT: best guess is some app is "stealing" the key presses, not sure how to find out if that's true and if so, which app. EDIT 2: tested in another user and it works. Also did reset SMC et al. My best guess still is that something is stealing the keypresses, no idea what nor how to find out. EDIT 3: the macbook's physical keyboard also do not work. EDIT 4: it seem to have stopped working when I briefly migrated from apple music to spotify. Media keys didn't work on spotify, so I assumed it was a spotify issue, and started using bearded spice. Recently I migrated back to apple music and media keys don't work anywhere. I already uninstalled both bearded spice and spotify. I also looked for "leftovers" from those two apps using fd -i bearded and fd -i spotify and didn't find anything. There are also no processes from either running. EDIT 5: I don't have any media extensions on chrome and already disabled the media key handling by going to chrome://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling.

I've linked an Apple AirTag with my iPhone (i.e., I see the AirTag in the "Find My" app). The AirTag is currently in some bag far away, but it will get back to my place soon. How can I configure my phone so that it rings if the AirTag gets less than 1 kilometer away from my phone?

On my iPhone running iOS 18, in iMessage, I have multiple sender addresses including 3 phone numbers and 3 email addresses. Different from https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/468103/how-to-use-different-sender-address-in-imessage-when-messaging-different-contact , where the OP wanted to use different sender addresses intentionally, I only want to know which address I am actually using in each existing conversation. Contacts are not all using the same default address to contact me, because I notice that iMessage will use the address that I received the message from to send responses. This starts to become an issue as I plan to remove one of these email addresses that I no longer want to use. I would like to know which contacts I need to send this update. Likely there are not many such contacts, so I don't want to send the update to everyone. Also, if I just remove it blindly and start to send messages using my new default address, then some contacts could spam my messages automatically because they don't have my new address in their Contacts.

Recently I was made redundant by company but the chrome I use is somehow 'Managed by the organization' The IT told me that we do not have control over your personal machine so it might be the case of removing chrome, which I did but it still says same as in screenshot below. What is the solution to this as my ex company has cleary said they do not control my chrome as I left the company Where should I look outside the chrome app itself to remove this configuration on macOS Sonoma?

I have 4 external monitors (non-mac) with MacBoook 16". 2 of them (C27JG5x and Optix G24C support 144GhZ.) Is there a way to set up keyboard layouts preferences to have a **separate layout for each window**? **Use case described step by step:** - I use **two keyboard layouts**: English and non-English one. - I often open Terminal, where I use English layout. - And I often chat in another app using my native language. - I am tired of switching **global keyboard layout** back and forth. - I would like **macOS to remember**, which layout was **last-used in each window**. I recently had to clear some network related settings and preferences in order to get online at an airport using a captive hotspot. This was done because the login window was not opening in Safari or any other browser. I tried using http://captive.apple.com , but it would not launch the window. After these changes were made, I was able to get online on the airport wifi, but I am now unable to connect to my remote website servers using SSH in the Terminal app. When I try to connect to various remote servers, the connection hangs and eventually times out. I have iPhone 11 with latest OS 18.6 (as of today). now I have some voice memos on my iPhone, and I want to move them to my Windows 11, so I did the following but it did not work:- 1) Download and Install iTunes inside windows 11 2) Connect my iPhone to my laptop using USB cable. 3) Open iTunes, click on the phone icon >> under music, I select to Sync, so it says that it is performing 4 steps, then iTunes mentioned that it is waiting for changing. and nothing got moved to my laptop. I tried to create new test memos, and those did not get moved as well. So, what about this is not workable? and can i benefit from the "Phone Link" app inside windows 11?

When Stage Manager is activated, it provides 3D previews of the spaces or stages on the left hand side that are always visible and take space but if you expand the current window over those spaces, they autohide and show up as 2D on top of the window if you move your pointer to the left edge of the screen so you can switch between them. My issue is that they hide immediately when I move the mouse even a little bit to the right but the correct behaviour would be to stay visible up until I move the pointer further away from the location so I can actually click them if I want. As I said, the Stage Manager works as expected a new user account and use it from there, which makes me to conclude that it's not a Beta related bug. Any idea how to fix that? My home network has connected: an iMac (recently updated from Monterey to Sequoia), a Windows machine, and a fairly old HP LaserJet 2100 TN. Before the update, both computers could print to the HP reliably. After the update to Sequoia, printing does not work anymore for the iMac. The printer is accessible via ping and traceroute, but when I try to print to it from the iMac, **System Settings > Printers & Scanners** says that the printer queue is idle, but when I open the printer queue, it says the "printer is not responding". I tried to reinstall the printer. I removed the current printer definition and used "add printer" to install a new one. Since the list of printers in the **Defaults** tab was empty, I clicked on the **IP** tab and installed instead the "generic PCL driver" using the IP address of the printer. If I remember correctly, I also had to do this after buying the iMac (which was shipped with Monterey). After reinstalling the printer drivers, **System Settings > Printers & Scanners** again says that the printer is idle, but if I click on **Printer Queue**, I now immediately see "Printer offline". It is interesting to note that printing works fine from the Windows machine, but **only** if the iMac is turned off (or in sleep mode) by the time the HP is turned on. Once the iMac runs for a while (or tries to print something), the Windows machine can't print to the HP either. This makes me suspect whether the problem could also be due to some bad settings in my router, though I don't know what to look for. In case it is important: My router has an IP address 10.1.1.11, the printer has 10.1.1.20 (fixed address assigned). For my iMac the command ifconfig -a | grep broadcast displays:

Whenever I'm logged in as a certain user and trigger a shutdown or restart, I get prompted to enable FileVault. - I have searched everywhere to find the hook that causes this prompt, but I can't find it. - I've searched all the LaunchDaemon and LaunchAgent directories I can find. - I've reviewed the output of launchctl find. - I've done other things in the past as well but I don't remember them all. - I have upgraded my computer and transferred my user account multiple times since this started happening. It seems to stick to my user account. - I believe this might have come from Symantec Endpoint Encryption that was installed by my employer many years ago. But I've also tried all the uninstaller techniques I can find for that. It appears after all the desktop stuff has gone away. Any ideas for where else I can look for a hook that might trigger this? I've always had LuLu on my MacBook to block unwanted internet access, and recently realized that every minute or two, curl is being used by an unknown process to connect to a remote server. I'm denying every outgoing request to the server but the fact that in the background there's a process trying to make these calls is scratching my head… Going deeper in Activity monitor I followed a road of strange processes: sudo with parent osascript, with parent bash, the last one mentioning a hidden file in my user folder named .agent found in the tab "Open Files and Ports": The .agent file contains a script:

It mentions another hidden file named .helper, but that's a binary and I can't see what it does. --- **Update**: Deleting the following infected files stopped the loop, but my Mac should be considered compromised nevertheless.

From what I've seen: /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.finder.helper.plist launches ~/.agent which in turn calls the script ~/.helper which actually contains the malicious payload. 5 days ago I did a batch install of a lot of 3D software and plugins; the creation date of the malicious files confirm that I got this during the various permissions for the installations. Being a batch install I can't really point to the single infected installer.
