My Pixel 8 seems to be stuck thinking that an external monitor is still connected, despite having disconnected it hours ago.
My friend let me connect my Pixel 8 to his portable monitor via USB-C to try it out. That worked fine and then I disconnected it. But now, hours later, I still see the external display icon in the top bar and I see "External Display" listed as "on" under "Other devices" in Settings > Connected devices.
Beyond this, there are other oddities: I get no sound from my phone when I play videos (because it's trying to play sound on the phantom display?). When I take screenshots, I get two at a time (one of the phone screen, one of the phantom display?).
As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell the phone that it's disconnected. Tapping on "External Display" takes me to a screen that lets me change the rotation on the external display and shows its resolution, but there's no control to disconnect. Long pressing, swiping, etc on "External Display" do nothing. I don't see any way to make the phone realize the display is not connected.
I've tried a few other things to try to fix it:
- Connecting my phone to my PC with a different USB-C cable
- Connecting to a monitor of my own with USB-C to DisplayPort (although, the phone doesn't recognize this monitor)
- Plugging a USB-C cable in to the phone with nothing on the other end
- Unplugging the USB-C cable
- Turning airplane mode on and off
- Locking/unlocking
I haven't tried restarting yet, because it seems crazy that my phone is stuck thinking it's got a display attached when there is literally nothing connected.

I wanted to give Firefox for Android a try (I'm a long-time Chrome user), but after installing it from the Play Store, I discovered it refuses to load any website, always showing this security warning that cannot be ignored:
This happens on all sites and only on Firefox for Android, the same sites load correctly in Chrome and also load correctly in Firefox running on a Windows computer that is on the same network as my Android device.
Any clues as to why this is happening? I'm running Firefox 105.1.0 on Android 12.

I've been looking into this and reading articles for the last hour or so, and haven't come up with anything. The simple version of what I'm trying to do, is when my kids are grounded or at school that I'd like to turn their smartphones into a dumb phone. They need to be able to call my wife or myself in case of emergency, call specific contacts if we're not available, but not chat with all their friends. If someone can point me in the right direction for where these controls are located I'd very much appreciate it.
The 'Phone' app is not listed in FamilyLink under the apps I'm able to 'always allow' and there's no way I can see for me to limit calls to specific numbers. I'm totally open to third-party apps if there's a paid solution to this out there.

I have an extra phone, i.e., Samsung SGH-i997, at home. A while back, I installed **Clockwork Recovery** and installed CyanogenMod ROM on it. Then somehow, out of stupidity or accident, it went back into recovery mode, and everything on the phone was wiped. It even deleted Clockwork Recovery, and I guess that even the factory firmware isn't there anymore.
Now every time I turn on the phone, it automatically goes to the default recovery mode with 4 options
- reboot system now
- apply update from SD card
- wipe data factory reset
- wipe cache partition
I have tried switching it to **download mode** and connecting it with my laptop, but the drivers are not recognized. I also tried installing kies, which I thought would help with the driver issue, but it didn't. I guess there isn't any firmware inside that the driver would connect to.
Now the only way left to somehow copy something to the phone is via an SD card. I tried copying several different Android firmware and mods to the SD card, but I think the default recovery mode doesn't use the external SD card but the phone's internal SD storage, which i why everybody is using Clockwork Recovery instead of default.
I am really tired of searching for a solution to this issue. If anyone out there has done something similar or can somehow show me how to go into the shell, I might be able to find my way. Thanks in advance.

I am sensitive to wifi/network radiation emissions, so I want to connect the first phone via wifi or 3G network to the internet, and have internet access through a long usb cable, from my second phone, set on airplane mode.
I have a Galaxy S2 HD LTE SHV-120S Android version 4.0, rooted and stable
The second phone I have yet to purchase.
Are there apps to enable this? Drivers?

I’ve got my hands on a pair of Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 which I’d like to repair/renew, but their batteries are sadly bloated, and I’ve been unable to find replacements.
The 3,7V 5,9Wh batteries are labelled as EB-LIDTIBA, but I’ve been unable to find any information about them.
What’s more, their dimensions (60 mm × 44 mm × 4 mm) are smaller and do not correspond to the standard EB-B600 battery.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the elusive *ED-LIDTIBA* battery on top of the commonly-mentioned *EB-B600B* battery.

My elderly neighbor held onto her Motorola Moto E (2nd Gen) for years till it recently stopped responding all of a sudden to her touches. It still charges fine and the display exhibits no issues, but the touchscreen is totally unresponsive despite repeated reboots. I'm guessing the touch digitizer is dead? Anyway, I've convinced her it's pointless to waste money repairing it and to simply get a new device.
Since there weren't too many apps in use (most apparently stopped working over time on what must've been either Lollipop or Marshmallow), those aren't the issue here. What is required is to extract the bare minimum but very important data from the phone like **pictures, videos, contacts and messages (SMSes)**, and finally import everything into a new Android phone.
So my question is, is any of this even possible with a completely unresponsive touchscreen? And if so, how?

**Problem**
I want to install Android in a VM to restore a backup using Titanium Backup. For this to work, I need Android to be rooted.
**What I tried**
I've tried to install Android-x86 4.3 in a Virtualbox VM. The installation seems to work. I made an 8GB partition disk (sda1), made it bootable, and installed Android in it from an ISO file. This all seems to work. Android starts, I can browse the internet, install apps, etc. Then I want to restart the VM, and guess what?! I go back to the installation screen, like starting up from the ISO live image.
For normal stuff, I can make a snapshot, start that up, and do anything. My problem is that I need root permission to restore a Titanium Backup in that VM. And I cannot root this VM because the disk is not writeable. With Alt-F1, I become root and I can use a script to root Android. But my guess is that I'm still on the ISO and that is not writeable.
**Update - another try with Android 4.2**
As mentioned in the comments, 4.3 would have problems with root access. I tried 4.4, which didn't start at all. Then I tried 4.2, which has the same problem as 4.3 for me. I made a screenshot of what I see when I try to run the rootscript , which is described here .
You can see the errors: **rm failed - Read only filesystem**
How can I fix this?
**My question**
How can I install Android permanently on this VM, so it can reboot and then be rooted?

There is a .xapk file in APKPure and here is the corresponding app on Play Store .
I can install it using Play Store. But other approaches of installing this app fail (SAI_v4.5 and other installers), and about 20MB (the size of the .xapk file) is lost after installation failure.
I got the error
> INSTALL_FAILED_ABORTED: User rejected permissions
when installing split APKs (.xapk) on my Oppo Reno4 SE 5G running Android 12.
# example commands to install split apks
pm install-create
pm install-write 18911812 base.apk /data/local/tmp/base.apk
pm install-write 18911812 split_1.apk /data/local/tmp/split_1.apk
pm install-write 18911812 split_1.apk /data/local/tmp/split_1.apk
pm install-commit
I tried to install it using ADB, and although

pm install-commit
returns with a Success
message, the app is not fully installed. When using ADB, "Verify app over USB" is turned off.
I noticed this error when installing split APKs using a custom app installer from storage. But now I found this error also occurs when installing a normal .apk file (I didn't notice this because I am using Android's default package installer). However, .apk could be installed successfully (at least it seems like it).
How to solve this?

I just updated my OG Pixel 1 to Android 10. I normally use light mode (not dark mode), but my phone just hit the threshold to turn on battery saver mode, and now it has forced my phone into dark mode. I can't toggle this in settings while battery saver is on, and I don't see any settings in battery saver to prevent this force theme change. I find it incomprehensible that this wouldn't be an option, given that there are plenty of phones (like the OG Pixel) that still use LCD screens, and thus whose screen colors don't affect the battery usage.
Are there any settings, hidden or otherwise, that prevent dark mode from activating during battery saver on Android 10?

I have followed the instructions carefully and repeated several times. I initially tried things on linux with adb and heimdall, however heimdall was failing to flash, so I returned back to the exact Windows instructions using Odin3 v3.13.1. When I try to flash twrp-3.4.0-0-jackpotlte.img.tar into my Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) aka SM-A530F, Odin fails consistently with this log:

I believe my phone is not RMM locked because I see Developer Options in my settings. I tried the process with OEM unlocking enabled and disabled in my phone Dev Options. No success yet.
I googled the issue for a few hours, however people mostly report seeing RQT_CLOSE when phone is RMM locked, which I believe is not my case. Maybe this is related to the recent Android update I installed yesterday.

All of my background apps get killed when I turn off the screen.
This is particularly annoying for my most-used messaging app, **WhatsApp**.
I've looked at the obvious "**Battery Optimization**" option:
Based on advice found elsewhere, I've checked that the background process limit in **developer options** is the default (I've never changed this AFAIK):
And yet, it gets killed in the same manner as battery optimization would. If I look at running background processes:
**Before Poweroff**
When I then press the power button, and power it back on after < 10s, the list is the same. But if I wait longer than that:
**After Poweroff**
...whatsapp has disappeared.
This happens for all apps I install that have some sort of useful background feature - the Battery Optimization setting doesn't seem to do its job anymore.
What else can I try to diagnose this?
**NB0**: Android 7.0 on DOOGEE S60
**NB1**: This just started happening some time ago, i.e., it _did_ work propertly when I got the phone.
**NB2**: I know how to use

adb
**NB3**: I'm also fond of trying new apps and have ~400 apps installed. Ideally, I don't uninstall/disable _all_ of them 1-by-1 to see which one is the culprit...

I would like to know whether on an Android device it is possible to:
1. Log the date and time of every time a password is entered on my Android phone (this security measure would mean that if someone in my home sees me enter a password without me noticing it, and then uses it to log into my phone, I would then be able to see whether this happened or not to take care of my suspicion).
2. As an extra step, I would like to log all activity once the login screen is bypassed as well (for instance the date an time and application name for each time an application is opened. This is because, while my phone is password protected, once I make the screen go blank by pressing the hardware button on the right, some time goes by until a password is required: I have things set up this way so that I don't have to enter the password just so often). So, is there a way to log all user activity when the lock screen has been bypassed as well?
The device I have is a Samsung Galaxy SIII Neo running Android KitKat 4.4.2.
The device has been rooted.
Thanks!!!
