How can the microphone work for speakerphone calls but not regular calls?

Phone call: Audio works only with speakerphone or wired headset

The following issue with my Sony Xperia ZR (running CM 11-20141112-SNAPSHOT) started a few days ago: * When I initiate or receive an ordinary phone call, I can't hear the other side through my earpiece and the other side can't hear me either. * When I plug in the wired headset, I can use that without problems. * When I activate the speakerphone button during the call (without the headset plugged in), I can communicate with the other side. * I also have a "click" sound effect for locking and unlocking the phone and this sound effect is now also only audible through the headset. Here is what I tried: 1. First of course, I checked my profile and volume settings to make sure they are on Default and the in-call volume turned up. 2. I re-started my phone multiple times, sometimes with, sometimes without the headset being plugged in. 3. I thought that the headphone jack might be broken, i.e. that it thinks the headset is always plugged in - especially since I use the headset a lot for listening to audio while walking. **But** as soon as I plug in the headset, the Apollo audio player app starts, suggesting that the headphone detection works fine. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to see if the software thinks that the headset is connected or not - is there a headset icon or similar I could enable? 4. So I thought it might be a software issue. 1. I installed the [Sound Manager](https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=sound+manager&fdid=com.roozen.SoundManagerv2) app which allows to adjust all volume settings and 2. found that it behaved a bit strange when I touched the In-Call Volume slider, causing a sound blip coming out of my earpiece. Also the volume "overlay" (or whatever you call that window that pops up when pressing the volume rocker) became visible, but sometimes only its icon, not the slider itself. 3. After adjusting the volumes through that app, I could make a test call without headset and without the speakerphone enabled which worked fine. Also the phone (un-)locking sounds were working again. 4. **However** a couple of hours later, when I unlocked my phone again, I didn't hear the click and doing a test call I realised that the problem had re-appeared. 5. So I went back to the Sound Manager and adjusted the sliders once more, this time no strange effects as in 4.2 before. And no click when locking/unlocking and no audio through the earpiece & mic during my next test call. Short of completely re-setting my phone (which I'd like to avoid), is there another way of debugging this issue? Does CM have a way to tell the headset detection status? Any other things I could try?

Android 10: How can I switch to external loudspeakers during a call (the screen is black and locked and nothing happens if I plug the loudspeakers)?

I have a Motorola "moto e" phone running Android 10. Unlike in the case of my old Windows Phone when, during a call, it was enough to plug the 3.5 mm jack with 3 contacts of my external loudspeakers into that phone and the sound switched immediately to the loudspeakers, in the situation of this "moto e" the loudspeakers receive no sound if their jack is plugged during a call. I guess that, while talking with somebody, when the screen is black and locked, I can activate somehow the screen of the "moto e" and, by setting something, direct the sound to the external wired loudspeakers or to a Bluetooth wireless speaker. **How can I reactivate the screen and do the above mentioned settings?** (In most cases, the screen of the phone has to go black and be disabled by the proximity sensors because in 80% of the time I use the phone with its internal speaker.) I have purchased a pair of **headphones** which are cheap and **too loud**. Now when listening to **media**, there's ways to reduce their amplitude, and I've **used ViPER** and liked it's performance more than the built in AudioFX (which is now frozen through Lucky Patcher). *I should mention that I've never needed audio balancers for apps, because those sounds can go quite low as required.* However, **ViPER does nothing to the in call volume**, the real thing I have a problem with. Maybe because *calls are not processed as "multimedia sounds" and hence are not linked to "audio processing drivers"(?)* All calls through the headphones are too loud to listen to. Is there a way I could **route audio from calls** (and also any audio treated as call sounds, like that in Google Meet) **to multimedia(?) drivers?** I'm guessing that'd come at the cost of *laggy performance on a 2GB RAM device*. Can I toggle some other **on call volume options instead**? Maybe through code? I am a root user (obviously) and may be willing to use Terminal if it doesn't get too complex. Thanks in advance.

I'm kind of new in Android and I realized that all the sounds are going out through the speaker regardless if the headphones are connected. If they are the sound also goes out through the headphones, but I'd also like to avoid the speaker when headphones connected. Is that possible? Few more information that may help: - My phone is a Samsung Galaxy i5510 - Its Android 2.2 Froyo - I've installed Tasker, maybe there is some way to make a profile to achieve what I want. Thanks, Diego **Update** As it wasn't to clear I'll clarify for each sound (if i forget any please let me know): - Phone calls: Speaker and headphones. - Notifications: Speaker and headphones. - Games and almost every app: Only headphones. (I wrote "almost every app" because, for example, Skype or Camera sounds in both speaker and headphones). - Keyboard and "touch clicks": Headphones. Summarizing the problem are: phone calls, notifications and some "random" apps.

**My speakerphone isn't working correctly..** Whenever I switch to speaker phone in a call /video call the other person cannot hear me. The other person can hear me only when I am calling via either headphones or non-speakerphone mode.I recently installed/flashed the stock firmware (android 8.0) onto my samsung galaxy SM-G930F to try and fix the issue (to no avail unfortunately). I previously had Lineage OS 16.0 Herolte (on which speaker phone worked perfectly) installed but on that ROM Roaming did not work so that's why I decided to install a different ROM. Currently installed ROM is android 8.0 stock firmware downloaded from this link: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s7/firmware/SM-G930F/PHN/download/G930FXXS8ETC3/327932/ I thought installing original firmware would fix the issue but unfortunately not.. Am I doing something wrong? **Notes:** - The microphone is working perfectly (when tested using voice recorder) - the issue is definitely with the samsung s7 phone not with the phone of the person of the other side of the line (this issue occurs regardless of who is being called from the s7) - I have tested it with many apps (phone app, whatsapp, discord, skype, hangouts), all give the same issue **I have tried:** - rebooted many times - I cleaned the speaker ports and microphone port (all are clean now) - flash original firmware (android 8.0)(currently installed OS) - starting phone in safe mode - wiping system cache - plugging in/out a headphone into the headphone jack many times - unplugging headphone connector on Motherboard (made no difference) - I checked the contacts on the speaker assembly (which connect to the MB), they look clean and in pristine condition **To summarize:** When I am in a call (regardless of what app I am using) it works fine as long as my phone (s7) is not in speaker-phone mode (in this case the other person can hear me and all works as it should), as soon as I switch to speaker phone mode I can still hear the other person but the other person cannot hear me anymore. I downloaded the firmware from Sammobile.com as suggested by quite a few tutorial videos. I downloaded the version for the correct country (the Netherlands), for correct phone model (SM-G930F); here is a link to the page I downloaded the firmware from: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s7/firmware/SM-G930F/PHN/download/G930FXXS8ETC3/327932/ I flashed using ODIN V3.14.4 as suggested on the download page, all appeared to have gone well, ODIN gave no errors and said "passed" when it was done flashing.. I downloaded the version "Netherlands (PHN)" I have tried all the 'fixes' I could find so far on the internet but nothing has worked yet, i need some help. Any suggestions on what I could try/test to make it work again would be very much appreciated! Thank you so much!

Samsung S7 speaker phone not working (at all)

My Samsung s7 (SM-G930F) works for making calls on 'normal' (non speaker phone) mode in all apps. but whenever i switch to speaker phone (regardless of the app i am using) the other side (the person I'm calling) can't hear me anymore. As soon as I switch to non-speaker-phone mode the other side can hear me again. It also doesn't work in video calls (the other side can't hear me when video calling). Note: voice recorder also works just fine.. Note2: with headphones installed (via headphone jack) it also works (other side can hear me just fine) I've tried the following: - reset to factory settings - clean microphone/speaker port+holes - checked microphone connector (if it was properly installed, it is) - cleared cache partition in android recovery menu (no change) - tried it in safe mode (problem persists) - and countless other 'fixes' which unfortunately did not work for me... I have a custom ROM installed (I tried to find something as close to the stock ROM as possible). I previously had Lineage OS 16.0 Herolte installed but on that ROM Roaming did not work so that's why I decided to install a different ROM. Currently installed ROM I am not 100% sure of, will check tonight. I believe I followed this video tutorial so I should have the android 8.0 ROM installed from sammobile.com: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvPL6hskf6w . On the current ROM Roaming does work. I believe the current ROM causes the issue since speaker phone was working on lineage OS previously. Are there any other fixes/tests I could try to determine/fix the issue? Any recommendations on where to find/download stock Android 8.0 ROM for the SM-G930F? Thank you!

Samsung S7 speaker phone not working + echo in call

Phone: Samsung S7 SM-G930F Problems: 1) Person I am calling or that is calling me hears delayed playback of their own voice 2) When speakerphone is activated a very loud noise is heard from the other caller's speaker making it impossible for them to hear me speaking When I'm in a call (cellular service) and I activate speaker phone the other person can't hear me (I can hear the other person perfectly fine when on speaker phone). When I call (via regular cellular service) the people I call often report 'hearing an echo' in other words 'hearing themselves talk' , I have already changed providers which did not help. The 'echo' is always there from beginning till the end of the call from what I've heard. I have a Samsung s7 SM-G930F. Previously had android 8.0 installed (which was the OS that came with the phone originally. I recently installed a different ROM (Lineage OS 16) but this had no effect on the speaker phone problems. I tried starting the phone in safe mode as suggested in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6qcYwyTl-w But this didn't have any effect on the problem (same 'echo' still there). Suggesting it might be a hardware problem (assuming what's being said in the video is correct) The following post suggests another possible cause: "Apparently there is some kind of rubber band around the microphone that keeps the sound in the same place" (source: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S-Phones/S7-Other-side-hear-echo-on-phone-call/m-p/119530#M7152) . I think this might also explain the 2nd problem (loud noise on other caller's side when speaker phone is activated). Does this seam probable to you? Voice recordings work fine. The 'echo' doesn't appear to be present for all people, I'm told it has approx 1.5 seconds delay (the other caller hears their voice back with approx 1.5seconds delay). When I start a call in whatsapp and talk to the other person they say they have no echo and can hear me just fine, if I activate speaker phone I can hear them properly but they say they have the echo again and there is a lot of background noise coming from their phone (sounds like 'some sort of electrical interference'), the 'echo' gets played back louder on their phone when I activate speaker phone, so loud that they cannot hear me talk. When I turn speaker phone off on whatsapp and continue talking the other caller says the echo persists for some time (maybe 8 seconds) after which they hear a 'tick' sound and the echo disappears (also the 'electrical interference' background noise disappears immediately as soon as I turn the speaker phone off). It happens regardless of how many 'bars' of connection I have. Could it be a broken microphone? Could it be an issue with my antenna/connection? What tests could I perform to track down the cause of the issue. i have tried with and without the case (I thought the case might have a negative effect since the s7's speaker and mic are right next to each other) Would love to hear your input Thank you very much for any suggestions!

Every 24-48 hours my Moto G Play / Android 6.0.1 gets wako meaning: - (most often) During call I can't hear the other person and other person can't hear me, - (rare) Notification sounds are played very quietly (nearly silently) even though sounds volume is set to maximum and other tones (i.e. ringtones) are played correctly. Things that I'm sure: - restarting phone _always_ solves above problems, - if phone gets wako, problem always narrows to speaker / microphone; all other functionalities (SMS messaging, emails, Internet browsing, playing games, using apps) works normally, - these situations happens only on my phone; my wife has exactly the same model with exactly the same Android version and nearly exactly the same applications set and hasn't noticed this behavior so far. Things that I'm uncertain: - if I'm not mistaken described problems occurs only if phone isn't used very often -- i.e. if there was 6-8+ hours since last call made or received; if I'm calling often, phone doesn't get wako. How can I check or what can I do to check, if this is software (Android), network (LTE operator) or hardware (Lenovo) problem? What tests or operations should I perform? I could say (given that wife's phone has absolutely no problems) that this is certainly hardware problem. But then, restarting phone always solves problem, so this would indicate Android / software problem.

My Motorola 2nd Generation(XT1068) mobile running Lollipop 5.0.1 version is facing problems after removing headphone. While I can talk using the headphones' mic and the phone mic has no problems and the other person can hear what I speaking. But I could not hear the other person's voice from the earpiece or when loud speaker mode is on. If I press the loudspeaker, the icon loudspeaker is shown at the notification bar but I cant hear a thing. So everytime I need to use the headset to hear the other person's voice and its annoying. I cleared the cache and data of the Dialer app but din't help. The only temporary solution that works is to restart the phone. After restarting the phone, the earpiece works fine and I am able to talk and hear properly. But again if I insert and remove the headset to listen to music the earpiece stop working and I couldn't hear the other persons voice on a phone call. I have also tried inserting alternative headsets. I've also tried removing the headsets slowly that din't help either. I thought the phone was still in the headset mode but if I play song or video from Gallery/Media player or Google Play music or through File Manager apps the two speakers in the front work fine. And If I remove the headset the songs playing in the Play music pauses which means there is no problem in the headset and jack. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Could this be a hardware or a software issue? **Update 1:** Troubleshoooting methods suggested by Motorola Support: 1. Clearing Cache, Data of Dialer and Phone apps. 2. Wipe Cache Partition on recovery mode. However both of the above didn't solve my problem. So they suggested me to do a factory reset which I don't want to do since factory resetting will erase all my data. **Update 2:** There was also another problem which gave me "Unable to play this file" in the Play Music app while playing a song. If I open the Dialer app when a song in playing in background(in Play Music/other music player apps) the song stops on it own and wont play and the Play button won't work until I change to next track or sometimes I need to restart the Music player app.

I have no problem otherwise in the hearing on speaker as I am able to listen to music etc. I tried reformatting my phone and it solved the problem temporarily, but the problem reoccurred within a few days. My phone is only a month old, and is fully updated to Android 4.2.2. Is there a permanent solution to this?

I've searched and found several posts on various sites with this same problem but nobody offering a solution. I use my N1 in a car mount with music playing through my stereo with a 3.5 mm cable. When I make or receive a call, I have 2 options. I can either hear the other person through the car speakers clearly, but they can't hear me. The other option is to turn on speakerphone and they can hear me clearly but they are piped through the phone's speaker on the back which is tinny and hard to hear in the car. The obvious solution seems to be to use the headphone jack as the output for the call audio but with the input treated the same as when speakerphone is on, but I can't find a setting or an app to achieve this.

I like to have it up high if I'm using speaker-phone mode and less deafening when I'm holding the handset to my ear. This causes some problems when I use a different mode from the previous call. Is there any way that I can have a separate volume level for the two modes of operation?
