I had a tablet (Alcatel U3A_7_WIFI running Android Go) working alright. In order to root it, first I made (what I thought was) a full backup with mtkclient : python mtk.py rl ./backup After the rooting went wrong, I tried to flash a stock ROM (with SP Flash tool). Found many variants for that model and they all work perfectly while doing black and white output. But as soon as colors are involved I get this stripe pattern (and bluish colors): phone screen with striped colors The battery indicator shown when charging, has the same color problem, so I think it has to be something happening at a very early stage. Does anybody know how to solve it? Or what could be wrong? I tried flashing individual partitions with mtkclient from the backup I had (no way to flash the whole thing back, as far as I know). But half of the time this bricks the tablet (just BROM mode) and the other half nothing changes. Colors are still the same, bluish and striped.

If I correctly understand Google's overly-complex privacy UI, people can disable the storing of their interactions with the "traditional" Google Assistant. Google will reportedly be phasing out Google Assistant during 2025 and is replacing it with Google Gemini Assistant. According to this Google support page , it appears that there is no way to prevent Google from storing (and reading) everything you say to their "improved" assistant: > **Even when Gemini Apps Activity is off**, your conversations will be saved with your account for up to 72 hours to allow Google to provide the service and process any feedback. This activity won’t appear in your Gemini Apps Activity. Google says all your conversations with their Gemini Assistant will be saved "with your account", but I'm not seeing them disclose ***where exactly*** all your conversations will be saved. Nor does Google mention any way to manually delete sensitive conversations or accidental recordings that Google makes when it mistakenly thinks people are talking to their AI bot. Am I interpreting Google's words and actions correctly? **Is Google's new Gemini Assistant much less private than the product it is replacing, given that Gemini Assistant *always* saves every conversation you have with it for up to 72 hours?**

Is Android 13 auto-disabling pseudo-uninstalling some of my games? I just installed Rainbow 6, and it didn't ask to uninstall apps to free space... I had these games working well: PUBG and Call of Duty (played it last week). Now both are grayed out on adw2launcher, I can't even open info about the game from adw2, but I can open Play Store from it. At Play Store it says the app is not installed! At appmgr3, I can see Call of Duty there, but it has no icon. Opening the info for it, it doesn't show the game name, shows just the app technical name: androidx.multidex.multidexapplication And says it is using 8.6 GB of external storage, but I can't find the files there. How can the system have app info for an app that should be installed, but it is detected as not installed? Ahhh, it is confusing... What is going on? I didn't uninstall them.... Could it be some virus? It happened to about 8 games... Ahhh... :( Any clue? Any idea? Have you seen this mess before? I didn't drop my phone on the floor... I think I will go back to pc if I can't trust Android not failing weirdly like that :( Dude, I'm lost! This makes no sense! This should be Call of Duty info: this should be Call of Duty info But clicking the storage button does nothing. Clicking the open app button, nothing happens... What is happening??? My phone got hacked??? 😭 😭 It seems to be breaking apps that are on external storage! Even if the sdcard is working well!!! Just moved GoT Kingsroad back to internal storage. It actually just moved back the app as the data is never moved to external, that is why I had to uninstall Diablo Immortal thats was using 20GB+.

I am trying to convert a non-JP Google Pixel 4a into a JP Google Pixel 4a by changing the model numbers. After flashing the latest stock firmware (Android 13) sourced from [the official website](https://developers.google.com/android/images) , I installed [Magisk v29.0](https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/tag/v29.0) and rooted my Pixel by following [this guide](https://thedroidwin.com/root-android-magisk) . [Rooting using Magisk] 0. Enable Developer Settings 1. Enable USB Debugging 2. Enable OEM Unlocking 3. Unlock Bootloader
fastboot flashing unlock
4. Extract boot.img
unzip sunfish-tq3a.230805.001.s2.zip
cd sunfish-tq3a.230805.001.s2

7. Install patched_boot using Magisk Now that my phone is rooted, I accessed protected system files to overwrite using [this article](https://thedroidwin.com/how-to-enable-osaifu-keitai-in-non-japanese-pixel-devices) . 1. Enable root access
adb shell

(Tap 'ok' on Pixel screen) 2. Extract devinfo.img
dd if=/dev/block/by-name/devinfo of=/sdcard/devinfo.img
3. Copy devinfo to PC
cp /run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=***/'Internal shared storage'/devinfo.img ./devinfo.img
4. Open the file using the hex editor
ghex devinfo.img
I am supposed to find my phone's model number and replace it with the Japanese version's, but all I see is 16 bytes corresponding to "ANDROID-BOOT!..." That's literally the only thing in the file. Is this method not universal for all Pixels? What went wrong?

Since .apk is a regular executable file, I was more than sure that I will be able to trick mobile Gmail in the same way as I was able to trick PC version of Gmail years ago to force it to send a PC executable (.exe) which it prevented as well. Turned out, I was wrong. Usually changing file extension to .dat or some other or compressing it with password (encrypting file) was enough for PC version of Gmail. However, for mobile version, everything that I have ready at a hand and tried failed as well: - sending as plain file (obviously), - changing .apk extension to .dat or some other, - compressing with ZIP with no password, - compressing with ZIP (ultra compression) and encrypting archive with a password, - compressing with 7ZIP (ultra compression) and encrypting archive with a password, - using an [7 years old idea](https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/35818/are-password-protected-zip-files-secure#comment55859_35818) of double compression: - compress .apk file into .zip file without password, - compress resulting .zip file again into another .zip file with password / encryption. If mobile Gmail is able to detect that I am sending .apk executable file even in 7zip compressed file with password (or it can prevent me from sending such file for any other reasons) do I have any option left? Is there any way to send .apk file over mobile Gmail (attach them to message composed in mobile Gmail)?

For the most part, I haven't had too many problems with the stock Email app on my Moto Droid. I have both ActiveSync (Exchange) and POP3 accounts set up and never have trouble with ActiveSync. But for some reason, with the POP3 account, sometimes the app gets into this endless loop and won't stop downloading the exact same message and showing it as unread. I'll open the message, delete it, and then next time the app checks for new e-mail, the message is back again as if I'd never opened it in the first place. Usually the problem seems to go away if I either - delete the message from the message list without opening it, or - delete it from within the message and then immediately hit "Load more messages". But neither of these methods work *all* the time; sometimes the message still comes back! I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows why it happens (I assume it's got to be some connectivity issue - I do know that the Email app flakes out a lot due to 3G/WiFi switching, but that's hardly a complete explanation), and if there's any fool proof way to either ensure the message is deleted "for good" or to prevent the problem from ever happening in the first place. Unfortunately I've never been able to reliably reproduce the issue - it seems to be random or at least intermittent. Any ideas?

My daughter has changed her lock screen password. Didn't write it down. And had forgotten it. And so her phone is locked. What I observe is: * After restart, she's been asked a code. I can't find anyway to reset that code. * Her phone is connected to the web. I can see today's date on the Family Link page for her account. * I cannot find a way to switch from user on her phone (i.e. logging with my own account) * Stopping and Restarting the device is not possible. The phone remains on that lock screen. Only a hard-shutdown is possible (Volume up/Volume down/Power during a few seconds). * The phone doesn't ring when I ask it to ring from the Family Link page. I tried various ways to connect to the phone : * The procedures with *Find My Device* don't work, because : * When I connect to Google with my own account, I cannot switch to her account, and hence don't see her phone as candidate phone to work on. * When I connect with her account, she has no rights to use that application. * The Family Link page provides a 6-digits code that changes every hour supposedly providing access to the phone. It doesn't. The phone keeps saying invalid password. * The Family Link page lets define a new lock screen password. Defining a new password doesn't help despite a hard restart of the phone. What are my options now ? A hard reset of the phone is acceptable. But even that I don't succeed to do. ---- PS: The phone is a Samsung A03

On a ULEFONE NOTE15 running Android 12, fully up to date, and am trying to get the QR code reader to launch from Google Messages on the phone in order to pair with Google Messages on a desktop computer. I installed the Gamma Play QR code reader to scan the QR code for Google Messages and confirmed that, indeed, I am currently using Google Messages. However, there's no option within the setting for Google Messages as expected in order to pair the phone's Google Messages with the website for desktop access. Scanning the QR code from the website with Gamma Play simply launches a browser on the phone, saying to select device pairing from Google Messages. There's no such option available from the phone version of Google Messages for some reason. version messages.android_20250 708_01_RC00.phone.go.dynamic Shows in app info. How can I pair this phone with a desktop for SMS?

I've found a few SMS apps that can do it, but I'm hoping for something general, across all notifications. Upon further testing, it seems that my phone (Moto G, Android version 5.1) doesn't vibrate during a call by default. But sometimes, it messes up and allows the notification vibration to go through.

In the days before Android, buried deep in the network settings of my old phone were two options called Preferred Networks and Forbidden Networks was an option called Preferred Networks, and I have also heard of Forbidden Networks. These were used for roaming: when the home network was not available, the phone would not simply grab the first available network but compare the list of currently available networks to the Preferred & Forbidden Networks: it would never try to roam into a forbidden network, and if one of the visible networks was on the Preferred Networks list, it would try that network first. The lists were stored on the SIM. Note that this has nothing to do with APNs or network types – this setting is entirely about network operators. Does Android still use these lists? If so, is there a way to view/edit these lists on Android?

In Android 16, how does one get Google Assistant to recognize and call locally stored (non-synced) contacts? When trying to use Google Assistant to make calls by saying *"Hey Google... Call \"*, it always responds with *"Sorry who do you want to call?"*, and then pops up a pane that states *"Pick a contact"* that, when tapped, just opens the Contacts app. The pane also shows *"Call \"*, where *\* is the correctly spelled contact name, indicating that the problem is not a voice recognition issue. What's been tried: - Fully updated everything (apps, Google Play Services, Android). - Reluctantly enabled many permissions for the Google app, including: Call logs, Contacts, Microphone, Notifications, and Phone. - Within **Settings > Apps > Assistant > General**, enabled: Google Assistant, and set the Preferred input to Voice. - Within **Settings > Apps > Assistant > Personal Results**, enabled: Personal Results, Lock screen personal results, and Personal suggestions on lock screen before you ask. Please note that I also tried making calls using Google's AI Gemini Assistant, but it always says that it is still being developed and cannot currently make phone calls. This question is related to, but different from, this old question: [How do I navigate to a contacts address using my voice?]( https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/92859/how-do-i-navigate-to-a-contacts-address-using-my-voice)

I've started listening to music on **Spotify** with the sleep timer as I go to sleep. However, I normally have **Do Not Disturb** enabled when I sleep, and Do Not Disturb blocks all media because I have the "Media sounds" setting setting to not be able to interrupt. I don't want to enabled this setting because I don't want things like text messages to ding during the night. I see there is a way to allow notifications from specific apps through Do Not Disturb, but is there a way to allow audio from specific apps? Specifically, I'd like Spotify to be able to play when I have Do Not Disturb up, and nothing else. I'm running Android 13.
