I am trying to use Vysor to control my Moto G5 which has a broken screen (completely black). It appears to be working otherwise (rings when called etc). However, I cannot connect to my PC using USB cable when the phone is on, because I cannot change from "Charging only" to MTP or PTP because I cannot see it on the screen. I can connect to ADB via recovery (stock and un-rooted) but all "adb shell" commands fail (error:closed) which I assume is due to not being rooted. I am trying to change the default USB connection mode to PTP rather than "Charging only" so I can use Vysor when the phone is booted normally, not in recovery. Has anyone got any ideas? I either need a way to made "adb shell" commands work (to follow the below link), or another way to change the USB default or another bright idea! https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/120026/how-do-i-change-from-ptp-to-mtp-mode-cannot-find-options-in-settings

I would like to install Google Play Services for AR (ARCore) on my Moto G5 Plus, running Oreo 8.1 - this device is not on the official Google supported list. I believe this is possible with TWRP and Magisk Manager. I have the Android SDK, and all necessary USB drivers installed. I can load .apk's using adb. However, I'd like to install TWRP without unlocking the bootloader or rooting the phone. First question: is this even possible? or do I need to root the phone? I tried to follow the instructions to install TWRP withOUT rooting , but when I try to flash the latest version of the Potter image, twrp-3.3.1-0-potter.img, I get a 'Preflash validation failed' error: \android\Sdk\platform-tools> .\fastboot.exe flash recovery twrp.img (bootloader) is-logical:recovery: not found Sending 'recovery' (16342 KB) OKAY [ 0.710s] Writing 'recovery' (bootloader) Image recovery failed validation (bootloader) Preflash validation failed FAILED (remote: '') fastboot: error: Command failed According to this answer , Moto devices do not support downgrading the bootloader. However, I figured the recovery image (3.3.1-0) was the most updated, and suited for Oreo 8.1. Is there any way to check bootloader versions of the image and that on my phone? Thanks in advance for any insight!

I assumed that having newer phone = _newer or at least the same_ system version. I'd never expect newer phone having older system version than its one year older predecessor. What am I missing?

My Moto G5 got stuck right after booting into Android, screen frozen at my Andorid home screen and was not responding. It was charging but battery was dead, like 1%. Don't know if that caused the issue. I had to remove the battery to turn it off. After that it never booted again: does start up animations, then asks the PIN, then remains stuck on Motorola logo.I suspect it is bricked? Is there any way to find out what is causing Android not to boot? which file/partition got corrupted, if any? I understand that there are several "images" in a Stock ROM, such as gpt.img, boot.img, oem.img... I am not sure about flashing these because I don't want to lose my data forever

I'm following this tutorial about how to unlock bootloader on Moto. My device is a Moto G5, and my computer has windows 10. On the command line, I can type
adb devices
and it returns my device. I then do
adb reboot bootloader
and it turns my phone into bootloader mode. But when I do
fastboot devices
it returns a blank line. According to this source (the second answer), I need to update some the "Unknown 'Android' device". However, I don't have anything like that. The closest I have is Other devices->Fastboot potter S. Do I update this driver? If so, how? If I choose "Search automatically for updated driver software," it doesn't find anything. If I choose "Browse my computer for driver software" and then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer", I have to "Select [my] device's type from the list below." but I don't know which one I'm supposed to choose. How do I fix this problem with fastboot devices? What drivers am I supposed to update? How do I fix them? If this question is better suited on another stackexchange such as superusers on account of it's being more about windows than android, let me know. I tried asking it there first, but the "android" tag said that the question would be off topic.

Some time ago I made a backup of the internal data partition with TWRP. Then I installed and updated some apps in the adopted storage. Due to some other issue with the phone, internal data was partly deleted and I restored the (slightly outdated) data from backup. Nevertheless the newly installed apps on adopted storage don't show and updated apps only appear after renaming the app installation directory (usually the an appended "-2" must be changed to "-1"). So I conclude that the system somewhere in the data stores a list of the installed apps and their install location, but where (and in which data format)?

**Device information:** - Motorola Moto G5 16GB (Cedric) - Stock firmware, android 7.0 - Custom recovery TWRP 3.2.1-0 (previously 3.1.0-0) - Bootloader unlocked (obviously) - Rooted, Magisk v15.0 I was just going to install Xposed framework, but there normal Xposed installer didn't work. I tried to flash the file using TWRP but I got error code 1. No /system partition. When I try to flash other zip files, I get similar error messages. When I exit TWRP it warns me and say: '*No OS installed, are you sure you want to reboot?*' When I reboot to the normal system partition, it just boots back into TWRP, same thing when I turn the device on. If I boot into the bootloader and start the device from there it does work and turn on. Once turned on everything works like it's supposed to, including Magisk. I can't find anything about this online, but I do know I once messed up my phone and flashed stock firmware using adb and fastboot from my computer. Before going back to stock, I soft bricked my device by installing PixelExperience ROM twice, first in December, the 12-11-2017 version, later in January I installed the 01-21-2018 version. This one however, didn't work at first. I installed a 64 bit version of TWRP and tried again, after which it worked. After installing it, my device didn't boot. Maybe it could, but I was sceptical since it automatically booted into recovery. But after flashing the stock firmware, it still didn't boot. I figured out on accident that booting via the bootloader did work. Possibly the custom ROM did work, but just didn't boot normally, just like the stock firmware. Link to xda thread for the ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/rom-t3710800 If you would like to look at the specific versions I installed, I still have them on my computer and will share them if asked. I completely reverted to stock and but it still wasn't fixed. **Edit:** I just saw this in TWRP, it says the system partition I've been having problems with is 17592186044369 MB, which is about 16777216 TB or 16384 PB. That's not correct of course. Can't seem to find anything about this only, though. TWRP SCREENSHOT Oh and for my English, it isn't my native language and I'm only 14, so if you have trouble understanding it, please say it so I can explain it in another way.

On Sunday, 13th September 2020, the battery of my Motorola Moto G5 broke down and I ordered a new one. Today, on Friday, 18th September 2020, it finally arrived and it works just fine. Several errors, however, occurred: 1. I have lost some of my contacts and only had the chance to recover some of them by importing an old VCF file that was not very up to date anymore. This, at least, brought back some contacts in WhatsApp. (Does anyone know why many of my contacts were lost after such an incident and some were not?) 2. But when I opened Telegram, I was asked to set up a new account. Even when I reinstalled Telegram, I am still asked to do this. I am, however, able to log on the Telegram web app . (Telegram sends me an SMS instead of an in-app text message.) There, I am able to see all the chats that are stored on Telegram’s cloud servers and also the contact names of people who are now not in my address book anymore, are displayed correctly. (Why is that? Is there a way to recover my address book via Telegram?) What shall I do? **Can I just “re-register” at the Telegram app with my phone number and see my cloud chats again on my phone?** What error occurred there? --- **Edit:** One thing just came to my mind. Can I just log off my phone via the web app and then just try to “register”/log on to my Telegram account via the Telegram app on my phone? Would this work and prevent data loss?

(I have also asked on stackoverflow, as I assume the use of developer tools is neccessary, but I would be very glad to get any working help on here also. The Google Photo App filled up the 16 GByte "Rom" of my Motorola G5: Google memory overview showed around 6.5 GByte of "Google Photo" data, whereas real (not deleted) photos and videos were only 4 GByte and I had moved those 4Gbyte to the SD card. To be on the save side before hitting "delete" of the 6.5 GByte, I removed the SD card beforehand. But now, when trying to restart, Android is stuck in the booting/start sequence. (I still can enter the pin, then the normal boot/start screen appears, but that only disappears shortly each 5 to 10 seconds. Stuck there.) **Question: Could I access in any way the "Rom" of the smartphone, so I could remove all or part of the 6.5 GByte occupied by "Google Photo", using for example adb?** I have Android 8.1 on the G5 and Win 10 on my computer.

I recently got a Motorola G5S Smartphone with Android 7.1.1 with Dual SIM. One SIM is work-related, the other private. Also, every App on my phone is either work-related or private. I'm searching for an app (or integrated function) which can do the following: - block all calls & messages coming into the work-SIM at night & on weekends - block notifications of the work-related apps at night & on weekends The tricky thing here is that I do want to use the mobile data from the work-SIM, so disabling it completely is not an option. I checked out Tasker but the description doesn't say anything about blocking calls coming in to one of the numbers/SIMs. On the other hand, the "Do not disturb"-option also cannot to block only calls to one SIM (at least on my phone ). Is there any other app or even built-in feature that I'm missing? Rooting the device would not be a problem, I guess.

TWRP is fine. I have lineage-15.1-20180415-UNOFFICIAL-cedric.zip in the Downloads folder on the 'phone. On attempting to flash this, TWRP fails with: "Updater process ended with ERROR: 255". Advice elsewhere suggested unzipping the package, then removing the first 2 lines of file at META_INF>Com>Google>Android>UpdaterScript. These refer to the 'Cedric' device name - but I have no real idea what they mean..... I did this, but as I'm on a mac, could not follow the instructions relating to re-creating the archive as they were Windows specific ('Add to rar' was suggested). So I tried straight zip archiving. Attempting to flash the archive thus created, TWRP now fails with : "Invalid zip file format!". Would be grateful for advice on how to create the appropriate file format using a mac. I have an app called 'Keka', which offers as options 7z, Zip, Tar, Gzip, Bzip2. Are any of these appropriate? Thank you!

Since I got the new phone Google Calendar app on it had been abysmal at making notifications it is supposed to. Most of the time they just never happen or happen late at the wrong time. Sometimes opening the app triggers some overdue notification from an hour ago. As far as I can tell Calendar is the _only_ app that has any issue with notifications, all notifications from all other apps work perfectly. Is there anything I can try to do to knock some sense into it?

I'm trying to unlock the bootloader on my Moto G5, the adb commands works, but I can't find my device in the command prompt when it is in fastboot mode. I was following the instructions on this tutorial, but when running the adb device command to get my serial number, the PC can't find the device. I checked the USB cable and the connection between the device and the computer and everything is ok. To enter the fastboot mode I was using the adb reboot bootloadercommand on Windows. Moto G5 Plus (XT1686 - Boot-loader locked) running on Stock Android 8.1.0 with latest security patch(August 2018) disconnects from Wi-Fi network for no apparent reason. My device is right next to the Wi-Fi Router (Other devices have no issue with connection at the same location) , the Network strength is high. 10 seconds after getting disconnected from the network, it tries to connect back to the network and it works for another 2 minutes before getting disconnected from the network. This issue occurs randomly (Could not blame/pinpoint certain installed Apps). I booted into Safe mode to check if it happens because of a particular App on my phone. But the issue occurred on Safe mode. Also, I don't think the problem is my Wi-Fi Router(D-Link DIR-600M) because the issue occurs with WiFi Routers at my workplace, Friend's home as well. I tried every workaround mentioned in the forum here . - I have turned OFF Turn off WiFi Scanning - Forget Network, Add it back manually - Tunnel the network through VPN - I have factory reset several times hoping to fix the issue but to vain. - I have reset the Wi-Fi network, changed Router configuration from Auto Channel to a fixed Channel - I have changed the Router configuration - Security encryption method to WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK I have no clue as to what is the issue here, I'll be grateful for any Fix / workarounds / Creative solutions. Let me know if you need any more information.
