I have a Samsung J3 2016 (without root, USB debugging not enabled and stock ROM if I remember correctly android 5.1.1.), I need my old WA for legal issues. I currently have the screen lock, but I don't remember the password.
I tried to access with ADB, but from recovery, I can only use ADB Sideload. I tried to install different versions of aromafm.zip from recovery, but J3 2016 gave me an error, so I abandoned this option too.
Any suggestions for me to recover user data?

I bought a second-hand Samsung Galaxy J3 (J330FN) last week. It arrived today, missing a power button (which I was not informed of beforehand) and not factory reset. The seller is trying to be helpful but has forgotten the PIN... naturally.
The phone does not offer power options from the notification shade, so I seem to have literally no way to power it off, or better still get it into fastboot mode in order to initiate a factory reset.
I have tried connecting it to my PC with the Samsung USB drivers installed but ADB cannot see the device in order to send commands to it, understandably since I cannot unlock it to enable developer options and USB debugging! Catch 22.
Anybody have a lifeline here (short of me asking for a refund)?

I have a Samsung j3 phone with 8g internal rom, 16g sd card and Android 5.1. It is in excellent condition.
Recently "storage is running out" errors started appearing, and even services stopped working because of this. There is nothing on the phone except the usual Google stuff (maps, googleplay etc).
Photos, videos, etc are of course stored on sd card.
I already disabled all samsung apps (bloatware).
I already configured apps to use sd card when possible (only a few apps offered this and even those store much of their data in internal storage).
Right now I can use the phone only if I empty the caches of applications and switch off networking. As soon as I enable networking, the caches start filling (googleplay, maps, etc) and in a few minutes storage run out.
Is it possible to make it usable with rooting and using a custom ROM? If yes, what ROM should I try?
"Usable" means to me:
- calling,
- texting,
- browser,
- photos,
- some kind of navigation (maps)

I am having a major problem with my Galaxy J3 (besides just being a J3 ^_^). The thing has been doing random reboots when in the middle of work, went to the bios screen a couple times, then started trying to install (an update?) which failed, then showed the android icon falling, syntax came up saying erasing, then started scrolling files and said "formatting".
In a panic, not knowing what that meant, I pulled out the battery and left it out a few minutes. When it was put back in it rebooted as normal but that was the last straw. Contacted Samsung and ordered a new phone. I've been successful with Smart Switch for the mains like contacts, photos etc. But Samsung neglected to clue me in that Smart Switch has to work for literally 2 days to move everything? Is this true?
Anyway, still need apps and "Memos" which had no visible backup and restore. All I can find is to manually share to Gmail which would take a LONG time since I have literally over 500 memos. Probably should have done it anyway because now the phone has gone to not powering on at all. I've had the battery tested and found it has some damage (over heating?) but the new battery isn't giving a charge.
At this point I could care less about the J3 phone (horrible thing) but I do need those memos for sure! Anyone know how to access them when the phone is apparently dead? Or where on the phone folders if connected to your laptop? Any recommended data recovery tools you can vouch for?
Don't mind paying a little for good results but of course free is always best if it does the job. Thanks for any advice!

I have just been given a very special type of a phone and I want to know what I can do with it. Let me explain my situation:
I just got a Medtronic pain pump installed via surgery and after I was given a Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge phone to control it. When they gave it to me, they just said it is to control the pump and nothing else could be done with it. Yeah I do not believe that.
I researched the phone and found that it is a Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge that runs Android 7.0. The phone looks like it is capable of everything a normal phone can do so I ordered it a case.
Medtronic has basically taken all the apps off the phone like internet browsing, Google Play Store, app to make phone calls, and a texting app. They then installed all of their apps like one to control the pain pump, a web browser the doctor can use in his office, and a user manual for the pump.
I connected it to my Wi-Fi already. What I want to know is, how do I put a web browser, the Google Play Store, and all the regular apps back on it?
I do not want to delete or mess up the pain pump controls but I want to try to use this phone like a regular phone and unlock its full potential.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime running Oreo 8.1 that is getting NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID on literally every website, regardless of browser. When I check the security certificates (Settings -> Security -> Other Security Settings -> View Security Settings) I see that every certificate is disabled and if I try to enable them they seems to disable again immediately.
I've tried multiple networks and applied all the updates I can with no luck. This is a friend's phone so I don't know if any apps have been installed recently or anything.
Hopefully someone can think of something I have not.

**TL;DR:** Some apps have a little data on the SD and I want to move it to internal in case the apps actually need it. My intent is to use the SD for something else. However, I can't figure out how to move the data to internal.
I have gone into Application Manager and there is a list of apps (it doesn't just list all apps) with data on the SD card. Most say 0.00B but a few say 32.00KB (and it is one or the other, there are no other sizes). I tap on them to access the available options and all I see is "move to SD". I can't find any option to move data in the opposite direction. All of the apps are mostly on internal storage and I am aware from reading other threads that apps can store data in both places at the same time. I have tried searching both on this site and via Google (and Bing). Unless I put quotes around my entire search, the engines find some way to coerce my question into the opposite of what I want. With the quotes, Google gave me two Reddit posts (that is all); neither of which had a solution as far as I can tell.
**Main Questions:** Is it possible to move the data apps have stored on the SD card to internal storage? If so, how do I do it?
**Side Questions:** Why are some apps included on the list but with 0.00B? Does that mean the app has an empty folder on the SD card? Or are there files and I am not supposed to see; so it tells me 0.00B? For the apps with 32.00KB, is that just some standard placeholder/empty file or is there a chance the data is actually needed by the apps?
----------
**Edit:**
In response to Irfan Latif…
I tried to read the whole post but I started getting lost at Android 3.1. You mention that changing protocols now means that the card isn't mounted on PCs. But I don't understand why the way the phone works would impact how a PC interacts with the card. I assume it has to do with the protocol changes but to me the protocols are nothing but names. I simply don't have that depth of knowledge regarding data storage and transmission. Since I can't follow this step, I can't follow anything beyond it either.
As for "Coming to your question:", the main takeaways I got was that you can't prevent apps from writing to SD and that some apps write there just to test availability. Neither directly answers my questions but I can see some potential implications. However, seeing as I am not an expert (else I would not be asking in the first place), I would appreciate it if you could either confirm or deny what I believe your implications are.
1. 0.00B indicates an empty directory likely created to test for external storage
2. 32.00KB could similarly be a dummy test file
Assuming I have correctly deduced what you are trying to imply by redirecting me to the other question, I now have these questions:
1. Is there a way to check or do I just have to assume the files are dummy files and hope removing them doesn't break anything?
2. Given that you cannot prevent apps from writing to external storage, does that mean it is impossible to remove an SD card without risking the loss of app data? Given that removable media is meant to be, I don't know, **removed**, that seems like a rather stupid design decision.
----------
**Edit 2:**
Thank you all for your patience. Your explanations have helped me learn the key terms to focus on and now I understand things better. Though I still don't fully understand everything in Irfan Latif's reply to the other question.
Based on your replies to the new questions, it looks like the short answer is "No". While I can understand how using a terminal would help clarify the location of the data, I don't see how it would help clarify the content of the data. The exception would be if Android has a dedicated test directory in which data is guaranteed to be non-essential. However, based on what I have read so far from your replies, other questions, and other sites, that is not the case.
You all seem pretty certain these files are just dummy test files. With the apparent lack of any definitive means to make this determination, I guess I'll just have to assume you are right.
I am aware of the implications of using the SD card as adoptable storage. There are millions of articles about that. But even per Irfan Latif's reply to the other question, that was introduced with Android 6; I am talking Android 5. So thanks for the reminder but from what I can tell, the discussion of adopted vs. portable storage is completely irrelevant to my specific situation.
Lastly, just because there is doubt that the GUI would be showing what I claim, I am going to upload a screenshot (or a few) so you can see what I am seeing. I will post them after this edit since I am not typing this on my phone.

I am using a Samsung J3. I suddenly have problems with Google Play Services, with the message that unfortunately, it stopped. I took the following steps:
1. In apps, I forced stop, cleared cache and restarted but didn't work
2. Then I uninstalled Google Play Services with a view to reinstalling
3. I wasn't able to reinstall from the phone itself, so I turned on the option to install from other sources and installed it from the internet
4. However, it's not in my list of apps now, even though I think it was installed.
So basically when I try to open Google Play Store, no reaction. When I try to open Play Music, YouTube, Gmail, maps etc, I get the message to update, but pressing on update just brings me back to main screen.
Any ideas?

So I signed her out of her Google account, which fixed the email problem but created a new one. Now the phone is spawning messages that her phone is not being backed up (presumably because she is now signed out of her Google account). She does not like those messages either.
What is the best solution to this problem? I.e. stop the emails without disabling other phone features. Thanks.

A friend and I own the Samsung J3 model phone. Both phones shared this exact problem within a day or two.
The issue was the phone could not call or text. Neither incoming nor outgoing attempts were successful. The kicker was the internet still worked without WiFi. Any outgoing call failed saying there wasn't service.
The problem was resolved by manually switching a setting in 'mobile networks'. Taking it off the network and putting it back on after a few minutes.
I'm wondering why this would happen to both phones in short time, and why changing that setting solved it. Maybe the phone had an update that causes a glitch in that area?
Any ideas are welcomed.
Edit: wanted to also add the LTE data was on and operating with no Wi-Fi being used.

I'm new to smartphones and this is my first phone . I'm trying to sent external SD card as internal storage. Issue is that phone has only 8GB of ROM and by default 3.2 is System and 3.5 is Used space. So there is just a tiny space left on the internal memory. Android version is 5.1.1. I have rooted it with TWRP 3.0.2-0 and SuperSU. SD card is Kingstone SDca3/32GBn0557-004A00LF.
I have been reading a lot of tuturials to make external memory internal with no luck. I have tried adb tools, formating it with Mini Tool Partition Wizard-DroidThunder, a2sd, Link2SD, etc... I'm also OK with installing custom ROMs that will enable me to make internal memory of my SD card.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks xD.
