I dropped my Nexus 5 a week ago and the screen cracked diagonally 8cm from side to side.
Since then I am sure that the battery drains faster than before. Previously I was always happy at how much battery life was left during the day, based on my experience of Nexus One and Galaxy Nexus. Now I am always noticing how quickly it is going down.
I didn't measure battery usage before the damage so I can't prove my suspicion. The battery usage settings screen shows the screen as the highest battery user, as before. Again, I'm sure the recorded percentage of screen battery use is higher than previously, but I don't have figures from before the break.
So, could there be a reason for the screen to use the battery more when it is cracked in half?

I am in a bit of pickle right now.
It was quite rainy where I live, so when I took my phone (Huawei Y6 Elite Android 5.1) outside it fell in some water. It worked initially - I dried it and all.
Then, at the end of the day I powered it off.
I was trying to watch some YouTube, but then I couldn't power it on. I am 15 years old, and **my dad gave me the phone (which used to be his) so I just said I'm going to charge it to him so he wouldn't be suspicious.**
OK, so GOOD NEWS incoming.
Whenever I charge it, it shows up with the 'charging' screen.
I tried charging it for 1 hour and it wouldn't boot although it would show the charging screen.
Tried to put it in a bowl of rice for 1.6 days - took it out and still nothing.
I'm panicking right now as my dad would absolutely **kill** me if he finds out what I did to my phone, I need help ASAP.
Some of my ideas is to try to charge it for some more time and pray to G-d that it boots.
Another idea would be to tinker inside the components and dry them.
I need other ideas immediately. I am quite worried.
Thank you StackExchange - you have helped me with many issues at StackOverflow and I'm sure you can help a good friend out with this too.

I have a Huawei phone with Android installed. The LCD display cracked recently, and as the cracks have spread over whole display over few days, it's now totally uncontrollable.
The phone has a 4 way sort-of-joystick thingy, so when it's unlocked I can still use it. However, once the display turns off completely I cannot unlock it to use it.
Is there some key combination or a trick to unlock the phone without using the display? The phone is not password or key locked, it just requires to slide from left to right.
I have USB debugging enabled, but I have no idea how to use it. The phone is not rooted.
Also, I'm wondering how I'm going to save my phonebook and other stuff.
The device name is Huawei U8500.

My question: How significant is the lack/presence of "Gorilla Glass"? Are other covering glass types simply unbranded and not as well known, but similar in resistance to shocks/bending - or does "Gorilla Glass" really have a significant advantage?

I dropped my Samsung J2 Pro and damaged it this morning. Only part of screen responds to touch commands now. So it's almost certainly time for a new phone, but I'd like to get photos and SMS messages backed up first.
Photos were easy; I have uploaded all my photos to my computer via the USB. I'd like to do the same for my SMS text messages, but can't find them in the file system.
I downloaded the app "SMS Backup & Restore", but cannot run it because the "Get Started" button is near the bottom of the screen, and pressing it does not work (groan).
So is it possible to directly access my SMS messages via the USB port, without running a special app? Or is there some other app which makes them visible?

I'm considering replacing the screen myself, but before I buy the part, I'm wondering if there is any way to have confidence that the screen is the only problem.
Can I connect my phone to the computer via USB, and then run some kind of diagnostic software from the computer, to tell me exactly which parts are damaged besides the screen (if any)?

I believe it's either internal circuitry, internal memory or root system file damage but I thought it's best I ask here first.
I'm using a Sony Xperia M (nicki) C1905 android. I believe I've had this for just about a year now. This is the second one I've had, the one before lasted 2-3 years that took some heating up from gaming apps.
Few weeks ago. It started to fail with apps in the background. Mainly Google Play Store or Google Play Services kept prompting it's not responding. So I've ran the Xperia Companion Recovery which fixed it. Then it started to happen again repeatedly after a while after recovering it again.
Later I've flashed TWRP and LineageOS over the old Sony OS, hoping for it to solve the problem and to try it out since I thought it was going to stop working anyway. It runs miles better but usually every 1-2 days, it starts to lag, some random app fail and eventually force restarts into a hanged boot of the LineageOS logo.
I've had KingRoot app, which I've found out later was presumed Spyware, when I was trying to root the device to replace the original OS. But the app crashes occurred before that.
I've done full format of the partitions with TWRP and clean flashed LineageOS and GAPPS but it still occurs.
Is there anything I can do? I've tried diagnostic app but didn't seem to pick up any faults with it.
The occurrences are: device lag, repeative app crash and then OS fails to fully start up and hangs. It happens different order sometimes.

Now, I want to put it to good use by installing a new OS (e.g. Ubuntu and/or Android) and turning it into a server on my home network (the battery would act as a convenient UPS). However, since the screen is broken I can't access any menus and can't give it any input.
Is there a way to access this phone to perform a fresh OS install (e.g. via USB)?

My phone has suffered physical damage and it will no longer turn on. I have given it to a phone repair shop in the hope that the data is still alive in there and that it can be extracted using external means. Assuming I can get a copy of the internal storage of that phone into a thumb drive, one of the things I would like to recover from it is the WhatsApp chat history. The [standard procedure](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/74973/transfer-whatsapp-chat-history-to-new-device) , however, requires a working Android system on the old phone to work, and this might be a little too much of a stretch given the damage.
Is there a way to recover the chat history given these circumstances? Or is it lost to history due to WhatsApp's encryption mechanisms?

I don't want to end up buying a replacement display and then found out the problem is somewhere else.
The phone is JiaYu G3T (a Chinese brand), fell on a ground. I completely disassembled the the phone but I didn't find any damage anywhere, everything looks like new.
Pic 1. This should be black with a green logo, left part of the screen is darker than right
Pic 2. Again, half of the screen is darker, color problems at the bottom OR sometimes the same as the startup screen - grayscale-kind-of-inverted-colors display

My dad has a Samsung phone. He dropped it once long ago and there was a crack across the screen as shown in the image:
Now he is having difficulty using the phone. There is always a touch at one spot automatically, which is very annoying. To show you what I mean, I have enabled "Show touch" in "Developer Options".
I have uploaded a video on youtube [here](https://youtu.be/peNPFr019yA) showing how annoying it is.
Here are images showing the unwanted touch:
So how bad is the screen damaged? Do I need to replace the whole screen, as the guy at the repair shop said?

I heard about a story, where woman connected charger of other manufacturer and during phone call device blasted. I don't know if it is a rumor, or this is truth?
In the other hand, workmate says that solution is on a hardware level and devices detect voltage and solve this issue automatically.
Is it safe to charge with different manufacturer charger or not?

I wanted to use an app called TimeWise to have a timer ticking and showing how much time is left in a time-boxed task. However, I am not sure, if having the screen turned on like this (even with very **low brightness**) for **25 minutes** without changing its content other than the counter, cannot damage it. These 25 minutes can be repeated for 4-8 hours. It is likely, that I will change the content of the screen from time to time, so this might be helpful, but I am not sure. Does anyone know if my concern is pertinent, or it is no problem for this type of screen? The device I'm using is Nexus 7 2013 version. Thanks!
